Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Indicator oddity - FZ1S Fazer
« on: 19 June 2014, 12:46:12 pm »
Ta for your inputs chaps, everything still working fine this morning so haven't had a go at locating any dodgy wiring or connectors yet.

The bike's still new enough not have been hacked into, no heated grips or aftermarket alarm systems etc so I'm pretty confident I'm not going to find any rusty halfords bullet connectors under the seat.

I'll have a poke around tonight see if there's anything obvious amiss

Evening all, hope everyone's enjoying the warm weather  :)

Had a bit of an odd indicator moment this evening, half way through my ride notice no indicators, left, right, hazards all kaput although horn and high beam okay.

Did the usual wire wiggling etc to no avail, so carried on regardless just with a bit more caution :rolleyes

Anyway, got to my destination, switched off, fish chips peas, brew, natter, set off home, all working hunky dory again.

Haven't had the seat off to check fuses, relay, connections yet, and I don't particularly relish the idea of stripping the switch gear, but any of you lot had anything similar ?

Everything's standard and unfettled by the way - no fancy LEDs

Just noticed a few more details have been released including the identity of one of the guys who saddly lost his life  :(

Police have stated that two groups of three riders travelling in opposing directions were involved, obviously with catastrophic results.

No white lines evident in the pic of the Meriva so could speculate a group overtake gone bad with the oncoming riders taking evasive action into the path of the car........

Take care out there chaps and chapesses - it's not only us bikers that come out when the sun shines, I came across a hell of a lot of tractor drivers racing down country lanes, mobile in hand this weekend. :eek

In the event of an accident - assume the twat who knocked you off really is a twat who will lie through his back twatting teeth to wriggle out of a claim, get witnesses to his twatishness and take photos of any twatmobile he/she used to try to kill you.

Expect everyone who you deal with in the process of returning your twatted pride and joy back to the road to be lining their twatting pockets.

Ah bollocks to it - not one for long term planning but everyone's gotta eat an drink coffee right ...... :)

Would have been good to meet up again for another NoFo (No We Fo ??) blast, but unfortunately a week after picking my nice shiny new thou up, I was gently SMIDSIED filtering up a queue of traffic at 20mph going up to Blackpool airshow..... :'(

While Summer slips away, I'm sat waiting for the insurance mob to sort out the bust footpeg hanger, gear selector and dented tank - did you know they cost over a grand !!! luckily no damage to me thanks to proper gear.

If you end up at Glasson, have a weak coffee and dead fly slice for me ...................

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Is the s2 a quick bike?
« on: 18 August 2013, 10:48:27 pm »
Haha - you've just found out that all the bad press about the FZ6 and particularly the S2 is bollocks  :rollin upto 7k it's a perfectly well mannered easy to ride day to day commuter, but keep the throttle pinned and it becomes a nutter all the way up to as fast as your comfortable and probably a bit beyond.

Remember chasing a Ferrari up the M55 one afternoon and having to keep going when he pulled over, loved it .....

In fact, at the moment I think it might have been easier to ride quick than the FZ1S I've just traded up to ......

« on: 08 August 2013, 06:41:17 pm »
I fitted some of these on my 600 a couple of months ago and just used a good fitting ring spanner to tighten them up, as I don't have a small torque wrench - only a big un .... As long as you don't spend hours in the gym or struggle opening pickle jars, spanners tend to be the right length to apply a reasonable torque when tightening them to the point your not straining, just make sure you don't get them cross threaded and the mating faces and copper washers are clean first.

On the same subject, has anyone fitted a set to a second gen FZ1S (no ABS), the Goodridge and HEL sites refer to 2 line racing setup rather than the currently fitted 1 into 2 ......

Tre 'kin' mendous , hangin on and grinning like a loon, then realised there was another cog , off we go again ........................ May have figured out where all the rubber off my back tyre went :rolleyes , I'm guessing that the FZ6's 7000 mile tyre-life is a thing of the past....

Nipping back to the dealer Satd'y for them to have a look at the hot start issue etc

Cheers all

Still looks and sounds crackin', goes a bit quicker than the FZ6 too .............

Stuck a pic on members bikes rather than trying to figure out how to embed it here, dealer will be getting a call in the morning.

Cheers for your input chaps,

Got a mate with an R1 who recons he has to do the twist n prod all the time, but I'll pull the dealer on it in the morning. I would have thought the fueling and exhaust compatibility would have been sorted by Yamaha if they were using it as a demonstrator, but then again anything's possible

Picked the bike up on Saturday and obviously only noticed the hot start issue after sticking some fuel in, which might be a regular occurrence .......

Righty ho chaps ....

Following my indecision a couple of months ago re flogging my Harley and FZ6 S2 for a newer, shinier model with a bit of oomph, I took out a Fazer 8 quickly followed by an FZ1S. Despite the Fazer 8 being perfectly adequate and actually far more comfortable at Motorway ++ speeds, I was suckered into the FZ1s shiny blackness, downright muscle and the noise from the Akroprovic carbon can.

So I bought it ........ :)

HOWEVER,   the bikes a 2012 and cosmetically perfect but it's been on Yamahas books for the past year as their 'demonstrator', only done just shy of 900 miles but the rear tyre is down to its last mm of useable tread with obvious signs of abuse, backed up by the chamfered hero blobs. They've given it a service (Wigan Yamaha), but it's not happy with hot restarts, I'm having to roll on the throttle whilst pressing the starter although once running it holds idle.

Now realising that abuse during the running in period ain't exactly the best idea, is this a consequence of the Akpvc can, a symptom of future trouble (balance of Yam warranty with the bike), or is there a simple fix the dealer should be addressing.

Oh and it looks like someones had it away with the toolkit .........  :\

Rode it to Wigan Yamaha where they had both a Fazer 8 and an FZ1S to try.

If Yam had combined the thou lump with the Fazer 8 aerodynamics I'd have happily handed over both bikes and the requisite cash, however there's still that niggle...........

Fazer 8 looks more up to date, and the new version they've improved the suspension, the new fairing is incredibly stable at harumph speeds, and the increase in power over the FZ6, although not huge is noticeable and appreciated due to the way in which it's delivered.

HOWEVER

FZ1S it's 150BHP fer christ sake, and the one I'm looking at has an Akroprovik carbon pipe, so sounds the dogs, but at high speeds the fairing's on a par with my 6 hence buffet at significantly below the 8s harumph . But that acceleration, what a 'kin blast :eek

Kinda guess where I'm going to be spending me cash ..................On tyres, fuel and speeding tickets :lol

Cracking way of killing a few hours chaps,  ended up doing impromptu traffic management on the way back from Glasson dock.

Looked like some poor bugger on two wheels had had either hit or been clouted into the back of an A4 estate on the A585 Preston New Road, looked like he was kinda all right ish and being looked after, so seeing as the traffic was building up I jumped in and did my bit to try and alleviate the tailbacks till the boys and a particularly pretty girl in blue turned up.

Sorry but seriously, what is it about women in uniform ......................................... :\

Oh and for the the record I'm Ian, the big grey foccer in the photos with the Montser T and the black FZ6

Ha - No sentimental value, they're bikes not family heirlooms.

I only bought the Harley to try and get my (ex)other half out on hers, then found I actually quite liked it. I agree with the 600 being plenty fast enough for me, I enjoy a spirited ride but I'm no track day trickster, in fact that was another reason for the Harley rather than going down the R6 route.

The thou may just be too much of a temptation with circa 150 horses on tap rather than the FZ6's 97ish, but the 800 makes for 110 with some simple breathing mods and a new pipe, doesn't rev as high as the FZ6, but I've no idea how that translates to the 'riding experience', it looks a bit bulkier too, but again I've not checked the figures (bet it's still lighter than the Sportster).

Think I might just use my indecision to get out and try a few

Cheers for the reminder about Sunday, I'd spotted it a few weeks back but wasn't sure where I was going to be, turns out I'm here so might keep an eye on the weather forecast and have a run over. Any idea what time people might be turning up ?

General / Should they stay or should they go now......
« on: 14 May 2013, 09:29:40 pm »

So dropped into Chorley Yamaha on the way back from Rivington on Sunday (prior to getting soaked), and noticed a couple of shiny black n gold FZ8 Fazers sat in the corner, price reduced from £8K to £6300. So I'm now thinking about possibly trading in my weekend toy:

Plus my trusty S2

for a nice new shiny 8 plus a few tasty extras  :D , exhaust, brake lines, tail tidy, twin dipped lights mod, etc .... and maybe a Drift or Go-Pro

However, and there's always a however, I like the absolute contrast between the sensible (but Foccin fast) Fazer and the raw basic ridiculousness of the Harley, both bikes suit different moods , but I'm starting to feel the twin bike servicing hurt.

So what do you guys/gals think good idea, crap idea, FZ8 best thing since sliced bread, or is it pretty average and only reduced because there's a facelift coming, or is it worth looking at an FZ1S and waving my license goodnight. Obviously I haven't sorted out a test ride yet but it's gotta be a worth a play one weekend.

Cheers Ian

Not bad enough for anything that drastic to be honest - nearside is unmarked but offside has two or three chips taken out of it.

Paint actually looks similar to the stuff on the engine casings but I bet Yamaha don't do touch up pens :\

Anybody found anything to touch up the paint on their mirror arms, looks like the standard stuff might be susceptible to frozen bugs ?

It's not really matt or gloss, just need the odd chip tidying up.
