For Sale & Wanted / FZS600 parts
« on: 17 March 2013, 03:33:55 pm »
As my poor baby Fazer is a write off, I have a bunch of spares kicking around gathering dust. They were removed to make way for upgraded parts just weeks before the crash.
The parts are :
Standard Bars and / or bar weights
Front red mudguard ( drilled to accept a fender extender thing)
Standard steel pipes, a few rust spits but very good condition.
A rear panel in red, a few scuffs but a good replacement if yours is damaged.

I have no doubt got tonnes more but at the moment this is all I can find, I have a centre stand somewhere too.
Pictures to follow and any offers considered.
Collection preferred but I can arrange courier etc obviously.
Cheers all,
Ben

FZS600 Fazer / Re: My Crash at 60mph.
« on: 13 January 2013, 03:38:34 pm »
That was 40mph! I had literally no time to react! I hit him then a brick wall! Was k.o'd for a few minutes, had split my shin to the bone, had a severe haematoma of the knee (during my week in hospital, they were talking of amputation!) and am still suffering a concussion... This happened 10th October last year.  I'm can walk now. With a bit of a limo though lol.
It could no doubt have been worse, but ah well. Most annoying bit was I didn't get to my interview... Got the job though!

I found that the Fazer is the weakest link in a crash! This is mine after a collision with a tw@ van that pulled straight out!

On my Fazer it was, get up to 8,000rpm in 2nd, shut throttle dab front brake and crack her open letting off brake (do this very fast, so as to compress then decrompress forks) let the front rise on the throttle and find the centre of gravity. Cover the r brake and if you poop yourself shut off the throttle or dab the r brake.
It will hammer head bearings and chains etc. so be gentle ;)

Hi mate, by all accounts all bystanders etc thought I was a gonner! I've started the claim rolling, all gear will be replaced, even my signed lid ( signed by mcguinness , plater Camier and loads more). They're giving me a courtesy bike when I'm able, and are being great :)

Hi all!
I was knocked clean out on impact, flung under the van, slid over a road and slammed into a wall, narrowly missed by my bike (by about 10inches).
Got a severe concussion( I'm forgetting everything and everyone) a broken toe 6 inch cut to the bone on my shin and severe lower half bruising. All from 40mph! Big respect to the Nitro N1200 lid for protecting me, along with alpinestars gloves boots and jacket!
As for the side stand mate, that's in the other garage, I should be okay to get rid, as I took it off about 4 months before the crash :)
Now waiting to hear from insurance etc about where we go next. I am going to miss the old girl, 40000 miles old and she went this way:(

General / Re: What bikes have you owned/own now?
« on: 17 September 2012, 11:49:14 am »
My first ''bike'', was a moped a 2004 YN50 Yamaha Neo's in the Rossi Gauloisies coours, it was the only one ever made from the factory...
After that came my Honda CBR125R in Rossi Repsol Colours, I loved that thing, until it threw half the crank out of the side casings, then I replaced the engine and traded it in against my Beautiful Yellow Ducati 600 SS (1998 model), That thing was lovely, I rode it every day for two years until it finally went boom in traditional Ducati Fashion (i'd like to add it was properly maintained by Ducati dealers)
I also had my 1993 Ducati 750SS in red , mmm tasty with all the superlight exhausts and seat unit goes like Sh1t off a shiney hovel and sounds amazing!

I still own both Ducati's :)

And obviously, My good old FZS600 Fazer Y reg. the mule. amazing bike, great tourer, knee down weapon , and fantastic at embarrasing the gixxer brigade :)

They cut them down? surely that has the same effect as dropping the forks through the yokes? just a more permanent way of doing it?

FZS600 Fazer / FZS600 on a trackday. Any advice?
« on: 21 August 2012, 03:59:48 pm »
Hi all,

I have been lucky enough to get a place on the 'Bennetts Ultimate Track Day' with Cal Crutchlow, Scott Redding, James Toseland and Jamie Whitham at Oulton Park!

I fully intend to take my trusty little FZS600 Fazer (Y )reg , but as this is my first trackday, I am unsure what preparations, if any, I should make to the bike. So any help, advice or pointers would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your time and help,

Ben

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Upshifts
« on: 20 August 2012, 04:26:12 pm »
I only really use the clutch to set off and downshift, however I can downshift without the clutch if i just 'blip' the throttle as I do it. It has never made a clunk or crunch noise, so I am comfortable in doing it :)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Rear sets
« on: 21 July 2012, 12:44:02 am »
Hi

With the Ducati rearsets fitted have you pushed the bike off the centerstand.
I seem to recall the lever that you put your foot on when operating the centerstand with my mod fitted came quite close to the footrest
and the Ducati ones look a lot further back and may clash with the centerstand foot lever.

Hi,
To be honest with you, i took the centre stand off a couple of weeks back, as it ground out round corners. That said however, looking at where it used to sit and where the Ducati pegs fall, there is,or at least would be, more than adequate space between the centre stand and the new pegs.

When I get chance I will put pics up and complete the mini project, but things have gone a bit t*ts up my end atm, so the bike is taking a back seat.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Brake disc bolts
« on: 19 July 2012, 12:56:47 pm »
I use stainless bolts on all of my bikes, I just take the originals to my local engineering supplier, and they match them up. never had an issue.
I use the relevant threadlock where needed, or copper grease on bolts that hold for example the fairing on.

I would say, go for it, just ensure you use a good grade stainless, and use the correct torques :)

I will let you know, with pics... :) it hasn't been too hard making them fit.
I just now need to dig out my shift lever, as I much prefer 'race pattern' gear shift :)

FYI: these are what I am using, however it is possible that the ones designed for other yamahas may fit easier still? http://www.sesraceproducts.com/ducati-583-fixed-rear-set-rsd006-x-215-p.asp

just to add to this thread, I am in the process of adapting my SES rearsets from one of my Ducati's to fit the FZS. the bolt holes are only 2mm out, so a tiny amount of filing is needed :)  they may be an option for you too?

it's all good now! normal, 4 cylinder service has been resumed :)
I chopped a few mm off the end of the leads, and refitted the caps, and doused it all in silicone spray. Sorted!
Thanks guys!

FZS600 Fazer / Help! My Fazer wants to be a triple
« on: 06 July 2012, 11:21:12 pm »
Hi all, good evening.
My Fzs600 seems to want to be a triple cylinder bike lately...
With the recent torrential rain, and the use of the Fazer in such conditions, I have been experiencing a strange issue , whereby my bike drops a cylinder, and won't rev past 8k. When it does it I grab the clutch and rev the nuts off it, and it'll be find for about two mins. In the dry the bike is fine, it only has this issue when conditions are wet and the bike is wet...
Any ideas on where to look or what to do?
Thanks for your time,
Ben

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Cornering confusion...
« on: 26 June 2012, 09:57:05 pm »
Have got a160/60 rear, front is 120 as it makes the bike tip in easier and in the first few weeks of owning the bike I rode off the edge of the 110. All 3 of my bikes run a 120 as opposed to 110 due to this :) ah well, handles like a dream now and I love the Fazer once more!

Change the fork oil and play with fork height, I will be changing the springs in the very near future, and will update you on how that goes :)

Golly! I think I've cracked it!
Today I drained all the old fork oil out (it was filthy) and put in some 10wt as recommended by a friend of mine. I then dropped the forks a further 10 mm through the yokes and viola! It is now near perfect. Well as perfect as the old girl will be :)

Ill admit that it is exciting, but im no Valentino Rossi, and my fitness isn't a strong point, so I want it to be nice and easy to handle/ throw about/ thrash :)

Here's the tyres, first pic is the rear, second is the front.... think you'll agree they're scrubbed in pretty darn well lol

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Cornering confusion...

The tyres are only 200 miles old continental conti motion tyres, and pressures are as per the manual, so I sure hope it's not a tyre issue :) as for tyre temperature, the rear gets very warm, and the front gets slightly warm. One thing I have noted is tearing at the edges and wrinkling (like and old persons skin) in the middle...
