A hundred miles will pass in no time and is nothing on a modern machine.  Make sure your tyre pressures and fluid levels are OK if you don't do these on a regular basis.  Other than that just enjoy the ride.

Its raining slightly in West Mids today but although forecast not wonderful for weekend-shouldnt be too bad. No ones mentioned watch out for dopey cagers on M5. :eek  I usually ride with lights on. Plan where to stop for a stretch/break every hour or so so you dont get too stiff/sore/tired. Ear plugs?-help reduce tiredness-car tyres very noisy @ motorway speeds. Ride safe! :lol

Hello DDT,

It really depends on what roads you intend to take mate .. you can do the whole trip on motorways .. or enjoy some really nice old roads if you pull off and run parallel.   Look at a good map and make the trip an adventure .. not a battle .. it should be fun .. if nothing else  :)   Start as early as you can, crack of dawn is a good time to knock the first 100 miles off.   Have the Bike all ready the night before, Bed Early. Up, Shower, Coffee and Roll it out.

Don't rush, set yourself a relaxed realistic time to cover the .. what will it be lets say 300/350 miles .. that really is easy enough in a day on a modern bike .. even in the wet .. it might be as long as ten hours with lots of stops .. but what's the rush .. if you start early you will arrive in daylight.

You Really do need to Stop and have a proper walk about and Drink a small Bottle of Water at least 4 times on the way down, don't eat much, no big meals or junk food .. maybe just a Mars Bar or some fruit  :b   Stop well before you need fuel, well before means exactly that.  That way you will stay calm throughout and not get yourself into panic mode about running dry on a strange road .. not knowing how far away the next pump is etc.

The trick is to maintain a steady average speed while riding within the legal limits .. not to get electronically 'pulled' for speeding or doing other silly things!

Don't let passing 'Birmingham' frighten you .. you will not be going anywhere near the city centre .. it's only roads.
Plan your route, just take it easy and Read the Signs.  Put the Place Names in large letters on masking tape stuck on the tank top .. so you can confirm your route .. easily as you ride.

Above all enjoy yourself  :lol    Stay Safe Polar Bear (A Brummy in Spain)

Long trip - check the weather before you go (I got caught out in snow in Scotland the other week!). Packing waterproofs is probably a good idea, as is being sufficiently warm).

Take a road map with you, and check your proposed route beforehand (inc food / fuel stops), and make sure you know where you can get fuel (a spare gallon is a good idea), and as obvious as it may sound, make sure you've got the means to get fuel (I use cash so I don't get caught out by "we don't take those cards" or "our card payment system is offline"). Banging down a motorway is not the time to find out you've run short of fuel or money.

Make sure you're sufficiently rested and be aware how quickly tiredness / fatigue can kick in.

Try and get all your stuff (spare clothes and any other items you're taking) organised the night before - you don't want to go down the road having forgotten something because you're rushing at the last minute. Try and keep important items in a waterproof place.

Take extra care on unfamiliar roads - not just speed, but surface conditions (try and travel during the day for that reason, although there will be less traffic at night).

If you're using motorways, be aware of crosswinds (esp perhaps on bridges which are exposed on all sides) and watch out for middle-lane hoggers running side-by-side with wagons due to indecisive overtaking (be aware or traffic in your blind spot for the same reason). I try to keep 2 lanes away from wagons on motorways so as not to get pulled towards them by turbulence (and avoid spray in the wet).

Check your bike over before you go, and take some tools and basic spares with you (bulbs, fuses, possibly spark plugs / tyre plugger kit if you have space), or at least have some form of breakdown recovery (whether AA / RAC or a mate / relation).

If you're staying at your sisters, give her an estimated time of arrival, and send a text periodically on your progress (eg if you stop for food / fuel / cig break and give your location and updated arrival time if you start running late with bad weather for example).

Enjoy the run.

Yep both of the above

Not sure which part of Devon but my lad and I went there when it was really hot and ran the A39 from Bridgewater across the coast love the twisty hilly road once you get past the 50 limits beyond Bridgewater and traffic

So many good roads there - enjoy them at a speed you are happy with dont try and keep up with passing bikes

Just had a look at your Profile page Mate .. sems like you are based in South Kirkby ...
so ... Honiton is probally less than 250 miles away  :)  via the ugly road route  :\

One other point if I may .. Don't use the M6 Toll Road as you get close to Birmingham .. slow right down and read the signs (read them twice!) .. get into the correct lane.   The toll is a 'Rip Off' and going that way will save you next nothing in time  :( .

Stay Safe  ;)   Polar Bear
