I'd like the new one if possible please. Will you post to Germany? If you can give me the total price I'll pm you re payment and delivery address arrangements.
Thanks, Mike

2
Thanks.
Copper or Alu? or doesn't matter which? Anyone?

3
Thanks again everyone, what  a patient and helpful bunch you are.
Will 'av-a-go' and see what lurks .....

Not quite as straight forward as I'd thought .....

Looked easy enough to remove sprocket cover, gear change linkage arm and the 4 retaining bolts, but, my Haynes Manual then says .....

'Discard the gasket as a new one must be used'

I can see the gasket. So you have to replace the gasket just in order to inspect behind the cover? What is that gasket actually doing? presumably, as it doesn't seal around the chain entrance to the cover, it doesn't form part of the general lubrication system? or am I being thick? Maybe it forms the seal behind the actual cover and chain (can't see it for the cover), so is needed as it seals the main engine oil?

Noggy - try as I might, I could not even begin to see the sprocket by shining my torch along the chain and attempting to peer in. What's the secret?  :rolleyes

5
About to do my first oil/filter change.
Anyone kind enough to tell me what size and material crush washer normally used for the sump drain plug?
Thanks.

6
Thank you all for the fast, clear and helpful replies. Confident I can check now.

Noggy - thanks for the seat offer. I'm fixed up now, as a guy on the ABR forum had one which he despatched yesterday via Parcel Force. Any hiccups with that and I'll get back to you.

Looking to change to the 'safer' 12mm set-up.

Was reading posts on here about it and someone listed the required part number as 90891-101124, but when I did an Ebay search, the part number is shown as 90179-18006. Can someone tell me which, if any, is correct? or the correct one if neither.

Also, being a technical/mechanical numpty, what's the best/proper way to check the current nut condition? Is it simply take off a front sprocket cover (how?) and inspect? What am I looking for?

Thanks in anticipation.

Just done a quote using the link to P4D on the sticky above and it comes out at £18 for an illustration using 2kgs with dimensions 60x35x25 (guesswork) That's Parcel Force so could be done at Post Office I think.

Thanks gwc, how much do you want for the seat? If we can agree a price, I could get some shipping prices if you give me the dimensions in L/W/H and the weight. probably just a case of wrapping it well in a lot of postal tape and labelling it, don't think you'd need to box it.
Appreciate it, Mike

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted - Standard Seat for 1998 FZS600 Fazer

Had mine raised by 4 inches, but lending my bike to an American touring Europe and he needs it standard, as he's shorter than me. Anyone have one that they would post to Germany, for an agreed price?
Thanks.

I live a few miles upstream from Cochem. If you've not been to the Mosel before, you're in for a treat. The roads around here are fantastic for biking. Few  pointers for your trip:

- don't know what route you're taking to Cochem, but recommend you include the 258/257 in the Eifel National Park from Monschau/Schleiden/Blankenheim/Nurburg/Ulmen to Cochem.

- once you get to Nagold, consider a trip into the Voges, over the border in France. Lovely area and some cracking roads.

- in general, be very careful with German drivers on twisty routes, as they often cut the bends (even when something is coming) and rarely indicate when they are turning off.

Enjoy. If you need any specific info on our area, just ask.

Thanks Nick, for the nice comments.
Yes, of course we'll do discount for FOCcers - 10% off our usual cheap rates, making it 18 Euros (£15!) including breakfast and garage parking!
Be good to see you and other FOCers over. Maybe we should have a Euro meet, though the annual one from the German forum is just down the road.

Pretty-much all of the Belgian Trappist beers, which are easy for me as I'm in the Mosel Valley, close to the Belgian and Luxembourg borders, where I stock up. Also like heiferweissen (wheat beer) and Alt (pale ale) here in Germany. Spoilt for choice really!
Usually have a single malt chaser with them - particularly Talisker.

Am about to order a set of these. Before I do, for the mechanically clued-up, won't they throw the bars back as much as they make them rise? due to the angle of the clamps on the yoke? Seems to me that because of the angle, they will not 'rise' the full quoted dimensions, if measured in a straight vertical line. Not sure I want my bars any closer.
Ta.

Good luck with that Andy.

Rode the fazer the 165 miles from Northumberland to Hull for the ferry, then another 250 the next day to take her back to Germany. The seat mod made a huge difference to comfort, especially on the motorway/autobahn bits. Will definately be getting the vario peg lowering kit and then some risers, as the one thing I did find was that the standard bars are now too low and force my weight forward a tad more than is comfortable for me.

Will report when parts are fitted and evaluation done.

Hi Andy
Yes, I think the peg lowering kit is a better bet for you. I'm looking to get the Vario adjustable ones costing £80. They make them in different drop sizes, but are all on a cam system so that they can be also rotated to move them back or forward a little. I'll report back when I get mine, with an evaluation. You need to be aware that they might lead to decking out of course, but my knee-down days are long over.
Getting on with panniers might be more difficult than without. My tip would be to use the peg to stand on and then put your leg over. This will give you more control when you mount. I've done it for years as some of my bikes are really tall (KTM950Adventure S with a  39 inch seat height eg). It feels strange at first but you soon get used to it. Just make sure your stand is properly down and that you cover the front brake to prevent any forward movement.

I'm only 5'10''. The problem is age. I'm getting on for 60 and have stiff joints in the knee and hip, so normal riding position causes discomfort after only a few miles. The result would be a reluctance to ride often or for any distance. The mods will change that.

Sorry to hear that you're so disillusioned. I'd be interested in the seat if price is right and you'll post? pm would be good if possible.

Recently picked-up a rather lovely 98 (previous post) and am making a few mods for more comfortable ride for my ageing body. First one done, a re-upholstered seat to raise the ride height by 3 inches and thereby allow my legs a straighter profile (the more the bend the more uncomfortable for me). Folk asked for pictures, so here she is. Got it done locally for £35. Took the bike out today and am well pleased. Can still touch both feet down comfortably and perhaps surprisingly, it doesn't create extra buffeting from above the screen or change the handling characteristics from the slightly increased forward weight. I'll be adding 50mm Vario lowering pegs and then bar risers to compensate, then should be done.
Looks like a black slug  :rollin, but I don't care because it means I'll be more comfortable, for more rides, for longer  ;).
