Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / standard can
« on: 07 April 2015, 06:34:42 pm »
I got shunted the other day by a reversing van going into the back of me whilst I was stationary.
The bike went down and the end can has been scratched and dented.
I have 3 options -
1/ Buy an OEM can from Yamaha - £££££ :(
2/ buy an aftermarket can.
3/ fiind a mint OEM can (Gen1) from someone who has fitted an aftermarket can .
The thing is, that I hate noisy cans, so the standard can seems a good option as its quiet,  but I wonder if there are any aftermarket cans  that would be as quiet as the standard can ?
Comments and advice please? - Anyone with a mint standard can they are willing to sell ?? :rolleyes

Thanks for all your advice lads -
I went for the Yuasa battery in the end as I got a very good deal for one through a friend.  Apparently you need beware of imitation Yuasa batteries  for sale on the internet tho- thats what I heard on the grapevine - don't know how  much truth there is in that  - but wouldn't surprise me tbh.  Will  add another post soon,  to report on  how I get on with the new battery and give my verdict !!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / ...New Battery time
« on: 15 January 2015, 07:43:18 pm »
Hi -
The (old-ish) battery in my fzs1000 is dying - I had to get a jump start today - all this cold weather has made me realise that the thing is f----ed!
The question is, which  battery to get?
I need something that I can trickle charge as I often do short journeys - and one that has plenty of starting power - especially for the cold winter mornings.  I've had  Yuasa and Banner 'bike Bull' when I had a Honda cb750 - but I am looking at a Unibat CT14B-BS.  I believe these are fitted oem to Ducatis.  Does anyone know if they are any good -are they as good as Yuasa?
Advice please - Thanks ! :rolleyes

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / error codes on rev counter
« on: 30 October 2014, 08:50:56 pm »
Hi - when out on my 2002 fzs1000 today, the rev counter started behaving  strangely -it was jumping between 0 - 1000 rpm and the temperature light situated on the dial flashed. This happened a few times and then the rev counter behaved normally.  I did not notice any problems  with the  way the bike was running.  I looked up the error codes, but couldn't find one  for 0-1000rpm. Does anyone out there know WTF is going on ??
Thanks guys. :rollin

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: fitting a yamaha endless chain
« on: 06 June 2013, 09:52:43 am »
Thanks for your advice guys - Did the dirty deed ( and I mean DIRTY) - took off swing arm and gave it a good clean and greased the bearings.  I didn't have to drop the shock out completely -just undid the linkage - pretty straight forward really -  it took me all afternoon with a friend to do it tho ( cleaning all the chain lube out of the front sprocket area etc. took ages), but I think an endless Yamaha chain Kit may prove to be a good decision-and it wasn't  hugely expensive either surprisingly.  Rode the bike yesterday and I can't believe how much better it feels - mind, the old set hand 34 1/2 thousand miles on it and was totally past  its sell by date- feel much safer now!  :D !!!!!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / fitting a yamaha endless chain
« on: 03 June 2013, 07:29:07 pm »
Hi -
Have bought a genuine Yamaha chain kit for my Gen1 Fazer 1000.
It has an endless (DID ZVM) chain (in the kit).
It states in Haynes that you need to remove the suspension complete and then remove swingarm to fit the chain. Does any guru out there know if I can get away with just undoing the dogbones where it bolts on to the swingarm and slide the swing arm backwards just enough to get the old chain off and the new one on - I have never done this before as I have always used a broken chain with a rivet.
Any advice would be welcome - Thanks  :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / chains
« on: 17 February 2013, 09:18:27 am »
Hi- I need to replace my chain and sprockets on my bog standard 2002  Gen1 fazer 1000.  I don't ride hard ( but don't ride like a vicar either !) - so what x-ring do people suggest for best quality/ best value - I don't need the heaviest super duty race chain, just something that is better than o.e.m. spec- perhaps something like a DID 530 VXGB or an EK x-ring chain.??  I have read somewhere that it is always advisable to use a new Yamaha front sprocket, as other makes make more noise- is this true?  The Yam sprockets cost much more than say a Sunstar or JT sprocket - I see chain/sprocket packages that are very reasonable which use cheaper front sprockets, I just wonder if it is false economy and I would be better to go for the Yam front sprocket, and buy the chain and rear sprocket all separately - advice please, Cheers! :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / drive chains
« on: 09 December 2012, 04:12:10 pm »
Hi - It will soon be time for  a new drive chain on my 2002 Gen1 fzs1000-
I ususally fit a DID ZVM gold xring, but I am wondering about other makes like EK amd Tsubaki - I believe some EK chains have a 'screw pin' link rather than a push rivet -?
Also, where is the best (cheapest) place in the UK to buy an OEM Yamaha front sprocket?
Opinions please?
Thanks!! :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Which Handlebars?
« on: 01 September 2012, 07:49:50 pm »
Can anyone tell me which model number of Renthal handlebars are nearest in shape/reach etc to the standard bars on a 2002 Gen1 Fazer 1000.  There seems to be a confusing  number of different shapes/ styles in their range, and I can't work it out!!!.  :grumble :grumble :grumble Thanks!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / pressures for Michelin Road Pilot 3's
« on: 24 June 2012, 02:47:08 pm »
I bought some Michelin Road Pilot 3's for my Gen 1 fazers 1000.
The tyre fitter told me to inflate the front tyre to 38psi and the rear to 40psi - the reason being was that the rp3's have hard compound in middle of tread and soft on the shoulders.
The manual states 36psi for the front tyre and 39psi (solo riding) for rear tyre.
What pressures  should I use???
Thanks

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / R1 Exhaust cans
« on: 06 April 2012, 07:08:21 pm »
I'm sure it's been asked before, but is it easy/possible to fit an R1 end can directly  to an fzs1000 -?
If so, what year R1 is best to go for, and do you have to do any further mods - ( carbs etc ?) - or is it just a straight bolt on job?
Thanks
