General / Weather taking turn for the worse
« on: 21 November 2015, 08:03:57 pm »
We've now had snow at the top of Snakes Pass- traditionally the 1st place in England to receive snow each year, It's currently closed due to ice.
I reckon we're going to have frost then eventually ice on the ground fairly soon. Is it worth still commuting or should I grease her up and stick her under tarpaulin for the next 3 months? Either way, I suppose I'll have to fork out for a monthly rail card at some point.

FZS600 Fazer / Oil Filters
« on: 15 November 2015, 09:58:09 am »It's time to change the oil, what's the verdict on pattern oil filters- are they any good?
I'd a bad experience with a stuck filter on a Kawasaki once and had to give it the screwdriver treatment. Yamaha filters, are a bit steep at almost £15 a pop! Are the Hiflo filters any good? You can pick them up for a fiver, and the K&N filters for around £10.
Anyone had any bad experiences with any of them?

I've purchased another quality product from LIdl, !
As you can see I've FOOLISHLY went for the large, on the plus side it makes it very easy to put on and take off!
I'm not one for buyer's remorse, it was only the princely sum of £8.99
I'm sure If need be I can find another use for it?

Can anyone recommend a decent multi tool? Something not too bulky or pricey, I don't have the original underseat toolkit, so it's got to be useful. As you can see I rarely leave the house with empty pockets!

« on: 10 August 2015, 08:41:24 pm »
My 4 yr old electric flymo lawnmower is on the fritz . . . Motor will start blade will spin, as soon as you put the motor under load i.e. push it forward it cuts out. Her indoors is giving me grief, calling on the domestic wisdom of all foccers as I haven't a clue. Anyone any ideas? Otherwise it's off to B&Q to fork out for a replacement this weekend

« on: 20 May 2015, 07:24:32 pm »
Phew!
Had to do an emergency stop on dual carriageway on commute home tonight
Probably doin 65 when I have to slam on the anchors . . . only to have the back end slide out to the right on me!
I'm going to hit the rear end of white van man side on, the rear wheel's locked and I'm panicking- came off the rear
brake, I think I did?!? Bike starts to fishtail, back on the brakes and I managed to stop about 2ft and at an angle of
45 degrees from the back of this transit. Limped home and changed underpants.
Thank god it was dry, anyway it's made me realise I don't know how to handle the bike in such situations, normally
I'm a 75 front 25 rear breaker, what should you do? Also, what would be the best reaction if it was wet conditions?

FZS600 Fazer / Replace radiator pipes
« on: 18 April 2015, 11:35:33 am »
I'm looking to upgrade the radiator pipes, getting a bit rusty after 15 yrs!
The plan is to bend some stainless steel tube to shape and tack on any mounting brackets required.
Does anyone have any experience of this? e.g. any pitfalls or probs to watch out for, new o rings?
Any advice is much appreciated . . . Will

Introduction / Howdy
« on: 28 March 2015, 04:06:46 pm »
Hi to all
Well I've gone and done it . . . bought myself a fzs600 in a return to biking after a 15 year break!
Convinced my better half to let me have it, foolishly though I'd save money on train fares by bike commuting.
Let me see- new front tyre, sprocket and chain set, rear Cush bearings, valve clearances, I'm sure there's a bit of
a rattle from the Camchain too . . .
I've got my work cut out, Amazon has assured me my Haynes manual in the post . . .
Oh yes, the old Akito leathers brought down from the attic don't seem to fit me anymore for some reason?!?
I'm not complaining, I'm as happy as a pig in sh1t3
PS this site is the mutz nutz!
