Mirror vibration
« on: 03 August 2016, 05:19:14 pm »
I have noticed on my fazer when I ride the mirrors vibrate a lot. You can see the car behind you but it's buzzing about a bit... If I touch the mirror you can feel it vibrating. I have had my carbs balanced as I thought it might be that but no joy...

Is this normal?

if I were you i'd be checking to see if the mirrors have the rubber support between the fairing and the fairing brackets, also you could get the front wheel rebalanced and check the front wheel bearings, other than that I wouldn't have the foggiest idea, best of luck

Anything to do with unwanted vibes, try soft sided velcro to create a cushion, especially good with plastics like fairing infill tray, fairing screen, etc.

Or buy some of these, if you wait a couple of days i'll have mine delivered and fitted and give you my personal opinion.
Meant to be wider for starters, but at that price you can't really go wrong (wait for my opinion).

Heavier bar end weights may help as well if you can't suss it out.

Check that one of the threads have not snapped, the mirrors are only held on by two cast threads.

If you take your infill panels out you can see them.

I'm not going to embarrass my bike by showing pictures.
I just fitted them a minute ago, and indeed the width is better, but the build quality is below poor.
One had rusty bolts, so i just cleaned them up, and one has a much stiffer mirror movement than the other, so as soon as i see one move a millimetre after riding they'll end up in the bin.
Also the rubbers that cover the mounting point look like absolute shit, they're just poor all round.
Don't get me wrong, i wasn't expecting the highest quality for that little amount of money but these are just taking the piss.
I'll be amazed if they're still on my bike in a couple of days.

Hmmm, after a bit of faffing about this morning i realised the right stem is slightly lower than the left one, meaning the left one can reach a little bit of a better viewing angle than the right.
BUT, there were hardly any vibes at all on the mirrors, and the one i thought might move remained in position, and that's including a couple of roads of speed bumps too, but it is only the first day, plus it's dry as well, although thinking about it our toxic dusty rain might help keep the balljoint fixed in place.
I would say now that about 3/5ths is clear mirror viewing and 2/5ths elbows, which is much better than before.
