FZS600 Fazer / Re: Standard Toolkit
« on: 24 June 2013, 10:04:19 pm »
Being a newbie to Fazer ownership I only realised there was a tool kit after reading this thread!  :rolleyes

I don't know if this is standard but for what its worth here's what I found:

Still, I'm glad I took a look under there, I found a Scottoiler!

« on: 18 June 2013, 09:23:40 pm »
I definitely would, but does this make me a hypocrite because I'd happily drive a car without a seat belt.
Up until recently I had a 1964 Vauxhall Victor with a bench seat and no belts which I'd drive all day.
Having said that, if a car had belts fitted I'd always wear them.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Fuel gauge problem.
« on: 18 June 2013, 11:31:21 am »
Being a part-ex clearance bike I only get a 'major mechanical' warranty.
I mentioned it when I booked the bike in today along with the awkward ignition key, but they're not included unfortunately. On the plus side they didn't even question the clutch (I thought it might not be included as it's done 31k miles on the original) and I will drop it in tomorrow.  :)

That's a possibility. Got bigger problems at the moment, the clutch has started to slip so it's going back to the dealer tomorrow.
I'll have a look at that when I get it back.

FZS600 Fazer / Fuel gauge problem.
« on: 13 June 2013, 01:41:20 pm »
Just bought my 2002 Fazer yesterday and noticed that the fuel gauge reads really low even with a full tank.
I think it's an electrical problem as when I give it some revs the needle moves, and during a motorway trip at about 6000rpm it starts to read accurately.
Then when the revs drop, the needle reads empty again.

So firstly, how many miles can I expect to a tank? (so I can gauge from the trip meter)
And is this a common problem, and if so is it a simple fix?

Cheers for the replies guys!

Welcome mate nice post. Well done fer passin. It seems harder now and more involved since i did mine, but aftet all that hard work u buy a red one????

U shudda shagged the secretary lol

And what's wrong with a red one? Besides, if I'd shagged the secretary I'd be redder than the bike!  :D

As for the test, a lot of the older riders at work said I'd never pass as it's so hard now. Apparently all they did was ride round the block and stop when the examiner raised his hand. WTF? I told them no matter how hard the test was, I'd be trained for it so should pass.

Best piece of advice I had was: Take your budget, slash it, spend the rest on training, because you're far better off riding a cheap piece of junk properly than buying a shiny expensive bike and stacking it into a hedge.

With this in mind, I spent £300 on a 30 year old GS125 which I can sell for the same cash, and freed up more for better training. And it really has paid off. :)

Bought it!  :D

Picked it up from my local Honda dealer (was a part-ex to clear), and my first post-test ride on a big bike was a blast along the M6 straight to work!

And it's shaping up to be one of the best decisions I've made.  ;)

Introduction / Hi from Coventry.
« on: 12 June 2013, 05:26:29 pm »
Hi all,
My name's Jon and I'm yet another bloke entering his mid-life crisis at 40. My wife gave me a choice, I could either buy a Porsche, bang my secretary or get a bike.

Seeing how I don't have a secretary and a Porsche is, well, a VW Beetle for tossers  :rolleyes  it had to be the bike.  :D

So last year I did my CBT and got a 125 Virago, pottered around on that until I realised I'd better get something easier to practice my Mod 1 stuff on, sold it, got a 1982 Suzuki GS125 and booked a 4 day direct access course.
I passed that a fortnight ago (Did Mod 1 & 2 on the same day) and weighed up the usual contenders; Hornet, Bandit, Fazer, SV etc, but I think I've made the right choice in a 52 plate FZS600 with 30k on the clock, FSH and one owner.

Got no pics as yet as I only picked it up today and went straight into work from the dealer, so in at the deep end with a 25 mile blast down the M6, and I love it! Much nicer ride than the Bandit I learned on.

Only one problem with it, the fuel gauge seems to read half a tank low. The dealer told me it was half full but the gauge read empty, so I stopped and filled it up, and yes it was half full already, so has anyone else come across this problem? If so is it an easy fix?
