Title: Anyone touring over the bank holiday weekend?
Post by: Bretty on 21 August 2017, 09:16:45 am
Hi All,

Is anyone going touring over the bank holiday weekend?

I've got a free pass that weekend, with the missus away visiting family. What with the end of summer approaching and my bike running sweet I feel like a bit of a tour.

Don't worry, I'm not looking to tag along with you! I'm just looking for inspiration or suggestions!

I'm based in London, so was thinking something like - A lap of Devon/Cornwall? Wales? Cross the Channel (Dieppe / Normandy) or Dunkirk into Bruges/Brussels?

Suggestions and recommendations appreciated. Cheers!

Brett

A mate and myself are off to Vienna starting Thursday, going via the Ardennes, the Voges, the Black Forest and the Alps. Coming back  similar route but on different roads. Four days to get there, four in Vienna and four back via the KTM factory for a tour (mate has an RC8R).

For a long weekend break (3 to 4 nights) I would go to the Eiffel and Ardennes area at the bottom of Belgium and into Germany. 3.5 to 4 hours from a channel port gets you there (Spa Francorchamps)

I have stayed at this place before, http://aeaventures.com (http://aeaventures.com) ,

Luxembourg also worth a look.

Check out the RIDE magazine website for some suggested routes.

Good luck

Agree the Ardennes/Eiffel is great. Tmation, I had a google of that place but it seems a bit remote, so no bars/restaurants or nightlife I can see?

If you decide to come over to Wales for a few days we can put you up and I can take you on some excellent rides around the hills and coastline.

Yes not much in walking distance.

We did the half board package with unlimited wine, well worth the extra bit of cash.

As much free beer beer as you can drink as well  :D

Loads of stuff to see and great roads in the area, its a good base for 3 or 4 nights.

Hi Celticbiker, Top man!  8)  Thank you very much for your kind offer! I will certainly be in touch, but it'll likely be next summer. Wales is definitely on my 'to do' list, but it looks like this weekend we are crossing the Channel. :-)

A mate has just got in touch and suggested he wants to head off across Belgium and Germany, so we're planning that route.  :D

So it looks like we're going Calais to Lille to Trier to Koblenz to Cologne back to Calais and all the twisty bits in between.

I've downloaded a couple of routes but are there any 'must ride' routes along the way?
