Tried it out on the way home again after giving it a good soaking and greasing, and it seems ok now so must have been the pedal.
Thanks for your help guys, I'll keep on top of the cleaning a bit better!

No direct experience with an MC failure, but I'd say it was highly unlikely an MC will stick.  It's more likely to leak, leading to less power to the brake.  More likely is it being held by the pedal mechanism, or perhaps you've just been unlucky with the calipers sticking.

Are you sure you've not been accidently resting on the pedal when riding?

How long has the new caliper been on, and how often have you given it a clean (general clean, when it's on the bike - not a service/clean).

Knowing my luck the caliper could be shagged!  :rollin It's been on about two months I reckon and the bike's been cleaned at least once a week, but i do 250 miles a week in all weathers so could get gunked up.

I make a point of riding with the balls of my feet on the pegs, so resting my foot on the pedal isn't the problem.

I got home last night (after riding from work without touching it as it had freed off during my shift) and gave the pedal spindle a soaking with carb & brake cleaner, then WD40. Didn't touch it on the way in to work today but I'll see how it is on the way home, as at least I can get AA'd if it goes a bollock again.

I'll check that out. It's possible as I do ride it in all weathers and TBH the whole bike needs a bit of care.

Looks like the old back brake problem has reared it's ugly head again.
Got to work today to find the back wheel really stiff and red hot. The familiar smell of cooked pads hit me too.
Thing is, the old caliper seized, so I did the Thou mod with a caliper I had rebuilt just to be on the safe side (nothing against the lad I bought it off, it just pays to be sure), now that seems seized too.
I'm wondering if it's a master cylinder problem instead? After all, I didn't really check the old 600 caliper over after taking it off, I was just pissed off with it so junked it.

Has anyone got experience with master cylinder problems?

Waterproof boots.
Tcx s-speed wp to be precise. They leaked like fuck straight away.
The wp stands for wasted pounds I reckon.

This is the only picture I have I'm afraid, but it shows the bracket resting over the clutch lever bolt. The main attachment point is the bar end and the bracket just gives an extra bit of support. Really easy to fit, basically one bolt!

In my opinion definitely, along with a set of cheap ebay hand guards for the coldest times of the year.
In weather like we've got today they're useful, but when it hits 5 or under, the palms of your hands stay warm but the backs still freeze, hence the handguards.

Mr Self Destruct, old thread I know, but have you fitted those Universal handguards?
Wondering, because if you have, I'd like too.
Just got a new to me FZS1000, so looking to 'mod'.
Got the heated grips, just looking at hand guard options

Ian

Yes I did mate, got them three years ago and use them over winter. The fit is ok for my 600 but I'm not sure about a 1000 as I've never had one, but the fairings look similar so you should be ok.
They're not as effective as proper mitts, but with winter gloves and heated grips my hands are always warm.

Lets be honest here. The majority of motability car users (not all) have the car as a cheap means of getting a new car.

Most eh? Do you have any evidence to back that up, or is it just a gut feeling?
Those with Motability cars sacrifice part of their allowance to pay for it. It's not the cheap means of getting a car people seem to think it is.

And while we're being honest here, would you NOT sacrifice part of your benefits for a new car if you could? If I, or the person I care for, was disabled enough to qualify then I'd sure as hell want a car I'd not have to worry about mot/repair costs or whether it'll start in the morning.

Obviously we have too many people getting Motability cars when they should be buying their own but I also accept that for some people we need to provide them with transport.
the plastic pig might be the way to go. Disabled people will get dedicated cars that will help them transport themselves around and maybe one other passenger. Perhaps the plastic pig could be replaced with one of the San Permis cars from France?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39575293

Nine of my family and friends have Motability cars, and they all were reassessed. The six who got them back were all too disabled to drive themselves, and it turns out a large percentage of Motability cars have nominated able-bodied drivers (my stepdad drives my mum's car for example).
So while I totally agree with what the government are doing with the reassessments, I don't think an Invacar would benefit many of those who are left on the scheme.
Shame though, as I quite miss those little blue fuckers. My mum used to take me out in hers in the 70's, sitting on the floor by the seat, and I'd have to duck every time a copper was near.  :lol

Today, it's cars.
Driving cars specifically.
Slow, boring, cramped shitty cars.
Last night it took me nine hours to get from Coventry to Haverfordwest due to heavy traffic, roadworks, my daughter shitting her nappy, then puking all over the place an hour later.
So with my car stinking of shit and puke I was stuck in roadworks by Carmarthen enviously watching all the bikers filtering past thinking "I fucking hate being here!"

Its chained up as well, who the foc would steal it?

The chain isn't his. It was put there by a random biker to stop him riding it in public.

Black boxeye about 4.20 today in Rugby, on the A426 near Tesco.
The guy was standing next to the bike, which was at the side of the road with the front end smashed up. I stopped to see if he was ok, turns out he'd just been knocked off by a white van and dragged up the road by a lorry! He'd injured his back, but ok other than that. Said the ambulance, police and AA were all coming so I wished him all the best and left him to it. Hope he got home ok.

On the subject of women....
Women who lose their daughter's swim suit and tell you at 11.00 the night before said daughter's lesson, and when you offer to help look tells you not to bother because she's looked everywhere, and then runs off the list of exactly where you needn't bother looking, but when you look in the very first place she said not to bother looking and find the swim suit (behind the radiator in the living room FYI), she gives you an almighty bollocking like it's your fault she lost it in the first fucking place.

It's more out of curiosity really, there are so many aftermarket ones out there that I wondered if there were any originals available. I know there are used ones around but I was curious about getting a new one.

In a recent development, I was fitting a thou rear caliper and new disc/pads and leaned on the exhaust, which moved freely.
I gave it a shake and chunks of graphite seal fell out. Could this be the cause of the problem? I've got a replacement on order so we'll see.

Update: It wasn't.

Is it still possible to buy a standard silencer any more?
I'd be surprised if Yamaha still do them, and if they do they'd charge a fortune.
I know there are hundreds of aftermarket ones available, but does anyone make a direct OEM replacement that wouldn't be classed as a modification?
The usual searches have come up with nothing but Scorpions, Fuels, Vipers etc.

This is gonna sound pretty lame next to you all but here goes...

Six months after doing my CBT i went back to the school and did an "Introduction To Big Bikes" session, where I rode round a private car park for three hours.
Six months on an XV125 hadn't prepared me for the explosive power of a Kawasaki ER5!  :rollin
I was so used to gunning it on my XV when pulling away  (they're slow even for a 125) that when I did the same on the ER I damn near slid off the back. I remember bollocking towards this brick wall thinking "SHITSHITSHITI'MNOTGONNASTOP!!", but then slammed the brake on and planted my stomach on the fuel tank. Then dropped the bike when it came to a halt.

It made me realise that, like the instructor said, bikes are Ferrari performance for Fiesta money.  :lol

Agreed. I fucking hate Allen bolts.
You have an M8 thread which usually has a 13mm bolt head, yet they expect you to use a key half that size with an Allen head.
