Got him a GS500F Suzuki about 4 years ago, '07 plate, bang on the A2 licence restriction. My lad's 25 and he passed the last bits of the A2 'jumping through hoops' test before winter set in. He went out last month and tested a new Africa Twin and an MT09 - he loved them both, but not the monthly payments nor the insurance quotes, nor the likely depreciation and obligatory service costs. So he started looking at 'older' bikes, VFR800 and XJR1300's. No real depreciation, no monthly payments and cheap insurance. His mates at work told him the XJR13 was a pig on stilts, so he started thinking Bandits......Nooooo!!! Just done a deal for him on a '54 plate Gen 1, 6k miles, 1 owner, standard and still on Metz4 hoops He'll only use it for fun and best yet, only £200 insurance fully comp. It'll be 15 years old next year and eligible for even cheaper insurance deals for him. Future classic bike - oh Yeah! Sure he'll be on here soon too, give him a nice welcome won't you? Nice to be back.

Mike, enjoy yourself, about time. But...... Have just returned to the forum to seek you out - picking up a '54 Gen1 tomorrow for my 25yr old lad - I'm gutted, he's gonna have to ride around without the blessing of your expertise on a standard FZS1000 - but hang on.....Costa Blanca you say? I can feel a touring holiday coming on once he's got used to it. All the best Mike and thanks for sorting my Gen1 many years ago - Polarbear put one of your friends onto it and he took it to Spain near you if I recall. Still there? I'd have it back any day

Ahh, judging by your plate on other posts, you ain't local are you? Sorry!! Guess you'll be doing the work yourself then? Ivanising for me for sure, but reckon from what I've read (no experience) the ignition advancer is not as worthy a mod as the Ivanising can be. Flashing....????

That's a looker Eddie!!! I'd recommend Ivanising - Full Monty - had a Gen1 done meself but sadly (stupidly) gave it away a coupla years ago - Full Monty again with my new (to me) Gen 1 just as soon as the Falcon lands again in Blighty. I'm sure he'll be along soon, responds to a lit garage with coffee, not to mention laying down a little Wonga to make him strut his stuff, but very well worth both the time and patience to seek him out. The rewards unleash the beast, easier starting without choke, crisper throttle response, less surging, better mpg and besides putting a bigger grin on my smiler, took off like a faster thing wot goes fast and all without altering standard gearing or using ignition advancers (the latter of which I'm sure the Great Falcon will no doubt advise is not really necessary either).

Mine's the '05 red and black one that Nick wanted Paid £3.5k privately, hugger, factory bellypan, bungs, fabri tall screen (and original), rad. guard, heated grips, alarm, still on original tyres with BIG chicken strips and low mileage of just under 5k. It's unmolested (dunno when I'll start ) but Gen1's are holding value well, maybe even rising? Mine woulda been over 4k at a dealer with a warranty no doubt. I paid top whack and was happy to deal, paid full asking price, no hesitation 'cos good ones are getting thin on the ground aren't they?. That's all Rob needs to find, someone who's happy with his bike. And it looks like one of the good ones. GLWTS from me too, but it won't be me sorry, I've got my keeper! Now where's Mike these days, Mike? Mike? About this Full Molestation Monty thing.....

Looking for FZS1000 Gen1 Fazer streetfighter screen in black / dark smoke - must be mint for my new toy - or new - anyone? Gave mine away with my 1st Fazer thinking I'd not need it again Standard and tall screens just create wind & noise around my lid, (I'm 6'1") while I find the cut down screen makes for undisturbed air and looks cool.

Agree with slimwilly, sometimes less is best - I prefer the streetfighter screen, level with fairing and no more.

you know she is going to say "never expected a bike to be in cross hatchings "
Could have been a cyclist, a jogger, a horse (and cart) a pedestrian, a dog, a zombie or a white walker. Hatchings are 'avoid' in that location shown, nothing to say any of the previous were illegally there at all. She was impatiently waiting in a queue, passed the physical barrier of the splitter island and clearly didn't look before turning. Glad no major injuries Red, keep us posted. Will try and PM you an insurance letter I kept some time ago (may even have been on here) which may prove useful.

Septik - Is a Dekko some kind of local delicacy that we should be keeping an eye out for?
A PieEater from Melton Mowbray (lovely pork pies) only thinking of his belly eh? Dekko is 'Scouse' for 'having a look' and not at all edible. Though there is a café within Carding Mill valley (National Trust) which was quite nice for a bit of scran. Well worth a dekko lar!

Hi Pie, Church Stretton to Asterton (Longmynd) via Burway Road/ Bur Way and the Port Way is single track and very scenic. Google it to research afore ye go. Takes you past the Midland Gliding club which on a good day makes for interesting viewing along with the nutters who throw themselves off the steep hill nearby on those big flying upside down hammocks. Not a scratching route by any means, but very worthy of a visit certainly. Before you start the run, it's worth calling into Carding mill Valley park. A dead end and quite touristy with facilities, but is once again seen from atop of Bur Way when you're riding toward Asterton from Church Stretton. Once you get to Asterton down the steep hill from the Longmynd, make your own route up back home. Mine usually involves back up north toward Oswestry, Ellesmere and Whitchurch, but that's going away from your base at Craven arms. Enjoy mate and let us know if you have a dekko.

Tourer? There's only one. That's my missus when we were in the Picos mountains 2013. Heated seat/backrest kept her toasty in -3 degrees in Scotland too, no complaints. Don't knock it 'till you've tried one. Suspension mod's transformed it for me (progressive front and rear) and she won't entertain anything less. And I can't blame her. Neither will you.
