Gen 2 Fazer replacement options
« on: 05 June 2023, 09:10:09 am »
My Gen 2 Fazer that I bought new in 2009 was stolen on Friday and I wonder what others have replaced their Fazers with. I had fitted a top box in place of the rear pillion seat pad and the bike suited my needs perfectly.

What current bike has 1000cc, 150HP, around 200kg weight, a centre stand good wind protection, no electronics to fail (ABS, traction etc) and full service manual available online. The Tracer 9 seems a backward step, as do the litre sport tourer offerings from Kawasaki and Suzuki. Any thoughts welcome!

Really sorry to hear about your loss having had bikes stolen in the past I know crappy it is. I've recently been pondering what I would replace my Gen1 Fazer with, like you I'm not a fan of needless electronics but I've reached the conclusion that it's going to become increasingly impossible to find bikes without rider aids as people starting out with them won't be able to develop the skills needed to ride without them, and those wanting to win the willy waving competitions down the pub would not be able to ride their 200HP bikes on the road without them as that level of power is just insane for road use. I can see why you say the T9 seems like a backwards step in terms of CCs and HP figures but the latest version with the CP3 engine seems to win everyone over for pretty much every aspect including performance and handling I wouldn't necessarily discount it without a test ride. You don't say why the Kawasaki & Suzuki offerings are a backwards step so it would be hard to recommend anything without having the same issues if we don't know what they are also your budget would help narrow down the field.

Myself, although I'd love a KTM Youtube seems full of issues with them including poor treatment by KTM UK, and TBH I'm wary of anything not Japanese in terms of reliability and overall cost of ownership. Untill anything new hits the scene I've pretty much settled on a Versys 1000 should I need to replace my Fazer, mostly as it's big enough not to make me look stupid sat on it (6'3" 20+ stone) and the top notch pillion provision will help win the Mrs over. Sure it's down on peak power but it's not always about the headline figures especially on the road.

Well, I'm coming up to 70 years old, have a few health issues and my wife says you cant take it with you. So I either spend my twilight years in a rocking chair watching daytime telly. Or I buy an MT10..

I collect it on Friday.

But an MT10 has very little weather protection, has loads of electronic gizmos and it drinks fuel like it's free!  :evil

Hi Otley, I'm getting on a bit too & started to look at more sensible options to the Fazer 1000. I've now got a KTM 890 Duke R with "Track Pack" and it's an amazing joy to ride! Hope you enjoy your new MT10 as much.Take care.

Sensible & KTM not two words you often hear together especially with "Track Pack" thrown in  :D  sounds like a lot of fun  :useless
