I've just reached 600 miles on the bike and am thinking about carrying out the first service myself. Is it just a case of changing the oil and filter and checking the chain tension or is there other things I should be looking at as well. Not really wanting to stick it in to a local dealership if i can do that myself.

if its a new bike doing it yourself might affect the warranty ;)
-
+1 on what red98 said. I'm pretty sure It'll invalidate your warranty. I don't know if anyone else knows Amy different, but I've been told they do a 'nut tightener' at the first service.

+2...defo invalidate your warranty!!....dont do it.anything goes wrong after that?..they wont want to know ;)

Plus you get the dealer stamp in book. They should only charge you for the oil /filter change so why invalidate your warranty for the sake of a few quid?-think what you paid for the bike!
-
Yep, I agree. Get the dealer to do it. :'(

ditto what every one else has said, you've got a new bike don't invalidate the warranty for the sake of oil and filter even though it may still seem expensive (tbf it is expensive - £45 for a Fazer 8!) but peace of mind at least for the next year/6000 miles?

Thanks, I got the bike serviced by a local dealer. Did a good job and much happier that the bike has been looked at by a mechanic rather thatn myself. Happy riding to come. :)
