Good point! Carbs are off so I'll look at the float valves tomorrow.
So those small holes, do they lead to the float chamber to allow ventilation to it or something?
If I didn't know better I'd say they were accelerator pump jets, but they're facing the wrong way for that surely?

Also, how do you embed pictures from Flickr? What worked with Photobucket doesn't with Flickr.

That's the million dollar question!  :lol
I've yet to see a new bike that ticks all the boxes that my Fazer does.
MT09, Z900, Street Triple, GSXS750, all perfect except for the lack of a fairing.
Tracer 900, butt ugly and not comfortable.
Tracer 700, v-strom, versys etc, not enough bhp.
Sports bikes, too cramped for my knackered knee.
Cruisers, I love cruisers but hate cruising. I like to take corners!
Damn shame Suzuki dropped the 1250 Bandit so soon.

I've found the problem with the replacement carbs, they're passing fuel out of these small holes on the inlet side (see attached pic) when the fuel pump is running.
https://flic.kr/p/WX7kaQ

What could be causing that? And is it a simple fix?

Hey mate, try not to get too down about it, don't do anything impulsive.leave it a while and see how you feel then. We've all been there, so we know how foccin' frustrating bikes can be. Just don't sell it until you're sure you want to, you may end up regretting it.
TBH mate I've never been into bikes, I've been into riding if you know what I mean. I don't care what I ride as long as I can ride. The maintenance and mechanical side of it is just shit I've got to do to enable me to do that. So if that becomes too much I'll write it off and get something that needs less work. Or preferably no work.
I was hoping this bike will last me until my Mrs gets out of this rut she's in and gets back to work. Then I'll be straight down my local dealer and get something brand new.

I found where the screws came from this morning, it was the air box.
There's an important lesson to be learned here; don't work on bikes when you have a depressed wife and manic toddler distracting you!
Got them back in place and got the bike outside to fire up with the replacement carbs, only to find them pissing fuel over the engine!
Seems they need a recon too.  :\  Granted, they were only temporary while my originals were away, but it's tipped me over the edge. I can't be fucked with the hassle any more.
Anyway, carbs have to come off again and I have to start from scratch, so if anyone wants a "project" bike with 69500 miles on the clock, not until the end of October and a comprehensive service history since 2013 for £600, give me a shout before my mood improves and I change my mind.

Oh good!
Apart from me feeling a bit of a dick.  :lol

Just got to figure out where the two spare screws came from then. :o
After that it's test run time tomorrow.

Done fucked up today!

Stripped the bike down last Thursday, got the old carbs off and new ones on today, all good until I found I had two screws left over and some sort of electrical relay hanging where it shouldn't.

Between Thursday and today I managed to lose whatever bracket goes there. I can't even remember what it looks like, let alone where it went. Anyone got a spare they're willing to part with?

Where are all these electric vehicles going to get charged if you do not have a  drive or garage?

How much will electricity cost when everyone is trying to charge their emission free vehicle and the goverment is getting no money from fuel and excise duty?
Probably public charging points where you'd pay a shitload more than if you could charge in your garage.
Electricity bills will go through the roof as demand exceeds supply. This will be countered by more power stations being built, and what will they run on? Oil!  :lol

As an update to this, I started from scratch again this week as I've only now had time to take the bike off the road.
New plugs at last service.
New caps today.
New coils today.
New air filter at last service.
New fuel filter today.
Pipe from tank to pump checked for kinks, none found.
Carbs balanced today.
Tps checked and reading ok.

Problem still there where I open it up fully and it just bogs down, yet can accelerate ok at 3/4 throttle.
I've exhausted all other possibilities than carbs, so have bought a used set to stick on while getting the originals refurbed.

Like it or not electric bikes are going to take over, but with Zeroes, Hayabusa prices for SV650 performance, it ain't gonna happen yet.

Got to admit though, the purchase price and recharging time are the only things that put me off.

That could be a new thread.....What side do you stand when wheeling your bike.

I stand on the left because that feels comfortable and natural.

I'm wondering if it's a right-handed/ left-handed thing?

Any lefties find it easier to stand on the right?

I did ask my instructor about this, me being a lefties and all, but he said stand on the left as that's where the side stand is.
FYI I shoot right-handed because I used to shoot my dad's muzzle loaders and you get a face full of fire else.

Ten years time things might be electric and gas guzzlers will be outlawed ! :\
Yep,does that mean that the bottom of the"Classic" market will drop out,and I'll be able to pick up a RD 250 for £250 again? 8) !
Yes, but only if you can put a Kubota Diesel engine in and run it on used chip fat. :\

They spend nearly three years converting the section from Droitwich to the M42 into a variable speed limit.

Are there actually any speed cameras in these motorway variable limit gantry's?.

Every time I go through the ones on the M25 everyone else is tearing through at least 20 MPH faster.

Do they all know something I don't? :rolleyes

Take it from me there are.

I use Navmii on my phone. Simple and free but unless you have a power supply don't bother with it. It eats your battery up within 120 miles.

Properly embarrassed myself this morning!
Playing with a Focus ST along the country lanes on the way in to work, all pretty friendly.
Got into town on a dual carriageway and stopped at some traffic lights. I was in the left hand lane behind an old duffer in a Rover and the ST was in the right, at the front of the queue. He moved over and beckoned me so I filtered in front of the old guy. Then the lights turned green and I dumped the clutch a bit too sharply. The front wheel came up, I shut off, slammed back down which banged it into second without the clutch so it totally bogged down, wobbled and slowly crawled away. I could actually hear the bloke laughing at me!

General / Re: Good News!! Ian Brady is dead!!
« on: 16 May 2017, 11:31:24 pm »
Personally I don't give a fuck that he's dead, I'm just glad he was caught and stopped from carrying on killing kids.
In my opinion the death sentence is wrong for two reasons; it's irreversible (like has been covered earlier in the thread), and it (like suicide) is an easy cop out for the criminal. As a tax payer I'd gladly pay to keep the likes of him in a steel box for the rest of their natural lives. No parole, no release, no end to the misery. Folk talk about the punishment fitting the crime, well if the victims' families have to live with the consequences of Brady's actions for life, so should he.
