Ok this might be a crap idea but if you don't try, I guess you don't know


I'm thinking of replacing the seals for the shift shaft on my sprocket cover with sealed roller bearings that I used to use in radio control cars.
Was just thinking it might give the shaft a little extra stability  ;)


Has anyone else tried this ?

Never heard of anyone trying that, but the amount of movement there bothers me too.
Not that it really should… even on hundred thousand mile motors it doesn't seem to cause an oil leak and the slop at the lever tip is mostly due to wear at the pivot.
My lever had so much free play the tip could be waggled around a wonky circle of about 2' diameter until I changed the lever and foot peg yesterday.  :lol

Think next time the covers off i'll pull the seals out & get some measurements instead of guessing.

Ok its been a while but I've now had the Sprocket cover off  ;)

Pulled the Shift shaft seals out & cleaned up the recesses, tried the bearings to see if they were actually going to fit or not.
They fitted a treat, nice & snug as they needed tapping in, so cant see them coming out unless there tapped put.

What a difference they've made, No more shaft play at all & shiftling gear now feels so much better.

The bearings used were bought from Ebay (seller - Leomaxx22)
Advertised as "2pc 12x18x4 Rubber Sealed Ball Bearing Tamiya Kyosho Traxxas"
They only cost £2.13 so even if they only last a year they ain't going to break the bank  :lol

That's a nice little modification. Just remember not to pressure wash them

Never pressure was the bike anyway (hardly gets cleaned  :lol )

Did you have to modify the case?
Bearing single or double shielded?

No mods to case, just remove the seal & clean out any crap  before fitting the bearing.
The bearings I use are rubber sealed on both sides, hope that helps.
