General / Neutral indicator light
« on: 13 September 2016, 11:24:28 am »
Since fitting the small led bulbs into my clocks, I have noticed the slightest of glows from the neutral warning lamp when the bike is n gear. The glow is very weak but nevertheless there. The light illuminates normally when in neutral.
I'm guessing the switch is allowing the smallest amount of current to pass.
Any thoughts other than the switch?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Start Button
« on: 16 August 2016, 09:59:46 am »
I am wondering if the contacts on my start button need a clean. I have noticed on two occasions nothing happens when pressed. It then sprung to life on second attempt.

Never taken this apart before....will it spring into a million pieces all over the garage floor if I attempt to clean it and is there anything in there that would benefit from a look at?

General / Ignition key barrel maintenance?
« on: 01 August 2016, 05:07:56 pm »
So....clever folk of the forum.....is it a good maintenance policy to spray WD40, or contact cleaner, or nothing at all down the key barrel once in a while?

General / Phone Charging on the go
« on: 14 May 2016, 12:30:26 am »
Does anyone charge their phone while travelling?... Looking for ideas, could just carry a USB power pack and charge in pocket. Alternatively charge under the seat from a 12v socket I have but concerned about vibration on the phone.
Any ideas?

General / Motor insurance experts?
« on: 11 April 2016, 10:55:11 am »
Ok foccers fountain of knowledge...
My wife's car was hit last summer whilst unoccupied and repairs were fully funded by the third parties insurance. Now we come to renew our policy the price goes up because of this incident. She has kept her max no claims bonus.
Surely this increase is an uninsured loss as we will have to declare this for 5 years. I have spoken to the other drivers insurance company who don't consider this to be an uninsured loss. Over 5 years it has potential to be a few hundred pounds.
Thoughts???

General / Car oil?
« on: 01 January 2016, 10:39:48 am »
I know some will sceam in horror...but I understand that some use car oil in their bikes because of the 'rip off' bike oil prices.
With that in mind I have looked at different oils but generally they appear to be suitable for petrol and diesel engines which is a reason not to use and also any oil with 'friction modifiers'
So the question is what brands are you using that don't contain additives or diesel suitability?

HNY everyone!

General / Motobatt Failures?
« on: 20 December 2015, 12:52:23 pm »
Anyone else had any failures on their Motobatt battery? I'm suspecting mine has failed . Under load the bike won't start. I  just get a buzzing noise. It's on charge at the moment on a different charger to see what voltage I can get in it.
Bought in April 13 from Busters so will have done about 10k miles.

General / Thoughts on Jumpstarting??
« on: 19 November 2015, 06:03:59 pm »
Bluecol do a car to car jumpstart thing that feeds into the cigar lighter of donor and recipient vehicle and after a few minutes has allegedly put enough charge into the battery to allow it to start...I've seen them in asda for about £15 I recall, and a bit cheaper online.
I've also seen tablet size batteries with crocodile clips that simply clip onto car or bike batteries and away you go....these seem to be around £30 upwards. (good for keeping in glovebox?)
Anyone used either?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Phone Charging 'On the Go'
« on: 24 September 2015, 06:25:30 pm »
Just come back from a few days in Cornwall (long way back ) but got to wondering about phone charging whilst on the road. I have a cigarette lighter socket under the seat and one on the fairing infill.....but where to put the phone? Started thinking about a supply into the Givi back box but not wanting to drill into it.
So what do you do?

General / Insurance experts?
« on: 11 July 2015, 02:42:29 pm »
Without saying too much on line...our car was hit whilst unattended and the culprit has admitted everything. Progressing matters through their insurance including hire car etc.
What concerns me is for the next 5 years we will have to declare a claim and whist we have been assured our no claims will be unaffected it doesn't stop the base premium being increased.
We also now have a car that presumably will be recorded as having a cat d repair which will reduce its value on the second hand market.
So am I faced with 5 years declaring an accident that could be affecting all my policies including the Fazer and can I claim against this hidden loss?

General / Car brakes
« on: 20 June 2015, 11:52:25 am »
Struggling to get my car front brakes balanced for not. The piston is free and the sliders are lubed. Car drives fine and tester says they are OK under light braking but harder braking takes them out of tolerance. Reading around 380 on one side and 320 other.
These are disc brakes on my vw. Problem is I can't check if I've sorted it without going back on rolling road.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Hesitation?
« on: 06 March 2015, 08:54:21 pm »
Last time I was out, in the cold, I felt there was a bit of hesitation under hard acceleration so a springtime mission was to check carb balance (I have carbtune) check TPS check exup etc. The bike is not ivanised.......but it is blue (before someone asks).
I did the trimming of the plug leads last season, as well as new plugs.
Anything else to check and what order should the above checks be done?

All replies appreciated.....even the sarcastic ones!

Looking for something sub £100 as a lid for daughter that goes out two or three times a year.
I know all the arguments of getting what you pay for and the value of your head etc etc but wonder about something like HJC CS14 at around £75....not sure about ratchet fasteners..always liked double d straps.
Any thoughts guys?
