FZS600 Fazer / Re: idle adjust screw at end of turning
« on: 14 July 2019, 11:24:39 pm »
this is what i did cleaned carbs out check pilot settings most where out some by 2 turns seated them and then turn out two turns got carbs back on bike set tps sensor.... then put on my gauges and balanced 1/2 then 3/4 then between 1/2 and 3/4 got them all level when blipping throttle.... but i forgot to set idle after wards so today i warm her up to running temp and adjust the idle screw on thing was it wouldnt turn any further i got it to 1000 -1100 rpm but it will not turn any further up it will only drop it down loads till it stalls

Then something is wrong mate, you usually have to turn the main idle screw down not up, the butterfly's aren't open enough, which means they're not pulling enough Hg.  The 2 turns out should give you the correct air setting, from there you have to set the Hg it MUST be between 230 - 250mmHg on every carb before they're balanced the number is very important.  Then the fun starts you've got to get 1/2 balanced still pulling the Hg then 3/4 and then balance 1/2 & 3/4 still pulling the the Hg figure if you can't get them all in balance pulling the Hg figure and idling at the correct speed there's something wrong.
I'm a bit confused by this - if I adjust the vacuum to 230-250mmHg on each carb using the pilot screws, what is left to adjust using the balance screws?

2004 is a completely different engine to 2002 though....

Did you check for 12v on the two wires in my post above? Colour wiring diagram in the Haynes manual.

The backup fuse is in the main fuse box on a 2003, and the main fuse is in the top of the starter relay next to the battery. Do you have 12v on the blue/black wire going to the 4 pin relay when the light switch is in the on position? and do you have 12v on the yellow wire going to the 5 pin relay when the high beam switch is on?

Rode it, for the first time since getting it. Have spent the last 2 or 3 years turning it from a bag of shit in to something reasonable, did a steady lap of the TT course this morning. Enjoyed it, there are still a couple of things to sort out, but it went well.

There are two lots of power to the relays though, the power being switched and the power to operate the relay. You have the power being switched, as proved by looping it at the relay connector and making the headlights work. But what His Dudeness is saying is that the signal circuit, which operates the relay, may be at fault.

Resistances are in the Yamaha manual in the downloads section. Have you got 12v on both red/black wires to the coils? Are you grounding the plug/lead to the cam cover? - it is insulated from the engine by the gasket and the seals on the bolts.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Fuel tank leak
« on: 28 June 2019, 11:10:00 pm »
I know this is off topic but relates slightly to the post title.
I've noticed a slight smell of fuel from my filler hole when the flap is closed & upon comparison with my friends Fazer I seem to be missing a small hex bolt from under the filler cap, there is the obvious fuel filling hole & then the rubber bung (with hole) by the hinge but next to that I have an empty hole where he has a nut (hex type), does anyone know what this is for and by any chance have one I could purchase?

Thanks in advance.
Yes this will be the cause of the smell of petrol, you have a hole directly in to your tank where the screw should be. You need an M4x10 cap head screw. It may be worth draining your tank too as water could have got in through the hole and be slowly rusting through the bottom of your tank. 4 of the screws around the cap do not do anything, they are just there to look nice, you could use one of those until you get a replacement.

Thanks. Which spark plugs does the Gray/red coil go to, and which does the red/orange go to? One should be 1&4 the other should be 2&3.

Other way round according to the parts book, cast legs facing the wheel on both sides. I don't think it really matters though, LH and RH are the same part number, as long as the stud lines up with the hole in the end cap it wont make any difference.

Hi, can anyone help me with the wiring for the coils please? My bike has been in bits for a while and I am struggling to find which wires go to which coil. There are two red/black wires, a grey, and an orange, but I cant see in the Haynes or the Yamaha manual any information on which of the grey or Orange go to the 1-4 and 2-3 coils.

The end can uses the standard gasket to fit on my downpipes, however I took the downpipes off tonight and there were 8 gaskets between the headers and the engine. I expect this will account for some (or hopefully all) of my alignment issue.

OK thanks, you cant tell from the picture but there are no link pipes between 1-2 and 3-4. Does anyone else have any alignment problems with theirs?

Can anyone tell me what downpipes these are in the picture? I have a set on my bike which were on when I bought it, but the mounting hole at the back seems way out of line with the mounting hole on the frame.

Just checked the cables on my bike - the two small nuts on the opening cable, longer hex on the closing cable.

I re-shimmed mine, shims are between £2 and £5 (Wemoto). I only needed to buy 6 shims, I adjusted the rest by swapping the existing shims around.

« on: 22 September 2017, 08:09:41 pm »
Yamaha dont list the seal as a separate part - its an oil seal 56 x 45 x 5.5 but the sealing lip is on the outside and it presses on to the  sensor.

« on: 22 September 2017, 07:21:29 pm »
The oil seal on my speed sensor is damaged resulting in grease ending up on the brake disc - does anyone know where (if) I can get a replacement seal? I dont really want to have to fork out for a new sensor just to get a seal.

No, not damage from taking them out, they have rotted away around the edges. And yes - new pistons made by my own fair hand.

Nice bit of work on them pistons mate, I hope you put the main seal in the correct way around?

I got the new seals from Wemoto and the main seals are parallel not tapered, however when I put them in the groove (either way round) the inner edge was sticking up higher than the outer edge. The groove itself must be machined to hold the seal in the correct position.

Thank you. I would normally have just bought new ones but £200+ was just too much, I have already spent more on this bike than it cost me to buy and I had the bronze bar so it seemed the best solution.

The pistons in my front calipers were pitted (to say the least!), so I have made a set from nickel aluminium bronze, new seals fitted etc, and have got some new Hel brake lines to go on too - Looking forward to a better front brake.

The front calipers are off my bike at the moment. Just measured one of the bolts - M10 x 1.25
