VHT Flameproof Paint
«
on:

My engine block looks so tatty with the paint flaking. I was given a tin of something like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VHT-BLACK-FLAMEPROOF-EXHAUST-COATING-PAINT-SP102-/350869502666
from a lad at work - the picture on it is of the exhaust pipes, but would this sort of stuff go on to the engine block just as well?
If so would it just be a case of:
1) Clean parts to be sprayed
2) Mask parts not to be sprayed
3) Spray?

I used Plastikote spray, which isn't classified as high temp. spray and it's holding up fine.
Just make sure you thoroughly degrease anything you spray otherwise it'll cause you problems.

Proper degreaser would be better first - something like Ultra Gunk which you can get from Halfrauds or fleabay

I used Gunk from a spray can but brushed it into all the nooks and crannies, then i jetwashed it off, which blew half the paint away but that wasn't really a bad thing, then smoothed down what was left with wet 'n' dry.

ive used that VHT paint on my downpipes for years, very good paint, bit overkill on the engine.....as darrsi suggests , use plasticote, lots and lots of de-greasing is the key......pun intended

Down pipes for me is Granvile cylinder black satin and once painted on you need to start up and heat up, you will see smoke and it smells a bit but it kind of bakes on. Im thinking of touching up my flat tops of fins with it. Comes in a tin and I cant see any brush strokes on the exhausts. It sticks to anything as I got some on the shiney bits and its a bugger to get off. Dont think I would do big flat areas with it tho

I used barbecue paint on my engine , gave it a real good rub down , degrease , masked up and sprayed . Works a treat , also sprayed down pipes at same time . Used all weathers and still looking good .
