All the talk of the great roads of Wales on another thread has got me slightly jealous, so I thought I'd try to piece together a route up here to compete. Not entirely unsuccessfully I might say  :)  The southern stretch of the A595 is certainly up there with the best, and coupled with one or two others, gave me a route of about 180 miles that was largely, shall we say, brisker than the mountain routes  :evil

Did do a brief detour to Wasdale again though, just for a break and the variation:

Sitting gazing at the view, the mountains seemed strangely unreal, almost like they had been printed on the background of the sky. But I just can't do it all justice with my dubious photography skills.

The route back home took me through Coniston, Ambleside and Keswick. Some proper tight little rollercoaster roads from Barrow to Coniston, but had one of those days where it was almost like being on rails - speeds on this bit probably rarely got over 50 or so, but even that low, these roads can catch you out. Not so today  :D  Bright, warm sunshine all day, until I got home. Then it pissed down. Uncanny  :lol

but then hammered it up the M6 back to Carlisle as time was getting on.

Pics from today.
River Tees:

A pretty little spot:

Ribblehead viaduct:

Pen-y-Ghent nicely lit:

Not so with Ingleborough:

This viaduct just outside Hawes on the way to Garsdale:

'Hammered' Surely not breaking the law by speeding? Oh! it's a red one, no chance of that then. :2fingers :pokefun

No law on how fast you get to 70mph  :lol

Hedgetrimmer would never break the speed limit even on the fast red one. To many hedges around  :lol

Well I have learned something today, I am really surprised that the red ones will actually get to 70mph then.
They are quicker than I have been led to believe.

Fazer 1000 was feeling a bit dead and EXUP was Rattling. Had a set of Slinky Glide cables in with about 20,000 km.
they must have stretched a bit or settled as the EXUP  was so far out it was hitting the exhaust at rest. Up with the tank to adjust it and ran out of adjustment before it was set up correctly, Foc  :'( . Had a good old OEM set that came with a servo I bought over a year ago. Swapped them out and was able to set it up correctly. Way more adjustment available with the OEM ones. See pic. cables are exactly the same except for the adjusters.
Then checked the TPS as the tank was up and that  was way off also :rolleyes .
Went for a short spin to fill the tank and check it out, what a difference, back to nearly pulling the arms off in 2nd and 3rd again  :woot
Just need a new back tyre and will be sorted for the UGP  :thumbup Sportec M7 RR lasted 7000 Km, front is still good for another few 1000Km. :)

Tommy mate - you lose 2 balls for driving a poof's car, but gain 0.5 for riding a silver bike so we'll call it 1.5 balls then  :pokefun

Meanwhile, I've changed sprockets and chain, all fluids and cleaned it literally for the 1st time in a year - it was 'kin hanging  :lol
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.

Not today but 2 weeks in the Italian Alps: After bigger trips in the last 2 summers, went for something a bit simpler this time:

My Fazer is now at 40000 miles, but still did 900 miles in one day, when I did Austria back to Bristol.

Looks like you had a good trip, nice photos, thanks for posting. Hope you had better weather than midden and me!
I'm still thinking about doing another one next month, and have just booked the bike in to have some bits done so it'll be ready, but not certain of going yet. Mine is also approaching 40k miles, but I wouldn't have a moment's hesitation in riding the thing around the world if it came to it. 40k is nothing on these if they're looked after, as you know of course.
You also beat our one day return trip of about 750 miles from Austria to Gravesend, good going!

My exp is that the weather is best in the eastern alps in mid-late august. I went earlier, because i was dying for a decent bit of riding. i'd love to be Gravesend based, i'd be off to the ardennes, eifel, taunus or hunsruck much more frequently....

Update on post http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,6412.msg238868.html#msg238868

Wrote to Wemoto informing them of the issue with the Slinky Glide EXUP cables. They confirmed there was an issue and Slinky glide had  changed the adjuster to allow for more adjustment and best off all they are sending me a new set free of charge. :woot
How is that for service? Considering I bought the original from them 3 years ago. :thumbup
