FZS600 Fazer / New vibration problem
« on: 02 April 2017, 08:49:40 pm »
Hi All,
I have a problem with vibrations between  4k and 5900 rpm...yes that accurate  :eek

Any ideas what is wrong ? It was runnng fine until recently and I haven't changed or done anything to it. Vibrations are coming through the bars, footrests and frame / tank. The bike has no fairing and the indicators are non-standard and the carbs were balanced recently. The bar end weights are on and to improve the footrests I bolted on some steel bits at the ends...I thought that if it works with handlebars it was worth a try. Seems strange that at 5900 rpm and above it is like someone is switching off the vibes so that there are no vibrations at all.

Any ideas where to look?

FZS600 Fazer / Front brake problem
« on: 19 February 2017, 06:11:13 pm »
When slowing down to give way etc, I notice that my front brakes judder quite badly when the speed gets down to approximately walking speed. Any speed above this they are fine. The pads and discs look okay. I was planning on de glazing the pads.

Any thoughts anyone ?

FZS600 Fazer / Coolant overheating warning light
« on: 20 December 2016, 12:05:03 pm »
Hi All,

I've read on one of the online owner's manuals that the coolant overheating warning light should come on for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on. Mine does not come on at all. The fuel and oil level warning lights do. The coolant level is fine and the bike runs okay.

Any ideas where I should start looking ? ...or should it only come on when the engine is overheating !! It's just that I've noticed the engine has a strange smell recently...without I've been running through cow excrement or something similar  :eek

FZS600 Fazer / Vibration issue
« on: 16 September 2016, 07:31:58 am »
I've just balanced my carbs in order to cure vibrations in the footrests and seat. The carbs needed minor adjustment but this hasn't improved the vibration problem.

The vibrations are only felt over about 3500 rpm, under this it is more or less vibe free. Also during acceleration there are no vibrations throughout the rev range. The large washer has already been fitted behind the exhaust mounting bolt and I've put a soft rubber washer underneath the front tank bolt which has stopped tank vibes.

I used the two jam jars with fluid method to balance the carbs and this was done with the engine at tickover speed. However, whenever the throttle was blipped, to ensure an accurate balance, the fluid levels in the jars changed quickly. Does this mean that at higher revs the carbs are out of balance ? Or is something else wrong, causing the vibes at higher revs ?

Your thoughts would be appreciated :)

FZS600 Fazer / Carb balancing tools..
« on: 12 September 2016, 10:04:41 pm »
On previous i4 bikes I've successfully used a DIY balancing tool consisting of two jam jars containing light coloured oil with plastic tubing etc.

Will my Fazer balance okay with this set-up or will I have to fork out for a proper tool !!

FZS600 Fazer / Simple DIY 6th gear position indicator
« on: 11 August 2016, 01:28:21 pm »
I know there are various gear position indicators available on the market but I am on a very tight budget and I'm fed up of trying to find seventh gear.

So, is it possible to make a simple DIY  top gear indicator ? Something that just produces +12v in top gear , i.e.  from an adapted neutral switch, to illuminate a bulb on the dash ? I remember seeing a fully operational homemade gear position indicator done a long while ago on a website which I can no longer find, but that involved complicated electronics  :eek

Has anyone ever done anything like this ?

FZS600 Fazer / Noise at low revs
« on: 11 August 2016, 10:12:07 am »
How low in the rev range should a Fazer accelerate from while still running smooth ?

I notice that with my recently acquired bike that when I try to accelerate from approximately 1500 rpm there is a clanking /clattering noise from the engine and power delivery is very rough through the drivetrain with vibes through the bike. When this happens I just drop a gear to increase engine speed and then it's smooth all the way up the rev range. The bike has only done 15k miles but has no service history. It's like the sound of changing gear in an old large agricultural or industrial machine which doesn't have synchros !! It feels like the flywheel is too light to keep the engine running smoothly at very low revs.

I know modern machines like to rev, so maybe it's my fault, but other bikes have had have been a (little bit) smoother at very low revs. I haven't checked anything on the bike as yet.

Any thoughts ?

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted FZS 600 Exhaust
« on: 31 July 2016, 12:44:33 pm »
I'm after an exhaust for a FZS 600 project. Condition unimportant, can be dented, scraped, rusty or needing a little repair etc as long as this is reflected in the asking price and the item is useable.
Can collect if not too far from northern Lincolnshire.

Cheers.

FZS600 Fazer / Fuel tank compatibility
« on: 27 July 2016, 08:31:07 am »
I'm needing to change the fuel tank on my 2000 fzs600.

But which tank from other years actually fit ? With what modifications?

I'm not bothered about the tanks fuel capacity as long as it fits, the undertank pipework is adaptable and the fuel gauge works something like. I've searched for a list of compatible tanks but couldn't find one !!

Any ideas anyone ?

FZS600 Fazer / Exhaust options
« on: 20 July 2016, 09:47:39 pm »
I am looking at putting a stubby slip-on on my 2000 FZS600 but to be honest I don't know much about 4 stroke silencers :rolleyes

Could anyone recommend any particular makes or types that won't need the carbs rejetting ?

Noise or performance doesn't matter as long as it's quiet - ish. I assume I need a silencer and the pipe to connect it to the outlet pf my downpipes, but does the link pipe need to be specific for my bike ?

As usual, any help appreciated :)

FZS600 Fazer / How smooth should a Fazer run ?
« on: 16 July 2016, 01:50:03 pm »
I have a recently acquired 2000 model and I am new to the world of Fazers.

Due to bad experiences with vibrations on a previous bike I am now hypersensitive to vibration, so even my smooth running car gives me the feeling in my legs and arms that it is vibrating  :eek   It usually takes 20 minutes of riding or driving before the symptoms appear. My GP has just sent me for an MRI to rule out spinal nerve impingement problems.

I have searched and read about remedies for tank and exhaust vibes though I guess my bike would run fine for anyone else but to me it vibes (mainly in the pegs, with minor vibes in the handlebars) so just wondered what I should expect. I appreciate that inline fours are notorious for minor vibes anyway !!

Any thoughts appreciated  :)
