I was in my early 60’s when I sold my last two old British bikes. They were fine for the odd rockers run to the coast and regular Sunday runs with like minded souls, but I didn’t really enjoy the constant tinkering and jumble searches for parts. Regular visits to either the magneto man or the chronometric clock guy, used to empty my pockets quite regularly. I know a lot of people who really enjoy that side of ownership, but I really like to ride bikes, and so, as you mentioned, Japanese is the way to go, for reliability in the main, as well as a good turn of speed. Parts might be getting a bit more elusive, but there’s usually a way of solving problems. I missed out on early Japanese super bikes as children got in the way of that, but have certainly appreciated them.

Aah, you fell in to the old Werthers Originals stereotype trap. It was either going to be Werthers, or Fly Fishing by J.R.Hartley, so decided on Werthers, being more well known. Never ever eaten one by the way .

I found a new trick - we went to see two granddaughters on Friday. I promptly fell asleep in a comfy chair (I was knackered) and I could hear the occasional "Shhh, grampy's asleep"

It’s funny, when you can vaguely hear them being told not to wake you, it works out ok. However when you’re deeply asleep is when one of the little blighters spoils it all. Bloody grandkids eh….
