Mystery wire on the brink of failure.
« on: 21 March 2013, 06:21:19 pm »
Hi all

I've just discovered a wire on the brink of failure but i can't figure out what it controls.

There are 2 wires below the reservoir on the right, one is earth and one is live (brown). Its the brown one thats frayed and close to failure. Have a look at the attachment.

Anyone know what this is? Something to do with the lights?

Will be repairing tomorrow but though it would try and figure out what it's purpose is!

It looks like the wiring to the brake light switch. Had the same problem on my 600.

that looks serious......fire risk, especially right under the brake master cylinder and all that flammable dot4.
i'd get the AA out to make safe other wise you might get a short, go puff and possibly maim a kitten or OAP.

it's your brake light btw!!
and sort those scabby bars out FFS!!!!!

The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money!

Wow, thanks for the quick response guys - i'll rewire tomorrow.

The bars are a bit scabby yes. But they suit the rest of the bike!

and the bead on the window doesn't look properly seated. It may be letting water in. :lol

Hi....

Definitely looks like brake light switch wiring..... Could check it with a multimeter if you had one.... Worth sorting out before blows a fuse or worse someone drives into the back of you when they don't realise you are braking....
