Never done it myself, but may I sugest to get some assitance and as sugested above, a three foot bar on the socket, wheel the bike up to a wall, put it in top gear and try then, you may need to sit on the bike and hold the brake on if the wheel turns. If you were local, (Chelmsford) I'd happily give you a hand.

Bought a Goretex reinforced suit by Richa 2 or 3 years ago, has 2 inner romoveable layers, it's nice and warm but didn't stay waterproof very long.

Each to his own opinion I know, but I think they are a pain in the butt, going off at the most inconvenient times, and flattening the battery. I paid good money to have one removed when I bought my Fazer and certainly wouldn't want another! I have a secure garage and a U lock that I carry with me.

Have a look at this, it's what I'm thinking of doing when my garage warms up a bit.

Has anyone any idea what the built in error amounts to, I shouldn't think it's anything worth bothering about as the speedo can't be read that accurately anyway, especially in sunlight. Bet Mike can hardly read his at all!

« on: 02 December 2011, 07:57:17 pm »
Of course OMF is correct as far as the manufacturers and retailers are concerned, (they would say that wouldn't they?) but lodgically as the rear sprocket only does about a third of the work of the front one, you could get away with changing that one every other time. But this isn't helping Fazer6868, sorry about that, without seeing any of it, I am still suspicious of his chain.

I have no experience at all of your high mileages, but from an engineers view, first of all are the sprockets in line? Are the teeth showing signs of wear, you must by now be familiar with what to look for there? So if the chain is running in line (the sides of the sprockets look OK?), and you don't have a lubrication problem, there again you should know with your previous experience, you can only have a naff chain.

Hi All, having bin there and dun that, I'd just like to endorse what Falcon 269 Mike says, (OK, I know he's done dozens more than I have, but as it can go wrong, it's worth endorsing) it's important to ensure that that taper tap is VERTICAL by the time it's two threads in. Find yourself a short straight edge, and make sure it is, it far lessens the chance of a broken tap.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: gen 1 engine size
« on: 24 November 2011, 07:24:42 pm »
How on earth do you find a "size" for an engine? Surely you need engineering drawings to compare (if anyone has such things) or be asking if anyone else has done it or tried it already. I would have thought a far simpler and quicker solution would be to sell it and buy a thou. Best wishes with whatever you decide.

Only one slight minus I found is that it's a bit harder on the top of the boot on upward changes, but I'm not changing it back!

That looks how mine was when I fitted it nearly a year ago. First thing, when you fit the bolt to clamp the splined shaft you will find some endfloat, so ensure it is as far along the spline as it will go. second, that foul point that you see is just on the corner of the frame where you see it (it doesn't foul all the way through) so with a Dremel, I just took a little off that corner (with one of those emery band things)to give it clearance. :)

"Where are you based?" Good question. Why doesn't the forum give this information in our details, would anyone object, it could always be witheld by those who do? I wouldn't mind the world knowing I'm from Chelmsford.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Help Needed for meta 357 alarm removal please
« on: 06 November 2011, 11:14:44 pm »
Hi, someone told me you only need to untape the loom from where the alarm's wires enter it, to where they join the bike's wiring, cut the connections and rejoin them, sounds so simple doesn't it? After I'd cut the wires to free the alarm, I only got as far as untaping the rear half of the loom, I found the alarm wiring went in so deep, and I'd made myself such a mess, I gave up and called in a proffesional alarm fitter to sort it out. He didn't untape it any further, he just traced the wires to where they went (the clever bit) reconnected (soldered) them, retaped them, job done. I don't know where you are, but the man who helped me, (came to my home, 50 mls.) was Pete, the owner I believe of     http://www.mhss1st.co.uk/about_us.htm good luck with it.
