General / Re: What protection should I but on my battery contacts

From what I understand, you secure the contacts and *then* put the silicone spray/ Duck Oil/ WD-40/ ACF-50 over them to keep water away and help prevent corrosion.

General / What protection should I but on my battery contacts

As per the title its a new battery and I have some servisol silicone grease, its says for switch contacts, ignition systems but it also says "high insulation properties".Eh - I dont get it why is it used on contacts if it has high insulation properties.Should I not put anything on, or maybe copper grease, vaseline or the servisol. I am only talking about a very fine smear. Or I also have some ACF 50 I could use.

Was going to mention a tight spot on the chain is exactly the symptom's apart from a chain tight spot is still knocking when off the throttle -so ?
Worth checking the chain for tight spot though.

I thought about it but disengaging the clutch makes it disappear immideatly, then I dont think that is the culprit. I'll still will check for good measure.

I found one another person had a similar sisue but at 3000-3500 RPM He solved it and wrote:
"the clutch boss spring had broken, taking out two clutch plates and the clutch hub bearing was knackered....replaced the clutch hub bearing, full set of plates and new boss spring-all back together and running fine..and no noise"

Spec says Starting Power (CCA): 175Amps
Yes good point about the size - which I checked before buying as well.I read something about cold cranking, not sure it was to do with the one I brought.

FZS600 Fazer / Engine knocking noise at 4000-4500 RPM only Fazer 600
« Last post by kutce on Today at 12:16:27 pm »
I just got a 1998 Fazer 600 and rode around 350km on it.
I notice there is a knocking feel on the bike at around 4000-4500 RPM. Its not possible to hear snce its only apperant when driving and the wind becomes louder. It it possible to feel through your legs, hands and butt.
I have no idea what it can be
- Knocking is not present with clutch pulled in
- Knocking is not present at low RPMs
- Knocking is not present or not feelable at high RPMs
- at 4000- 4500 RPM very noticeable constant frequency knocks
- No rattle on the cam chain at idle
- bike start easily
- No rattle when decelerating
- Bike gargles from the exhaust when decelerating, dont know if its worth to mention

What can this be??
I want to check the carburetor syncing then cleaning, maybe one piston is not getting gas and it hits a natural frequency of the bike at 4000 RPM. Next would be to check the chain adjuster. Hopefully its not the cam chain.

Thank you for the help already

So a new battery it is then after 26 years. I will be putting a Yuasa one on and from research it looks like its a Yuasa YT12B-BS. Not too bad price in Halford's at £62.I read that the BS means bottle supplied so I put the electrolyte in myself but halfords state "Battery comes pre-filled & ready to fit
100% maintenance free" so do they put it in at halfords or is it shipped from the factory already filled so it is not actually a BS battery ?

Surprised you never asked peoples thoughts before buying?
They do a Motobatt which i had 2 batteries ago, £64 on Ebay including free next day delivery which is good as other sites on there are charging nearly £95 for the same one.
Just checked and the last one i bought was a Varta.
I normally look for one that has a higher amp hour capacity especially for cold cranking due to me riding throughout as much of winter as i can.
One thing not mentioned, unless the ad's blatantly have the name and model of your bike on them online just make sure that all the measurements are spot on.
I sort of did ask peoples thoughts as I spent some time searching on the forum  :book and the general consensus was that the Yuasa YT12B-BS was the best choice. In one post your good self sort of recommend Yuasa - in at least saying they were a good well known reliable brand  :D I was hoping you would chip in actually with some wisdom but I know you have other things to do than keep an eye out here.  :thumbup I also searched for the OEM one and no one really was talking about them and no one seemed to re fit another one.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: RIP EXUP!
« Last post by Falcon 269 on Today at 09:03:14 am »
If it's warped it can be straightened.  Not difficult, just have to be patient and careful.  Might need a few goes to get it right but use a straight edge to eyeball the spindles and gently bend it back in line.  Grip one spindle in a vise and gently apply pressure with your hand.

Much better to have a working EXUP than an empty one. :)
