Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Exup system

If you can get a valve into the current downpipes you've got, then personally I'd have a nose to see if you can find a breaker that will sell you a valve, then it's just a matter of stick it on. Otherwise, there's a couple sets of downpipes on eBay at the moment you could cannibalise/stick onto your bike, whatever comes out easiest.
If anything, if you're not revvving the bike a lot then you'll actually notice the benefits of a valve even more, as they serve to boost torque at low to medium revs!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Bike Valuation
« on: 28 December 2012, 02:10:02 pm »
After a quick rough valuation for a Fazer 1k, so thought I'd pop it up here and see what you all thought:
05 Model in the red/black colour scheme, got 20k on the clocks.
Good condition, few extras including a scottoiler, tinted screen, scorpin exhaust, rad cover, crash bungs, fender extender and hugger.
Some service history, just had the big one. Chain and sprockets replaced recently, tyres look pretty good too.

So, what should I be looking to pay?

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted - FZS 1000
« on: 25 December 2012, 01:43:28 pm »
Just thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone was thinking of selling their FZS in the next couple weeks? I'm expecting an insurance cheque through for my stolen ninja so would be paying once that had cleared, although if the bike was the right price I might be able to just blast my overdraft and then replenish that with the cheque :).

Ideally, I'd love a red/black later model (with the black frame and swinger). Not too worried about slightly higher milages (30k ish) as long as the bikes been looked after. I'm also not at all worried about having to do any work to get the bike up to scratch, as long as the bikes priced cheap enough to take that into account (lots of cleaning, chain/sprockets, tyres etc etc)

I don't really mind if the bikes standard/modified really either, if the mods are things that I'd be wanting to do anyway (top box/panniers, decent shock, ivanising, etc etc) then I'd be prepared to pay more for it (as obviously it'd save me doing it later!

So anyway, anyone out there thinking of selling?

Oh and by the way, Merry Christmas all!

Looks good that. What yokes/stem did you use and have you got the igntion lock/steering stops working as they should? Just got to find a way of getting the matching rear wheel and I'd love to do that to mine when I buy one  :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Buying a FZS1000
« on: 23 December 2012, 09:09:50 pm »
Looking at buying an FZS, and was wondering if there was anything I should be looking for? As far as I can see throughout the model life span there wasn't a massive amount of difference, just the later ones had black painted engines and swingarms, and some didn't have a headlight switch? Anything else I've missed there?
Not really sure what I'm looking for price wise really either as there's a fair bit of variation. My preference would be for a black engined one as I feel they look a lot tidier, and I really like the black/red fading paintwork on the 05 (?) models - would also match my leathers then  :lol
There's a few though that are higher milage and pretty cheap, what are the engines like on these things for long life? There's a couple with about 30k miles, later black engined models that look pretty tidy for about £2300 ish, how's that sound? It's either that or go for a black/red one without 20k miles for £3000 ONO.

I'll be getting a test ride before I buy anything (or possibly because of my age my dad may have to) - is there anything FZS specifically related I should look for/test for before buying? I'm quite mechanically inclined so not too worried about having to do a little bit of work to a bike I should buy, if it were cost effective for me to do it.

Ta fellas,

Joe

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Braided Brake Lines
« on: 23 December 2012, 09:02:48 pm »
I bought the 3 line Hel kit for the front plus a single for the back (to be fitted soon) on the basis that it doesn't materially alter the braking systen as it's just a repacement of existing hoses whereas the 2 line direct system for the front counts as a brake mod and therefore should be notified to my insurer as a modification - I anticipated a rate hike if my insurer was told of a brake mod....... :\

Has anyonr put in the 2 line direct system & had a premium difference on that basis?

Personally I'd not worry remotely about that, they're still a replacement for the current system, just a different one - I did ask about braided hoses when I insured with Carole Nash last year and they didn't mind at all. That said they were very good for all my mods on my last bike, the only thing they were bothered about was if any of them increased the power by more than 10%, which nothing did :)

Introduction / Hi guys
« on: 23 December 2012, 08:58:08 pm »
Hi guys,

My names Joe, and I'm a 20 year old student studing Management & Finance at the university of Leicester. Been riding for 4 years now, and until about 3 weeks ago I was the very proud owner of a lovely red and black Kawasaki ZX9R E1 model. However some buggers nicked it, and so I'm now looking at getting another bike. Much as I loved the ninja it did miss some practical aspects, so I thought I'd have a nose at a FZS1000 (my uncles got one and loves it, and my dad owns the FZ1 and seems to like that as well).
Imagine you'll be getting a bunch of questions from me fairly soon about what I should be looking for/paying for one, so will speak to y'all more then  :)

Joe
