Brilliant! An enjoyable 10 minutes viewing.
I'm sure the Fazer will be faster if I play music like that when working on it!

Don't let the fact that a well known evil witch  :evil came from Granthem put you off, she is far away from there now.
Hope that helps calm you down  :) .

General / Re: Recommend a decent Sat Nav?
« on: 07 January 2012, 08:26:24 pm »
This is how I mounted a cheap car type sat nav to my Mk1 FZS600 with a simple home made bracket from the mirror mounting studs. Although I do have the Mk2 mirrors on with slightly longer studs.

I can't hear the sound but I tend only to use it for navigating minor roads in unfamiliar places, where a quick glance saves having to stop and check out the map. The fairing shields it from light rain, but if it is really wet I stick it in the tank bag out of the way.
I'm not recommending this particular sat nav, which I got from Aldi, as although it has major roads of Europe in it, on a trip into Europe I found it sadly lacking.

Time to get this show on the road, so here is my self portrait sporting my Scottish anti-midge apparel and complimented with a Nessy hat.

I just fitted one and theres no mounting for the stock guard.  You'll have to fit an aftermarket radiator guard or take the risk without it.

The 1998-2001 models didn't have a guard fitted as standard (as far as I know). Maybe this is why there were no mountings on your radiator.

Even with a fender extender water gets sprayed up from the front wheel all over the engine and in really wet conditions also under the tank. I fitted this shield mainly to stop road grit shot blasting the exhaust pipes and engine but it also prevents direct spray from the wheel up to the electrics. The graphics are optional!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Split inlet rubbers
« on: 31 December 2011, 07:43:00 pm »
If they are only showing hairline splits they are in pretty good condition and you have nothing to worry about. They are quite thick and don't often leak, even with what looks like fairly substantial splits in them.
As for the heat affecting the rubber solution I don't think it would be a problem as things don't get all that hot on the inlet side.

I used the tunnel for the first time this year and for the extra cost (if you book in advance) I would definitely use it again.
Even the minimum for camping with some degree of comfort and Independence will add considerable weight and bulk to the load. I tolerate it because I prefer camping, with the option of B & B if the weather is unkind. You just have to ride accordingly, but on my 600 it's so much nicer when you've made a base and can ride without it all. Bear in mind you will be doing a lot of miles getting to your base and you want to enjoy it. How anyone manages two up with camping gear I don't know.
If you do decide to camp I would make sure you know in advance where camp sites are in the areas you plan to stop at on the route you are taking. They are not all that common in some non touristy parts and you don't want to be looking for somewhere in the dark.
You will soon get used to riding on the right but have to be especially carefull at roundabouts and junctions when there seems to be traffic from all directions to confuse you.

This should be a picture of my trusty 600 loaded up with far too much gear somewhere in France, must cut back next time.

Fitted one on a FZS600 a couple of years ago and everything fitted as it should with no problems. Still going strong. Cost me £99 then I seem to remember.

Would these fit my 1998 model ? Im sick of admiring my elbows at 70 mph.

Yes. I seem to remember (but could be wrong!) that the 6mm mounting studs are slightly longer on the 02-03 mirrors. If they are longer it's not enough to cause the domed nuts from the 88-01 model to bottom out.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Fuel pump query
« on: 20 December 2011, 08:48:23 pm »
Strictly speaking it is an oscillating reaction as the internals rattle backwards and forwards. On the 600 it is supported in a tight fitting rubber mount that clips onto a bracket and held with a single bolt. The fuel pipes also provide some support I guess. I would suggest that you incorporate some degree of rubber mounting for the pump rather than a solid mounting. You could maybe use the rubber mount from a 600, but it may not be the neatest setup in your case.
I agree with solorider in that I would be very surprised if you had any problem with fuel delivery rate with the 600 pump.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Fuel pump query
« on: 19 December 2011, 05:32:03 pm »
Yes the pump on the FZS600 stops pumping when the float bowls are full. It is controlled by a set of points that are opened and closed by the movement of a spring loaded diaphragm that is doing the pumping. When the fuel pressure is sufficient it overcomes the spring pressure and the points don't close, which in turn stops the diagram being pulled back. The clicking of the pump then stops until some fuel is used.
An important point is the polarity of the two wires. If you get it the wrong way round you will instantly blow a diode in the pump. The blue and black wire is the positive feed from the relay and the black wire is the negative earth wire. May be the same on the 1000 but I don't know.
No idea why there are different finishes or if the fuel flow from the smaller 600 pump is sufficient for a 1000 Fazer at full chat.

Merry Christmas.

Welcome to the site. I see your going up in gradual stages, cb125 to fzs1000  :eek . Take it easy and maybe let any snow and ice clear before going out on it again. Dead easy to put pictures up. For instructions direct your mouse to "Help" near top of page and click on "Basic" and there you will find it. It's above the "Intuduction" part of the forum where newcomers sometimes introduce themselves  ;) .

Welcome to the site.
I think Deefer666 on this site used to do these decals in all the different styles and colours. Probably still does? You could send him a message (PM) by clicking on "members" near the top of this page and finding him there, or leave a message for him in the messages section of the forum. Good luck.

« on: 13 December 2011, 04:43:30 pm »
If you have a battery connected to a charger and then you connect a 12v light to the battery at the same time...it's o.k isn't it? (only like what happens in your car/bike?) As for it drawing more power than the battery charger is putting in...that will be down to the charging pattern of the charger wont it?

These might seem like odd questions but just bare with me.  8)

It depends on the type of battery charger I guess but basically I can't see a problem with that. The voltage at the bulb will be a bit higher than just the battery on its own, but as you say no different to what the light gets on a car or motor bike. If you use a fancy battery charger that monitors the state of the battery I'm thinking it will indicate a duff battery. This is because the bulb will be drawing current and making it seem like the battery is discharging itself.

I'm no expert but I'll give an opinion anyway and maybe get corrected.
The  60w from 12v would be drawing approx 5amps. (Not 5ah, as in ampere hours, if that's what you meant).
If you linked the two 12v batteries together in series you would have the equivalent of a 24v battery as you say. However as I see it the draw from each battery would be 450ma. (I'm in disagreement with rustyrider here).
Only if you linked two matched batteries in parallel would you divide the current between them. In this case it would still be 12 volts so each still taking 450ma.
You could just run the light off one 12v battery and at 900ma you would have a good number of hours between charges with a normal leasure battery.
