Forstly, welcome to the forum.

I assume you mean the Gen 1 (FZS1000) rather than the Gen2 FZ1000. There are a couple of the various Fazer groups on Faceache at the moment including the foc-u one. You should definitively be able to pick a good one up for that budget but the best ones are upwards of £2k still at the moment for an FZS1000. .

Introduction / Looking for a Fazer 1000
« Last post by SiC00ps on 23 May 2024, 06:14:46 pm »
Hi all,
I'm here for info and understanding about the Fazer thou.
Budget is about £1500 which I appreciate is the bottom end of the scale but that's all I have.
One near me has a blown head gasket. Seems surprising for such a reliable bike.
But all I've heard is they are awesome and I've never had one and I'm in the market for a bike!

I've px'd it for a Z750.

It was a fantastic bike for 3 years and 6000 miles and happily spent a lot of time at 12,000 rpm.

SA02 L** you will be missed.

The throttle on the FZS1000 is quite sensetive, and one the common issues that will make that issue wors is if the drive chain is too slack and/or the cush drive rubbers behind the rear sprocket carrier are worn.

Regarding your suspension, have to checked and set the static sag and then adjusted the damping to suit..?

Welp Harris in Hertford are shutting down, so I had to email PDQ instead, waiting for the email with the parts and prices.

Definitely more of a knock or clatter than a rattle.
Sounds like its coming from the front sprocket cover.
When you touch that area, you can feel the knock.

Does it in drive and when stationary.

I was gonna say check the sprocket, sprocket nut and chain, for wear. May even just be the rear wheel alignment out too?
But when you mention "stationary" do you mean completely still, or with the bike on the centre stand, bike in gear and the rear wheel moving?
Stationary as in bike not moving, bike in neutral.

If it does it in stationary mode then your best bet is to video the sound and let us hear it, for a quicker solution.

What is your idle speed set to?
Idle speed set to 1500rpm. Once the engine is hot it tends to idle at around 1800rpm

idle speed once warm shoulf be about 1250
What are the consequences of this to a carb'd engine? Running rich?

These particular bikes do run rich as standard anyway.
How long have you had the bike? (whatever it is, you need to put the year and model under your name to give us more info)
And do you know the history of the bike, in this example when was the air filter last changed? Changing to a K&N air filter can balance the fuel mixture a bit better by helping the engine breathe more.
