how soon you all forget,, this noise is normal from the transmission on gen 1 fazers when accelerating hard in too high a gear,, everyone's will do it,, get down the box and it won't happen ;-)  accelerate in high gears with low revs and it will trrrrrrrr like fck, perfectly normal ;-)

« on: 15 July 2016, 06:36:29 pm »
Hey,

Does anyone know if the gen 1 wheels are used on any other Yamaha models?

The part number i get for all years is 5LV-25338-00-33, when i done a quick google search this threw up the XJR1300 from 2007 onwards (although 2009 seems to be different).

As i might need a new wheel i am looking to broaden the search if i can.
got a pair here,,, £140.00 for the pair with part worn tyres collected if you want them?

« on: 14 July 2016, 02:51:12 am »
The manual will be helpful for sure.  I'd start at the valve itself.  Cable with the black anodized end goes into the right-hand loop on the cable holder.  Route the cables flat behind the crankcase and up behind the airbox, then into the dedicated cable clip on the upper right frame rail.  From there the routing to the servo is pretty intuitive - just aim to keep the curve of the cables smooth all the way.  The servo pulley is numbered to show which cable goes where.  The manual covers this.
who needs a manual,,, thanks mike i feel confident to do it just from your excellent description  :D
ffs just looked at the cables and you're exactly right one of the cables is anodised black  ;)    cheers guru

Need to dig into the hoses, but, not tonight as it's Mrs Markie's birthday today and I rather like being married :) Suspecting overflow and carb heater hoses may be swapped over.

Cheers

Markie

make sure you keep the tank cap on when filling rad then rad cap on when filling tank

Tank cap was on when filling the rad, but still filled to the top.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / exup cable routing
« on: 12 July 2016, 06:04:46 pm »
hi all
a couple of years back i bought my current gen 1 fazer and whilst mike was ivanising it he informed me there were no exup cables and the exup cover was welded in place.  later i bought a set of headers complete with exup and now also have a pair of aftermarket cables.  the servo is in place under the tank and was confirmed by mike as fully working.  i wonder if anyone has a photo that shows the routing of the cables please and which side of each pulley the cables connect to?  i would appreciate any help as i am thinking of reinstating it this coming weekend  :rolleyes

try just taking the cap off,, make a rubber seal from an old inner tube or something the exact diameter of the hole then sanwich it in place with the cap,, this should seal it tighter if it is the cap but only run it until the fan comes on then shut off and let it cool.  if it stops the coolant loss its the cap thats faulty  ;)
incidentally if it was the water pump seal you would lose coolant through the weep hole underneath onto the top of the exup valve and you would see steam and smell it

this sounds to me like the pressure cap is knackered,,  water boils at a much higher temperature when under pressure so if you are losing the coolant through the overflow but not seeing bubbles in the coolant then i reckon your pressure cap is either not seated correctly or is knackered.
i had a gpz900r that i bought really cheap because the head gasket had gone.  i changed the pressure cap and it was absolutely fine  8)
any chance you could borrow a cap off anyone?  just to see if its this?  where are you at?
if you're close you can borrow mine to test it

« on: 06 October 2013, 08:45:25 am »
we all do it,, get a bit bored of the whole biking thing and we think its the bike.  it isn't its just us a bit played out with it all.  i let my fully sorted fazer go and had busa, bandit, tl1000, r1, 600 fazer, thunderace and allsorts.  i was still a bit bored of it all so i had a year of not really riding at all.  then i came back to it and guess what i have now.  the fazer is all things to all people and if you sell yours you will regret it massively in a couple of years.  take a year off and then see how much you like the fazer when you come back.  cos if you dont you'll end up eventually buying another and having it all to do again m8.  ;)

You'll be back
i did it,, built meself a fantastic gen 1 with all the extras,, then fancied something else,, had about 7 different bikes of all kinds including busa, r1, tl1000, etc etc.  then sat down and thought whats the ideal all rounder i'm looking for?   yep you guessed its the bloody fazer and i now have another one. :lol

This attitude that you must do this or don't do unless such and such has done it bull crap
Everyone can make there own minds up
I've done it and I'm happy I did - I thought I'd share the experience
But one again I forgot about the keyboard hero's
It's a free world for now go enjoy it
always makes me smile luke,, its the peeps with no mechanical knowledge that i feel sorry for cos given the choice between this mod or a fancy set of grips they'd buy the grips lol.  they just don't understand that if one somewhere has failed it's a problem and if theirs fails it will cost them more than the bikes worth to pay for the repair.  you won't get any warning at all and up until the moment of sudden and dramatic catastrophe your bike will be perfectly normal in every way. it can fail on startup,, at low revs,, at high revs anytime the result will be the same.  anyone with mechanical knowledge will have one fitted immediately, anyone else i'd urge you to do the same.  lukes guide on fitting it is excellent and even my mum could follow it i reckon.   read the american and english z1300 forums about this type of problem.  we used to advise people once they bought a z1300 not to even start the engine until this type of mod was done cos of the rarity of spare parts. ;)
