No haven't replaced the fazer, still got another bike to ride, been looking at MT09 but not sure, theres two FZ8s in Jax York. I'm having a think about riding in a squad this year as still not fit. Just read that the "Harrogate Lads" father and son have got a 70 day ban and each been fined over a £1000 each for doing 110 mph. Unmarked police bike followed them, police said as the season starts they will be out after the speeders, it's a pitty the police didn't put a bit of effort into finding who split loads of deisel on the road when I came off, when I say loads there must have been gallons as I was told that I slid 50 to 70 feet before I hit the car coming towards me and I was still laid in diesel? there's a yard a mile up the road where they sell old plant and vehicals proberbly been one of those? but can't prove it.

QUOTE                   I heard of one guy welding them sprocket onto the sharft after his threads had stripped. Bit drastic.

who would do a thing like that............. me this was the second sprocket welded on the first one did 22,000 miles, the welding on the end of the shaft/nut is just to tack it on, the weld on the sprocket/nut is to stop it "chattering" on the splines, it doesn't matter now as I came off the bike due to diesel on the road and the bike was written off.

I don't know if any of you follow the drag bike racing but it's lost one of it's best female racers through illness at the age of 51.

I thought AJS/ Matchless as soon as I saw the "jam pots" AJS was sold in 1931 and was used Matchless and AMC which held other names like James, Francis Barnnett etc, AJS/Matchless were the same bikes with different tanks, seats, pipes etc.
I owned a few of the singles 250s 350s and 500s these went from £5 upwards in the 60's (a weeks wage when I started working age 15) I also had a 650cc twin in the 70s.

what I've found to work best is hot water washing up liquid applied by a female and a few cans of beer?

I agree with you but I think it's selective who will be charged, look what's been going on for years in Rotherham, what is the reason?

If all the persons who have had sex with someone below the age of 16 is sentenced to six years then we better get building alot more prisions?

If you push the piston fully in and wedge it, then open the bleed nipple and pump the old fluid out the way you bleed brakes but before it runs out top it up with new fluid keep bleeding till all the old fluid is expelled, this way you don't get any air in the system and can just use a bit of pipe.

looks like it's been finished with a foam paint roller, you would have to get the mix just right to match it, even then it would take some blending in, plaster overskim would be best, as already said?

Has anyone here made a claim on their own insurance for accident damage? how long did it take and who were you insured with?
I feel that nothing is being done on my claim unless I phone and ask what is happening, the last three calls are "waiting for engineers report"
Now I'm no engineer but just from the photo that the recovery firm emailed me and a check on suttons spares the parts alone come to over £3000. I'm hoping the value of the bike is £2225, this will leave 2k after excess.
I'm not in any hurry to replace the bike as it could be another 10 weeks before my shoulder blade mends the broken finger should be ok in another 2 to 4 weeks.
This is week 5 since the accident, what is your best or worst for pay out for your bike (not injuries and not claiming off third parties).
thanks.

thanks for all the replies but I think  what FRECK says is about right, I might get the report from the police I have to request it by writting to them ask if there were any other accidents there around the same time.
As I had the pot removed from my hand, I'll get the credit card out and go shopping for some more gear, still got another bike when I'm fit.

On a side note - you wrote off a car with your own body !  :eek

well I asked the woman who was driving the car if my bike had hit her car, she said she didn't think so all she rememberd was her abs was operating and I hit the front of her car and the airbags and seatbelt tensioners fired and her car was full of smoke and her wrists were very hot.
the medics and doctors were telling me how lucky I've been but for some reason I'm not feeling lucky (apart from I could have broke my back).

As some of you know a few weeks ago I came of my bike due to diesel on the road, I slid to the other side of the road and hit a car comming the other way.
The outcome of this is my bike is a write off, the car may be a write off as it was a 3 year old honda jazz and all the air bags fired.
My clothes were all cut off me , that's textile jacket and trousers, jeans, biker type top, 2 t shirts, helmet damaged, heated gloves have been lost, and boots have some damage to the left one.
I have a fractured little finger and fractured shoulder blade and soft tissue injurys to my left side.
I phoned carole nash up today to see how my claim was progressing, guess what nothing has been done as yet still waiting for engineers report, last week they said I would have it by (last) monday.
I asked if I could have some legal advice (as you get free legal cover) and was put through to the legal people?
I got to talk to a young lady and from the start things didn't go very well, I'm trying to explain what had happened but she didn't seem to know what diesel on the road does? anyway after she had spoken to her manager and asked me more pointless questions, I politley told her I would go elsewhere for advice, at the end of the day they are charging £300 to £400 an hour.
There are plenty of firms on the internet but what are my chances of getting anything? I recon that to replace my stuff the excess and loss of NCD will be £1000 do I just take the hit?
Have any of you been in this situation?

welcome, nice bike, as an old fart who's been biking since 1968 my advice is don't fall off it hurts and if you do fall off don't get hit by a car comming the other way it hurts even more and when you're over 60 you don't bounce like you used to do?

I would remove most of the jamb, maybe leave 100mm at each side to screw it down, then get some scaffold boards to make a ramp about 4 wide, batterns on the underside to keep them together and bed them on the gravel so the doors clear them, treat them with preservitive and they should last years. You can buy 2nds for around £1 a foot?

« on: 22 February 2016, 09:41:25 pm »
prices are 2k up to 2,900 for low mileage, I was thinking 2,250 would leave me with 2k after excess? trade in would be 700 to 1200 which is what I think they will start at, or I could tell them to find a replacement as I'm not in any rush, upto 14 weeks for shoulder to mend and still got another bike in garage?

General / book value?
« on: 22 February 2016, 03:44:02 pm »
Has anyone got a price guide? what I need to know is what is a fair payout when my bike is written off?
I can find bikes for sale at dealers but not with the mileage mine has done.
It's a FZ6N first reg. june 2006 with 45,600 miles on the clock. it is all standard except small fly screen, tyres were new 400 miles ago, and was in very good condition for year and mileage.
The price that should be offered is what I would have to pay to replace the bike from a reputable dealer.

a bit more info, the car was a Honda Jazz, if the bike didn't hit it then I must have hit it very hard to fire the airbags.

the next thing I remember was hitting the road, most of the damage to helmet is on the visor so was face down at some time, I was thinking I would stop sliding soon, which I did with a massive impact to my back, I had hit the car comming the other way, which is when I think I broke my shoulder blade, I spoke to the driver of this car today and she said it happened so fast all she remembers was braking hard, the ABS was operating then all the air bags and seatbelt tensioners fired and her car was full of smoke.

That looks like a seen form terminator.
what hit you?
[/quote
was on left hand bend doing around 50mph road was damp in places next thing  I had parted from the bike but I think both me and the bike were sommersalting down the road into oncomming traffic, Ive been told that a 4x4 managed to avoid me but the car behind didn't although it was nearly stationary when I hit it, I think I went into it backwards and thats what broke my shoulder blade.
the road was covered in diesel even though I had slid 50 to 70 feet. My daughter said that my riding gear or what was left of them reaked of diesel, I could smell it and thought that it looked like either blood and diesel or red diesel on the road, maybe the person who spilt it will come forward? I won't hold my breath not that I can with cracked ribs, lol.
