Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / OLD RECORD SMASHED !
« on: 03 May 2013, 07:02:49 pm »
Hello Foccer's, After a reasonably sedate commute to Acton the other day. I had managed to get just under 150 miles with quarter of a tank left. This got me thinking that I could get another 50 before my fuel light comes on and I know the bike is capable of 70 miles on reserve. Could this be a record coming up ?  Anyway, I kind of got a little bit distracted by the throttle and only achieved  185 miles before the unnecessary worrying fuel light came on. Still, I took it pretty easy from then on and managed a staggering 259.5 miles before it started to splutter.  I put in a measured 1/2 litre and rode 2 1/2 miles to the garage where it took 22 litres (much to the annoyance of everyone behind me :lol ). This was all done sporting a 45litre top box.  It's going to be interesting to see if this is still capable of this after it's been Ivanised.

General / Grooves on tyres
« on: 30 April 2013, 04:44:57 pm »
Hello Foccer's, after my recent bad experience with a set of PR 3's I have now noticed a grooved line right round the centre of both my new BT 023's. Does any one know what this is or what causes it  or if it's anything to worry about ?

General / Am I out of touch ?
« on: 25 April 2013, 04:51:10 pm »
Bought a grey belly pan and thought I'd get it painted metallic black to match the rear cowling. Took it to a body shop and he quoted £175  :eek . After I got my breath back we agreed on £120. I left it with him but as I was riding away I couldn't help thinking that was a lot of money. I know you get what you pay for and it's been a while since I've had any paintwork done. So what do you foccer's think ? Starting to think I should have waited for a black one. :\

General / Perishing tyres
« on: 06 April 2013, 04:37:08 pm »
Hello Foccer's, am after some opinions on my tyres. Bought last summer less than 10 months ago and covered about 4K. PR3's. I noticed today that the rear is starting to perish in the grooves. The front is fine and there is still plenty of tread on the back but it has started to develop cracks. This can't be right surely. Would this affect my MOT ? and  what do you think  my chances are of getting it replaced ?  Maybe there are some tyre experts on here who can tell me what would cause this. Thanks. ;)

General / Definition of irony
« on: 16 March 2013, 03:04:00 pm »
My concern for someone's safety ended up leaving them with a head injury and a face full of cs gas. :eek  Driving home from work the other morning at about 5 am I drove past a car which had crashed into a tree on a hairpin bend about 100 yds from my house. As I drove past I noticed that there was someone slumped over the wheel, wrapped up in a blanket. I stopped, reversed up to see if they were ok when I had a gut feeling not to intervene. When I got home I started to consider the possibility that they may have banged their head and gone to sleep, which isn't good. So, I called the non -emergency police no. and expressed my concern. They thanked me for my call and said they would send a squad car to check up on them. A little while later I heard some shouting so walked down the country lane to see what was going on. I was confronted by the site of two policemen wrestling with the occupant, covered in blood from a nasty head wound from the driver they had just gassed. One of the officers had also suffered from the effects of the gas. I asked if they were ok and wether they needed assistance. They seemed to have things under control but my presence gave the gassed policeman the opportunity to recover  by slumping over his bonnet with his head in his hands. As I stood there amongst this rather bizzare looking scene watching the pool of blood from the mans head getting larger, I couldn't help thinking he was probably alright before  I called it in, just drunk and fast asleep. How ironic. :\

General / Abandoned motorbikes.
« on: 12 March 2013, 05:56:16 pm »
On my way to work last night in near blizzard conditions I was amazed to see a biker on the A249. By the time I got to the A2 at Gravesend the roads had become imo impassable for a bike. My thoughts turned to the biker I had passed earlier and all the bikers coming out of London heading home this way. Sure enough, on the way home I counted 6 abandoned  bikes on the hard shoulder. I don't know about anyone else but it would have serious implications on my sleep if I had to abandon my bike on the motorway. :(

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Rev counter flicked to 9k
« on: 11 November 2012, 04:52:23 pm »
Hello foccer's, came back from a little sunday blast today and as I negotiated my slippery path the front slipped out from me and had to gently lay the bike down and stepped off. No damage done, thanks to the crash bobbins but on turning on the ignition rev counter flicked to 9k. Started alright and didn't do it again. So am I right in assuming it was the tilt sensor and will it need resetting at all, or have I got away with it ? Thanks peeps. :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Weedy horn
« on: 25 September 2012, 06:37:23 pm »
Hello fellow Focc'ers, have seen in the past some threads about a decent replacement horn. Mine is a little short of pathetic and have had several instances where I have really wanted to give someone a good warning blast  but have only been left feeling totally inadequete and slightly embarrassed. So, can anyone point me in the right direction and restore my ability to get noticed  when it matters. Cheers. :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / oil filter rounded off
« on: 31 July 2012, 06:13:20 pm »
Hello peeps, recently whilst doing an oil change and using the correct removal tool it rounded off the end of the filter. Am wondering whether I should have let it cool down more before trying to remove it or the obvious and not nip it up so tight :\  but the damage has been done now so has anyone also had this problem and how did you get round it ? Please don't tell me to stick a screwdriver in it.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Folding mirror party trick
« on: 29 July 2012, 05:29:28 pm »
Got the chance to max my bike today as I wanted to see how fitting a gen 2 touring screen affected the top speed. As i tucked in and my speed increased my r/h/s mirror folded back. It reminded me of the veyron when it all hunkers down and spoilers lower to make it more slippery. It's only started to do this since it took a direct hit from  a pigeon at 3 figure speeds  but I thought what a pointless but pretty cool mod. Am now on the lookout for a kamakazi pigeon to take one for the l/h/s :lol

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Buzzing fairing insert
« on: 04 July 2012, 06:29:14 pm »
Hello peeps, my bike has started to develop an annoying vibration from the r/h/s fairing insert between 3.5 &4.5k revs. I noticed it did not have a rubber washer on the top mount and could only find a thick tap washer but this hasn't cured it. I'm sure there are plenty of you who have had this problem and am curious as to how you have solved it. All replies appreciated chaps......and chappettes :)

For Sale & Wanted / Gen 2 genuine yamaha touring screen
« on: 15 June 2012, 05:25:31 pm »
Bought this with the intention of cutting it down to fit my gen 1 :rolleyes  but after spending hours making  cardboard templates just can't bring myself to make that first cut :\  So if anyone wants it for £75+£5 postage, it's your's.  It's lightly tinted with a yamaha logo at the bottom, complete with edge trim and pads that prevent it marking the top of the fairing. Never fitted so as new condition.
