Just out of curiosity how do they get bent in the first place??. I went to inspect mine the other day only to find nearly all the bolt head rusted beyond recognition, by the looks of things it's never been touched......BUT, it's running sweet even though it's coming up to 40k miles. I plan to leave sleeping dogs lie until the winter and get the header pipes off to a local engineering company to get the valve and all the old bolts out.

A pic of the beast (if it comes through) rack will be gone soon and I'll get round to painting the engine case up in the winter

« on: 04 June 2015, 08:29:07 am »
Cheers guys, I've seen rubber perish before. We have a product at work called sikaflex, it's in a tube and is basically rubber that is used for a multitude of sins, I'll fill the cracks in for now with that just in case and replace them in the winter.

Did a search for them on google and Yambits came up with a price of £90 odd for a set, has anybody delt with these guys ? http://yambits.co.uk/fzs1000-fazer-inlet-rubbers-p-54197.html

Hi guys,

just as I'm knocking one out over my newly acquired 2001 1000 Fazer I've found the first issue, the carb inlet rubber are cracked to shit  :'( it's probably only a matter of time before they start to let air in.
Where is the best place to buy new ones?, I know with older Honda's Dave Silver was the man, who is the Yam man so to speak? or does anybody know of a good second set for sale?.
Lastly, are they they the same as the R1 ?......on a happy note the rest of the bike is sweet  :b

Pics soon enough, got some touching up on engine paint etc then I'll get the camera out, love the look of it :lol   it's got a rack on it which I'm taking off for now so I'm on the lookout of some standard grab handles (2001 model) hopefully getting some miles is as soon as the painting is done ;)

exup for sure as expensive to sort if buggered rear shock is pants engines are bomb proof altough silver engine paint does tyre in its luster with age

itd one the best slrounders out there and long term ownership is well known as is the return to the bike after trying others
its a hard bike to beat

you can mod it to death i know one the main culprits

Cheers for that Devilsyam, how do you know if the EXUP valve is playing up? do they cycle run when the ignition is switched on ? God I've just checked out your website with your modded Fazers on :D , fair play to you you have put some effort into that

Right been doing a bit reading on here and I've decided to go for an early thou, a carbed model to be precise, that should keep my FI issues at bay (up to 05 I think) the throttle goes both ways so they say :-) Cheers once again guys

Hi Mark, I've owned all the Fazers apart from the 8, and I can safely say they're all cracking bikes in their own way.

The Fazer 600 came in the boxeye, and Foxeye variants. Just the headlight fairing was different.
The 600 is probably the only bike you'll ever need, but not the only one you'll ever want. It can do absolutely ANYTHING!!!
I've toured, scratched, and commuted well over 100,000 miles on them and loved every minute of it. There's trackday heroes on here that track these bikes too!

I've currently got a gen 1 thou as my commuter/tourer, and its a lot heavier than the 600, and not really that much quicker, but bigger and a bit more comfy for my long legs. It'll again do anything the 600 does, just gets 45mpg rather than the 600's 55+mpg

The fz1 is just coming into your budget at 2500, and the best description for it is that it's a comfy R1. Lost a bit of the Fazer soul, but if you like to rev and go round corners fast, then this could be a winner.

The fz6 is again a revvy little beast, based heavily on the r6 engine. In a way it kind of missed the point, but owners generally love them.

Imho the Foxeye 600 is probably the best value bike out there, and are reliable as a Swiss watch.

Cheers for the replies guys, particularly Stevierst, just the sort of info I wanted. I'll do a bit of soul searching over the next few weeks and hopefully be on here with a fazer 600 or thou :-)

Cheers
Mark

Hi guys,
newbie here and on the lookout for a Fazer, always liked the look of them all, I'm thinking of spending up to 2.5k but I don't know which model to go for. My mate always says 'a good big un beats a good little un' so I guess a fazer thou but I'm not adverse to a 600 to be fair. Looking about the net the 600's are cheaper with the early ones going for as little as a grand, I quite like the idea of a manageable 600cc bike. What are they like to ride compared to the 1000cc Fazer?, and on to the thou again looking on evil bay I could possibly get a higher mileage thou for just the top of my budget. These days my riding style is steady, I do like to get a move on when the roads allow but very rarely see a ton these days. Oh yes lastly, which models are carbs and which are FI? is the FI reliable (I seem to have a FI hex on me, every bike I've owned with FI has given my shit of some sort or another lol.
Apologies for the long post guys, any input / opinions would be ace.

Thanks
Mark
