Can't believe Christmas is nearly upon us again....and can't believe I've had the fazer over 11 years now. Hardly been used this last 12 months but that can change quickly.
Have a great Christmas everyone.... :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Valve clearance tollerance
« on: 14 August 2019, 02:15:44 PM »
Boys
I recall reading on here that the valve clearance specified in Haynes is not correct.
Could someone please confirm the required tolerances? My fzs1000 is 2004 5lv engine.
After much deliberation I have booked my bike into an independent for this task.

Hugs and kisses.... :lol

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Valve check and coolant pipes
« on: 07 May 2019, 11:19:31 AM »
Guys
Has anyone got a link to a good 'how to' guide to check the valve clearances?
I have removed the ais several years ago so hoping this makes things a little easier.
Will I need a new gasket (no bike dealers within 20 miles so will have to prepare for this surgery).
Also, coolant pipes into rocker cover looks like it could do with a look at a wire brush! Does this simply remove from the rocker cover and is it better to replace this item? Again, are gaskets required?
Any comments appreciated 😂

General / How old is your lid?
« on: 20 February 2019, 09:42:46 AM »
Ok, I know all the arguments about how much to spend on a lid and valuing your head etc etc, but my lid is now about 5 years old but infrequently used.
So, I wonder how old yours is?

General / Advice on car engine issue?
« on: 11 June 2018, 09:32:49 AM »
Guys...thoughts on this would be appreciated....
My DD has a two year old astra 1 litre petrol, about 35k on the clock. It's started showing engine management light and after scanning with Bluetooth sensor and torque app shows code p0303 which is engine misfire on cylinder 3. I have swapped plug and coil pack with cylinder 1 but fault code remains unchanged so I'm thinking possible injector issue??
Is it likely that redex would clear it or is there something better? I know she uses supermarket fuel and does run the tank low :(
Any other thoughts??

General / Tips for long distance comfort
« on: 01 June 2018, 07:44:41 PM »
So, yesterday I rode back from Campbeltown on the Mull of Kintyre to my home on the Yorkshire coast. About 350 miles over 11 hours as I took the scenic route.
Much as I love my fazer I do have an issue with comfort on a long haul...admitidly it would probably be he same on any bike after that duration.
I have tried putting different foam in the seat and that has helped.
So what is the secret to comfort on long trips? Share your secrets here.....

General / Irish Car Parts Traders
« on: 11 February 2018, 06:13:41 PM »
I've been looking at replacing the auxiliary drive belt on my wife's car and am beginning to notice a pattern of auto car parts sellers based in Ireland regularly being significantly cheaper than UK sellers.... usually offering free postage.
I'm happy to buy wherever gives a good deal but wonder why these sellers are becoming so competitive? Of course I want genuine parts as described....don't we all...
Any thoughts guys?

General / What made you feel good today?
« on: 04 February 2018, 06:36:13 PM »
OK, I know we can be a pack of miserable foccers but today I feel good because I went out in the cold and bled my car brakes.... What's so good about that you ask?....well I thought I needed to fit a new servo or master cylinder which would have been a complete pita.
So, feeling good.
What made you feel good today?..(not expecting a busy thread!)
Come on guys... pretend to be happy...

General / Car battery experts??
« on: 29 January 2018, 07:01:33 PM »
So I recently took delivery of a nice new car battery for the family cage...but upon inspection found it had leaked through the vent during delivery. The vendor is replacing it foc but I can't help but think it is too good to chuck.
Not knowing how much acid is lost and from how many cells, can I test it anyhow??..or do I put t on the car and see what happens?
Seems so wrong to simply bin it.....what would you do?

General / Battery Drain
« on: 23 January 2018, 09:47:45 AM »
So, today, if time permits I intend to try and find the cause of my battery drain. The battery was new last year and seems to hold its charge well when on the bench.
Attached to the bike it drains much quicker. The bike is standard electrically apart from a 12v socket on the fairing infill and a double usb socket on the handlebars. Both those are wired directly to and from the battery.
Just wondering if anyone has found any other causes of battery drain on our fzs1000's?

General / Bike Insurance Cancelled!
« on: 06 July 2017, 09:45:24 PM »
Anyone had this before?...just received an email advising that bike Insurance would be cancelled in one week with no reason why in the email. I went to a link it sent me which was a letter they have posted to me where it says last insurers have failed to issue proof of NCB.
I have proof from last insurers but no-one has asked me for it!
Not sure who are the biggest toss3rs...last insurers or new ones?
Will I now have to declare having an insurance cancelled?

General / DIY Wheel Balancing
« on: 21 June 2017, 07:12:03 AM »
Anyone tried balancing their wheels at home? Was it a success or a waste of time?
I don't have a static balancing machine but videos on YouTube suggest it can be done without one so I am interested to try it....unless the experience on here suggests otherwise.

General / Tony Archer Seats
« on: 30 May 2017, 12:07:26 AM »
Anyone used his services recently? Was thinking of giving him a call....what sort of money we talking?...is it better to take the bike and let him see you sat on it?...or better to just post the seat to him for his miracle working?

General / Heading to France?
« on: 01 February 2017, 10:51:42 PM »
Not sure if it's been covered here but I understand from another forum that vehicles, including bikes, will shortly require an emissions sticker for entry to Paris Lyon and Grenoble! Not got all the details but RAC website assists.
Just a heads up for those traveling abroad 😊

General / How come?
« on: 31 January 2017, 10:03:37 AM »
How come I can buy a box of 100 fuses in a nice plastic divided box, and get them shipped all the way from China for £2.50 when just two of the same fuses on a piece of card cost £1.89 in halfords???

General / OK Foccers...Gardening questions for a change!
« on: 26 November 2016, 01:43:29 PM »
Foccers fountain of knowledge being tested again....
The soil in our garden is clayey topsoil about 8 inches thick overlaying solid orange clay. The topsoil holds water in the top couple of inches....it doesn't drain vertically or down the slight slope of the garden.
I know I need to improve the soil structure with organic material to get it to drain. So the fist question is any experience of electric or petrol rotovators? I don't want to spend a fortune because that means less on the nice things in life!
Also reading about adding gypsum to the soil as a dressing as it improves the structure of the clay to aid drainage.....anyone done this? I'm learning that builders plaster is essentially gypsum and about a quarter of the price of agricultural gypsum at garden centres!!
I have already dug some drains but need to get the water travelling within the soil to reach the drains.
The area of lawn is around 10 x 5 m

So..... thoughts please.

General / Driving over the Alps
« on: 27 September 2016, 10:34:48 AM »
Anyone with any experience of taking a car over the Alps as we go from autumn towards winter?
I may need to drive down to Italy in the next two to three weeks and wonder what sort of conditions to expect. The car will have normal summer tyres on.
When does it start to get dodgy on these high routes?
