This has probably been asked many times before but......
I need tyres, currently have Road Angel's fitted, which the bike came with. This is the first time I've had Pirelli's on a bike since the 80's when I had them on a GS1000 - they have changed a bit!!!!!
I "enjoy" fast A roads, not pushing but enjoying if you know what I mean.
The bike before the Thou, was a FJR1300 which had Metzler Z6's on - good tyres and would give consistent grip throughout the life. (Around 10K each pair)
So, suggestions please (not on a postcard), I fit my own so mail order will work.
I am tempted by Z6's - anyone had any experience with them?

Going on recommendations - PR2's ordered via link in thread - hope they arrive before next weekend, 'cos the following weekend got to go to a Hawaiian themed party in Weston - Super - Mare from Shropshire, via Stow on the Wold and could do with grippyness (if you get what I mean  :lol :lol )
I'll change the chain and sprockets at the same time  :rollin :rollin

Just fitted a set of Michelin Pilot Road 4s.  :)
My first time trying these, the Pilot Road 3s were very good and these are supposed to be better.  :D
I will let the forum know after a 1000 miles.

If you want to go Metezler go for the Z8

PR 2's went on on Saturday, along with a new chain and sprockets. Completely different bike  :D :D

Good in the dry but not the best. Absolutely shite in rain BBB. Save some pennies.

I used to run a BT014 sports front with a BT020 sports/tourer rear on my first Fireblade, must be 8 years ago. When I switched to 021's front & rear I cant say I missed the softer compound of the 014. You'll probably find them a false economy as they'll have nowhere near the life of a modern sports/tourer tyre and as Exupnut has said won't perform as well as modern rubber in the wet.

I thought I read someone else saying that, may try the PR2's or push for the roadsmart 2's or Angel ST's..

Pr2's always get a good write-up, the pr3's were a bit mediocre in the dry, but incredible in the wet.

Angel st are very good, the later ones even better. My bro-in-law has used them on his tricked up mille for ages, superb tyre wet and dry.

I think most modern S/T tyres are just as grippy in the dry as the older 'sports' tyres. They're also better in the wet, and last twice as long.
My last Rosso corsa's that came with the bike were virtually new lasted just over 1k!!!!! About £240 to replace
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

I must be in the minority here. I always hated Dunlops since the mid 90's. I was a big fan of Michelin 2CT's for winter riding and had another set of wheels with Supercorsas for summer riding.


When the Pilot Road 2 came in I bought a set for my 1000rr fireblade. Didnt rate them much for wet riding in Autumn / winter and then made the mistake of using them on a drying track at Brands where they overheated stupidly and turned blue.


I changed them for Bridgestone BT016's which were better than the PR2's but not much.


I have mates that will only have Pilot Road 3's / 4s though so perhaps they are better but to my mind Michelin lost the plot when they stopped making tyres for Moto GP.


Since then  I have had Pilot Pures on an RC8 which just confirmed that Michelin have lost their way and
almost in desperation, bought a set of Dunlop Sportsmarts for the Superduke. I am amazed, as a long time Dunlop hater, I really wanted to dislike these but every review said they were brilliant and they are  wet or dry, plus they seem hard wearing.


So when I need tyre for the Fazer I will be fitting Roadsmarts. Even if PR2's are 80 quid cheaper I wouldnt be tempted.

I've got roadsmarts on at the moment but didn't think they lasted too well but handled pretty good in the dry. I tend not to do too much in the wet unless I get caught out.I have heard and believe the roadsmart 2 is more than a bit better on handling and longevity.

With the winter just round the corner the mighty fazer thou will be stored up till the spring so plenty time for some maintenance and tyre choice.

That's the first time I've ever heard someone slate the PR2s. Interesting. Just goes to show, this tyre malarkey is all very subjective. Probably you push your tyres harder than I do, I only tend to potter about by comparison with some. Although they probably wouldn't be my choice for a Blade or track days.

i aint found a big name brand that i couild say were good i stick to me maxxis cheap and good enough for me but it is down to personal choice

Bridgestone T30's are the best all rounders that I have used.
