New Fazer 1000 owner - forks and yokes question
« on: 09 May 2014, 10:16:15 am »
Stupid here. After picking up a VGC gen 1 FZ1, I managed to drop it turning right across a dual carriageway in a hurry.

My excuses are as follows - cold tyres, small gap and my throttle control isn't perfect due to a wrist injury sustained shortly after recently going over the bonnet of a van at 40mph, which wrote my old bike off.

Anyway, the Fazer was miraculously unscathed apart from the bar end being chewed up and the handlebars being slightly bent and out of alignment with the front wheel.

To fix the alignment, I slackened all the clamps off on the yokes, together with the handlebar clamps, and pushed everything down several times. That seemed to work pretty well but I managed to push one of the forks about 2cm through the top yoke, and it doesn't seem to want to go down again.

Tried pulling the front of the bike up by the bars, with my foot on the front wheel, with everything slackened off again, but nothing. Am I missing something?

Oddly. the bike seems to ride fine like this but I'm sure it can't be healthy. Any suggestions appreciated!

Ta, Chris in Cheshire.

PS will be posting wanted ad for new bars shortly, either standard or lower aftermarket ones.

Looks good - standard I take it and how much are you asking for them?

If they're straight and the bar ends aren't badly scuffed that's fine mate. I'll send you a direct message and take it from there ta.

Stick the bike on the centre stand and see if the leg go down while twisting it with your hands.  Failing that try tapping down with a wood block and hammer/mallet
Intentionally left blank

Thanks for that - in the end I had to weigh down the back end (with the bike on centre stand) to get the front wheel off the ground completelly, then a little bit of wiggling of the fork leg sorted it.

Rides fine now but think the handlebar clamps are a bit bent - will be easier to tell when I get some straight bars on it.
