Hi,
This cover does indeed look a really good job and tops off what is a lovely looking example of our bike!
The original cover on my 1000 is also just starting to split and would be happy to do the same - however, I can't seem to find contact details of this specific supplier anywhere ???
Any pointers or links greatfully received.
Many thanks

OK - thanks.
I have sort of learnt this lesson - I did a complete inlet rubber replacement job on my 600 Fazer and realised that the 'cracks' were miniscule in comparison to the thickness of the rubber mounts. The bike is running perfect so, as my Dad said, don't fix what ain't broke!

Many thanks for the insight re: full or partial Ivanisation. I believe my Gen 1 is fully ivanised and have just started to notice external cracks on the inlet rubbers.

One of the previous comments suggested that the Full Monty included modified "Intake stubs" - does this refer to the inlet rubbers and, if so, what mods would have been done? Just in case I need to replace mine in time (currently superficial cracking I believe).

Many thanks

For note - the American guru 'Eskort' suggests replacing with 30A connectors - I'll see what's out there.

Thanks Don,
It turned out to be exactly that - the power line going into the 2-pin red connector has burned out. You're right too - there's more on this issue on the US site - here's an example should people need to sniff around: http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143486

I'm sure you are aware, but this has a lot of useful info: http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/technicaltips.shtml

I now know what needs doing although have done very little electrically and an nervous to start cutting wires - particularly with there be no slack to play with.

Is it a case of cutting as close to the connector as possible and hoping the new connector is long enough to bridge the gap or do you advise effectively breaking the existing connector to get as close to the blade and plug as possible?

Or …. cleaning it up sufficient to get it running (hopefully) and then driving it to someone who knows what they're doing!

Thanks

Doug

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Absolutely Dead - Electrically
« on: 03 August 2018, 07:35:14 pm »

Hi,
I have 'Y' plate FZS 1000 - as previously owned and improved by DevilsYam who I believe is no stranger to this good site.

Anyrate - I'm seeking some advice / guidance please.

Bike was running perfectly. Came out earlier in week, turned ignition key and absolutely nothing, no lights, no clicks or burrs...zilch.
Did a bit of research on this forum and initial feedback seemed to be battery. It was sitting at ~12.2 V unloaded (couldn't load it). I have had it on charge via Optimate and it's now at over 13V (charger still connected) - but still absolutely nothing when I turn the ignition key.

I've checked the fuses - all fine. I also have voltage at the main fuze when the ignition is turned which could suggest the barrel is OK??

I will remove plastic and tank tomorrow to see if there's anything obvious. I will also have a quick look and clean in the kill switch. May try a jump too.

However, my main question is: "does the fact that I get absolutely nothing point to a specific culprit - is there a relay which is the very first thing in the circuit (after the fuze)?".

I'm more than happy to buy a battery - but it doesn't 'feel' like that at the moment although I appreciate these can be digital in their behaviour.

Thanks  :)

Hi,

I have a spare pair of the Givi Mounting bars which suit the Gen 1 Fazer 1000.

These could be used to mount the Givi Top Box and Universal plate I currently have advertised on EBay - I'm Bikeownerus residing in mid-Beds (MK45).

Happy to sell these bars for a minimal amount if they help anyone?

Thanks

I don't think they're faded at all - I'm not aware of them looking any different really during my ownership. However, the back wheel has tended to get coated in spray from the chain lube and I'm minded to leave that there as it forms an excellent protective coat which can be removed as necessary!

Hi,

The objective is to clear some garage space - so I'd say chances are no - unless it's completely unmissable?? What are details and why are you trading down?

For Sale & Wanted / 2003 FZS600 Fazer For Sale
« on: 24 May 2013, 08:38:28 pm »
Hi,

It is with a heavy heart, but my faithful Fazer 600 should probably go to a another home .....?

First the spec, then the history

  • Fazer FZS600 registered June'03 - Red
  • I am 2nd owner
  • I acquired Jan'08 as the 'perfect' 2nd hand purchase in Jan'08 with 5500 miles on the clock
  • It now has 26500 miles on the clock
  • Very good recent tyres
  • Aftermarket silencer with original as spare
  • META alarm system with spare fob + 'magic' number
  • KN air filter
  • 'Fancy' (expensive?) plugs
  • Rad cover
  • Spare key
  • Spare seat - with small tear
  • Seat on bike also has a tiny tear which is 'patched'
  • Recent replacement battery (gel)
  • Currently on SORN
  • Will come with full 12 months MOT
I bought this as an immaculate low mileage example which had been used by a lovely old guy only when the temperature was above 20C.
Nonetheless he had it serviced regardless of mileage.
I bought it as a practical work machine and used it from March'08 to March'12 as such - doing about 50 gentle miles a day - predominantly A roads.
I have done all servicing myself changing oil and filter very regularly. I have also done the fork oil and balanced the carbs a few times.
I have had the down pipes off a couple of times and painted and sprayed them - they are totally solid but it's an engineers job rather than an immaculate finish!
The bike has never ever let me down - if I had to ride to Portugal tomorrow (I wish), I would bet my mortgage it would get there with zero issues.
The bike is very clean and genuine but not showroom immaculate.
I am a gentle old fart of a rider - I have too much mechanical sympathy and insufficient nerve to get any where near a 'wheelie'.
It is still on original chain and sprox and these have loads of life left ...... sorry!

Why am I facing the inevitable and reluctantly selling it .....?
  • I have changed job and no longer do a bike based commute
  • I inadvertently bought a TRX850 off e-bay and this is now my high days and holidays 'toy' (I would not trust this to get me to Portugal yet!)
  • I want something to tinker with - the TRX is a tinkerers delight - the Fazer is boringly reliable!
I don't need to sell but it's sitting in my garage as an under utilised asset.

Looking for £1700 - does that sound fair?

Very happy to chat at length: 07789 455 472

Thanks for persevering

Doug
