have sintered pads eaten my front discs
« on: 26 June 2016, 08:58:34 pm »
Hi All,

Just replaced my front discs after 42k miles on as MY03 foxeye.

I may have had sintered pads fitted for the last 22k miles, definitely about 12k miles.

Back to my question, has the sintered pad eaten my disc's.

Have I sacrificed stopping power for increased disc wear.

Are there other pads I should be looking at.
I have just binned the SBS sintered pads and fitted BENDIX BEN-134-MF also sintered.

Being realistic though, can you get great stopping power with minimal disc wear.

Thoughs appreciated......

Yes, yes they have, however, they've also given you better braking performance over the softer organic pads.
I've always preached ferodo platinum pads, but like tyres it's an individuals preference!

Silly question but are your calipers functioning okay and in good condition?
Any sticking of the pistons will muller discs if the pistons aren't returning freely enough.
If you were to put the bike on centre stand, can you spin the wheel, use the front brake, then spin the wheel freely again?
I bet a lot of peoples bikes don't do that, and it will encourage disc wear much faster than normal.
More people are born because of alcohol than will ever die from it.

40k on a set of standard discs doesn't sound particularly bad to me - it's not far off what I've had on most of my bikes (my pads of choice are Brembo's red road pad and carbon lorraines sintered road pads)

Bought my Fazer new in 2001

And I've used sintered pads since I first changed them when the original ones wore out ..... God knows when ago.
Bikes now done 83,000 miles and the discs are o.k.
