hi all,
have seen one video on yt of a fzs 1000 with 320mm discs and adapters for use with standard calipers and forks.Does anyone know whether it is possible to find and buy them?
And did anyone this mod here?

Here is the video of the bike with the adaptera and the 320 discs.https://youtu.be/cpLcFsVssR4
And some pics
Edit I am sorry, I just dont know how to attach the pic. It should be uploaded onto this page but it does not attach to this tread.

Any reason why you want to change to 320mm discs? It’s not a common mod so I suspect you will have difficulty finding the adapters - probably because the OEM brakes are already pretty good if well maintained.
-
two reasons are there for me. Personally, I like the look of the 320mm discs more and also I am looking for more stronger front brakes too. I just like strong brakes and am used to.My second bike has 320 rotors in standard, it is lighter too and I like braking very much.
I know this mod is not common for gen1, but it was quite common for first gen R1.
Several companies were saling adapters for this mode in the past, but I am strugling find a set now.

Tried the usual UK performance part makers some years ago (2015) but no one was interested, ended up going to a company in the USA, BrakeTech, who supplied a set of adaptors.
Just checked their website and the adaptors are no longer mentioned, might still be worth contacting them.
They weren't cheap even then $200 ex-works plus import duty.
-
Personally I am not convinced 320mm disks will give better braking performance. I think you would be better off giving your calipers and master cylinder a good service and some soft pads. Possibly a change to the master cylinder to give better pressure but as others have said the blue spot calipers give exceptional braking as it is .

I have contacted one italian company and it looks that they are still able to supply them, so I hope I will get them.
However, what discs did you use please? I dont know what discs to use.

I'm using 2003 R6 wheels and FZ1 (unknown year) discs with 6 bolt fixing. rather than the 5 bolt fixing found on Gen 1 wheels.

Not forgetting to mention 2000my R1 Forks

Yeah perfect. I am just about fitting 99 R1 forks. So the 2003 R6 front wheel should fit too. I will take a look on which year of FZ1 has discs with 6 bolt pattern.Dont you have any picture of your front end too?

I haven't got any recent close up pictures of the front end but have one from a few years ago(about 2017), it shows 310mm discs that came with the wheels. I have 320mm discs on the bike now.

thank you mate, really appreciate it. May I ask two questions?Do you use R6 rear wheel on your fazer too? Because the R6 front wheels has 5 spokes and the FZS has 3 spokes. And, did you have to use different spacers to fit the front wheel between wheel and the forks?
thank you
-
The Front wheel was a straight drop in with the fazer spindle and spacers.
The rear needs additional spacers on the disc side. Being the same rim size as a Gen1 the R6 rear wheel is easier to to work out what spacers are needed as the rim offsets to the swinging arm are common. You can use the fazer sprocket carrier and spacer.
I ended up using a FZ1 rear disc, much modified FZ1 ABS Caliper carrier, generic Yamaha sliding rear caliper and a machined spacer.

Repeat after me.................... I'm a f@(king idiot, I'm a f@(king idiot, :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes

[/size]Got my disc bolt numbers mixed up Gen1 6 Bolt , later bikes 5 Bolt

Thanks very much, very usefuk information and photos.
That would be perfect to fit r6 rear wheel too, 5 spoke wheels look much better and the r6 wheel is the same wide...Ok, so I am starting search for r6 wheels😁

I want all my mods to be reversable, others have welded on blocks to the swinging arms to use the brake caliper mounting bracket without modding it. I wanted to use the GEN1 torque arm, so the ABS bracket worked well
-
yes, the same on my side. I would like to have it reversable, just in case the bike would need to be stock.
Anyway, I have a luck this evening, I just found and purchased used 320mm brembo discs for R1 98-03 so for gen1 Fzs. So, just need to find adapters for stock adapters.
-
SBS makes bigger brake disks and adapters fro them aswell, I just contacted my parts shop to order them for me

Ok good information.Honestly, I received a package with 320mm brembo discs yesterday. They are used but looking to be in good condition.I found out who makes the adapters in Italy, so ordered them from fy Alth. Waiting for them now. I payed 180€ shipped for the adapters.
-
Sounds expensive 180 just for the adapters. Here are the links for the front brake discs, wich includes the adapters

I am not sure whether we mean the same adapters. I means adapters which holds front brake calipers and move them bit further and allows to fit 320mm discs
