General / Here's a thing for you
« on: 06 January 2014, 06:58:36 pm »
How come im out on my bike in the cold and total strangers come up to me and say "oh I bet you're cold" and then in the summer total strangers come up to me and say "oh I bet your hot" on both accounts NO and foc off. So how come they never say "oh I bet you are having a fantastic time out on your bike aren't you"

General / Everyone get paddling
« on: 03 January 2014, 09:04:01 pm »
Ok Great Britain is not sinking under all this water but it is starting to float, now if we all paddle I think we could haul this island 700 miles or so south somewhere off the coast of Spain.

General / Dedicated "off" thread
« on: 31 December 2013, 12:25:31 pm »
From reading members "offs", would it be a good idea to have a dedicated mishap/off/crash thread.I think everyone can learn something from reading of others mishaps and can use the flowing posts that will appear to improve their own riding.
Simple things like, apart from any speed/condition issues perhaps people could learn that if they see any bits of crash debris on the entrance to a corner there may well be some in your path on the bend.
Another one I read. Travelling along duel carageway - all moving looks behind- all clear makes the manoeuvre to the right lane (I think the very same time as finishing the look behind) and in that time the right hand lane had banged on the anchors resulting in rider going in the back of the last car in the right hand lane.
So apart from reading the road ahead a little better I would take from that you need to make sure that you also re-look ahead. The two examples are what I hope I always do and are just quick examples to give the idea but the point is we can all learn things from other focers offs so having a dedicate "off" thread would be a learning tool for us all.

General / A tip for sun in your eyes
« on: 17 December 2013, 03:10:25 pm »
Having just got back in from a ride out with the low sun in my eyes I remembered what I used to do when I was out everyday. Get some black insulating tape and cover the bottom 1 inch of your visor do it as a straight line so it tapers off at the edges of the visor left and right, when shut you don't loose any visibility as no doubt your helmet has some sort of rubber upstanding in the middle anyway. But when you are at a junction and the sun is in your eyes lift the visor and the tape then acts like a peak on a cap and shades your eyes. Lift the visor up or down to suit.  Obviously only useful whilst stationary or slow moving

FZS600 Fazer / Where do me flaps go
« on: 17 November 2013, 07:51:19 pm »
Those rubber flaps that come down from under the petrol tank, do they sit forward of the cam tops or slip down the back towards the spark plugs. And what are they for.

FZS600 Fazer / Changing my coolant - any tips
« on: 10 November 2013, 10:44:33 pm »
So looks like I will be doing this on Tuesday and while I am under the tank I will replacing the air filter which I already have - Yam OEM. Any last pointers/words of wisdom /dos/don'ts/don't forget/make sure that etc. I will first be using Holts speed flush and then will be replacing with Halfords OAT Ready Mixed Antifreeze 2 Litres Haynes says 1.95L needed so hopefully this will do the job. Do I need a new washer on the drain bolt

General / The extra bits on insurance--worth it?
« on: 05 November 2013, 02:49:04 pm »
Just got a quote with bennets and to add legal cover its  £29.99 - this is somthing that I have always had on my insurances anyway
I can also add
Helmet and Leathers for £48
Personel injury for £34.99 (biker personal accident cover)
And rac EU for £90
Meaning if I had all 4 items it would be an extra £202.98
BUT they do a package that if you have them all then its only an extra £55 total and as I am already paying the £29.99 legal cover I will only be paying a total extra £25.
But I dont need the RAC because I have AA cover with my car.

So am I stupid for even having to think about it and should be snapping there hand off
Or is none of the extras ever worth having any way

General / Help me choose new gloves
« on: 23 August 2013, 10:02:52 pm »
Ok had a search and cannot find anything on here but im in the market for some new summer gloves- no need for any waterproof. I have been looking into  Dainese full-metal gloves, alpinestars gp, and Knox handroid. Just been googling and stuff so far and I know my final decision will come from a real life fit test for each candidate. My hands are slim with long (ish ) fingers but not small hands. Any help and advice would be appreciated especially any crash tests.Willing to spend £150-£250[/font] Cheers all

FZS600 Fazer / Dont leave your key in the side - you will bend it
« on: 19 January 2012, 06:04:02 pm »
Ages ago I had the bike on the side stand and took of the seat. Then needed to put on the center stand, and as the bike went back on to it, the key was still in the side and went past my leg and bent

FZS600 Fazer / Turns over but wont fire up fzs 600 (98)
« on: 17 January 2012, 08:30:56 pm »
Was a member of the old forum now this. To save any questions --History first Had the bike 11 years - never seen rain or wet with me, damp cloth at worse. I replaced with braided hoses and done the light mod about 5 years ago. Don't ride much, bought with 5k on the clock and now still only on 15k. Always ridden in the winter so long as dry.(rather do this that just stand and warm it up.) I keep it in a anal clean condition in a garage Never had a starting problem -in fact almost starts as my thumb just gets near the button, as if to say "come on come on ---lets go" Never replaced the battery or spark plugs or air filter as aint broke -didn't fixit. PROBLEM Last time I went out it was a little stubborn to start- I thought it may be because it had been a little longer this time since last started. Anyway started and off I went - stopped once or twice with no problems restarting. Today would not start, ignition all as normal, lights ect with the pump clicking away as normal turns over as normal but would not fire up, took out spark plugs and saw no obvious problems cleaned them a bit and put back and tried some more, now battery almost flat.           1st thing I am going to do is get a battery charger I will post another thread for help on that one. Then a set of spark plugs Any other ideas
