Title: Opinion on used fazer price
Post by: Raymy on 26 May 2015, 05:03:00 pm
Hallo folks

From a dealer, fz1, 2008,  very low mileage, 5 grand

http://www.rideonmotorcycles.co.uk/used-bike/yamaha-fz-1-fazer/ (http://www.rideonmotorcycles.co.uk/used-bike/yamaha-fz-1-fazer/)

I'm looking at a loan but to take advantage of a  low rate of interest, it has to be from a dealer that they can pay it straight to.
Is this a  reasonable price?  Albeit from a dealer.

It is indeed, and not without good reason, their service department is a bit off at times, but we're not exactly flush with quality used bikes in Glasgow dealers

Why not look at getting a personal loan out? Can go private or dealer then, and there wouldn't be any restrictions?

Personal is a good deal as well but via dealer is half that, both via credit union, just looking to see if this price is decent for that age of bike, I don't know shit about the fz1

Pictures always don't do justice but looks tidy with low miles....take it out on a credit card and proceed with some zero balance transfers til its paid off

I did as bigbluebear suggested; got myself a 0% Cash Transfer Credit Card (most Balance Transfer cars will do this, but read the fine print!) and just paid it off over time. Cost me an initial 3% on the money I transferred, but there was no interest for 27 months (via Virgin Money at the time) though I paid it off well before that period

My card limit is £250, doubtful I'd  get a card for anything near enough to buy a bike with.

£4650 from dealers £3800 private according to Parkers.

Thanks for that.

The credit card approach is also risky if something happens money wise during the 27 months

£4500-£5000 seems to be the going rate for most 07/08 FZ1's at the moment.
Personally I think the 5k is a bit steep for Glasgow though. The dealers up here tend to be a bit pricey tbh and I have often shopped further South for all my purchases over the last few years. I tend to extend my search up to 200 miles and usually find something.

I know that Dealers also struggle to shift FZ1's up here for some reason so there may be a deal to be had especially at that price.

I paid not far off that for a '10 plate 2 years ago and that was from a Glasgow Dealer (although there was a high degree of haggling involved  ;))

If I had to buy from there I would not be paying any more than £4400 and that would be top wack.

my 08 was £3500 private sale and with lots of mods but high mileage at 30k miles......but had been thrashed on track and I since found out lots of unsavoury bits since then.

tbh if I had my chance again I woulda left it and gladly paid an extra grand to get one like this.....albeit I would have probably ended up spending another grand on this one to make it little bit more sexy likes.

personally I still think it is a smidge over priced for the market, not saying it isn't worth it as they are 10k bikes new but just compared to what others are going for that's all.

id say if they'd sign you up to a decent credit and agree £4500 it'd be a go.

As it's been said by others, it's overpriced but you've got to expect a dealer's markup as they're in the business to make profit!

If you're a bit like me once you get your legover a new bike you've already sold it to yourself :rollin

I'd go in and talk turkey to them, see what are they prepared to offer to sweeten the deal- movement on price, free servicing, free helmet etc . . .

Just be prepared to walk away if you're not completely happy ;)

I think extending search are would be good, I don't mind travelling a bit for a good deal.

I bought my 09 plate on here just on 10K miles, absolutey mint condition. 18 months ago £4000 and the bike has never missed a beat from the day I had it.

Don't be afraid to travel the length of the Country to get the bike you want.

I have traveled over 400 miles to get bike I wanted and have walked away from a bike that I had traveled 250 miles to see because the owner was a asshole, whose definition of immaculate was totally different to mine :eek . The Fazer 1000 I have now I went with my son to Bournemouth from Cork to look at it.

I bought my Serow in Barnstaple in Devon and rode it the 350 miles home to Cork after buying it. :)

Just up the road from me. I know a few lads who buy from there and I generally go there for parts.

Are they to be trusted then?

It's  a lot of money, so want to make sure it would be a good un right enough. It's got some goodies, fairly low mileage, reasonable to insure (300ish), immaculate, and it's a fazer, and I've always had a soft spot for fazers.

I had a look at a couple of bikes there last year when I was looking for my FZ1 as I had my old ZRX1100  set up on their dyno a few years before and I was very happy with the work done.

I was looking to trade in my gen1 1000 but I could not get them to commit to a part exchange price, they just wanted me to sign up for a finance deal and I did not want finance. What they seemed to be saying was depending on which finance deal I went for affected the part exchange price!
Then again I know a few people who have bought bikes off them and never heard any of them complain about the bikes or service from them.

Raym, not sure what they've got atm but Alan Duffus are worth a look at through in Kirkcaldy.
They are a decent bunch, that's who I bought 'Bee from.

I wouldn't give Alistair the steam from my piss, attitude has been foccin' shite the last three times I enquired about a test ride and was looking to buy a bike, vowed that no matter how badly I needed a part he'd never get any more of my cash.

Your 20 yrs away hasn't changed much tbh :rolleyes
Only thing I would say is the best mechanics are actually in Ducati on Great Western Road, Craig and his team are spot on and have vast experience with all sorts of makes, I dealt with them when they were at BMW & MCS, big :thumbup from me :)
