Hi Mike
I certainly would like to get my bike Ivanised in your Bristol location - I live in Swindon just down the M4.  I have a 4 degree ignition advancer in mined - do I need to re-instal the standard one either before or after?

If this is  a real garage why is it not

A) Full of randomly stored junk
B) Untidy with randomly distributed tools

or is that just my garage.......

Finally managed to get out on the fazer after fitting the 4 deg advance mod.  Have to say it seems more 'willing' also seem to have a smoother power delivery too, also had to adjust the idle after I came back home as it seemed to idle at almost 1400 rpm when previously it was idling at 1100rpm so I'm presuming it's making more efficient use of the fuel too. Looking forward to finding that out!

Hi VNA i thought the comment about defending the right to say something even though one may detest it was actually from Voltaire who was definitely male.....but I'm happy to have any mistake corrected....

I tend to agree and in any case it's not illegal to offend people or be rude about people the last time i looked whereas incitements to action are ........as far as I'm concerned thre should never be thought or opinion 'crimes'.......we're all entitled to our own thoughts opinions and prejudices but we should draw the line at incitements to malicious action based on hatred...

Somone else summed it up better than I could when he said 'I detest what you say but I defend to the death your RIGHT to say it'

Brought back great meemories - I'm old and knackered enough to have been at Silverstone for that epic race and to this day i agree ith Murray Walker it was the most tense and exciting race I've ever seen ,the atmosphere was just incredible.....a real high point!  Sheene and Roberts always lit the place up whenever they appeared whether on 750s or 500s.......they called it as they saw it definitely NOT PR dummies saying all the right things......Bye Barry - you're truly missed.

Thanks for the link NSR.....  Haven't had the chance to ride it with the 4deg advance in it yet but have started it - seems to be smoother & early rev range 'pick up' seems better - looking forward to the ice clearing and taking it out....here's hoping that it's not too long!

I've fitted an ignition advancer (boy that bolt was TIGHT) and of course the gasket didn't come off cleanly....I looked on the WEMOTO site which is usually ok for Fazer stuff but no joy there.....any other sources or is it worth using some instant liquid gasket?    Thanks

Yes I do the basic maintenance stuff myself (oil filters plugs etc) so it's the specific of what may be a 'wasted' spend of hundreds of pounds that irks me.  Do I like the bike - yes I do and basically for an 02 it's  in good shape and has low miles on it and it's been good to ride (second one I've had) I'm pleased with it and I know that the decision to buy or sell doesn't hinge on just this one issue but I was brought up not to waste money and paying hundreds to be told yes it's fine and doesn't need anything just p****s me off!  I'll probably hang on to it for another 20k and take another view then......there that seems to have sorted it in my mind - thanks all for crystallising it in my mind
Merry Xmas & a prosperous and healthy new year to you all!

Well perhaps engaging in debates about Scotland in a forum will make those long winter evenings just fly by!!

Winter is a time to look for a place in the sun for a week or two as far as I'm concerned.  Have been to the Canaries and Madiera a couple of times each (both warm and dry with Tapas and Vino) I'd like a change and was wondering about Rhodes or Crete or Malta anyone had any winter hol experiences there?

I understand that the valve clearances at the first check at 24k miles often show that no change is necessary so if that's the case (and I do understand that this may not be a cast iron thing for all fazers) it's a dubious spend for a machine that in my case cost 3k when I bought it.......I guess that the key thing is you'll never know whether you need it until you have it done in which case you've spent it anyway - bummer!

I have always tried to separate the consideration of machine value and servicing costs.  If your bike is a good'un then keep it so by looking after it.  Besides, the point of servicing is to keep the bike running well so that it is safe and enjoyable to ride.  Bikes will depreciate in value (or most will at least) with age but does that mean that it is any less of a bike.  ie Would you only spend on servicing while there is a high residual value in the bike?  No, it doesn't make sense.
My thinking is that if the bike is worth say 3k and this check  will cost me 500 I might be better off selling it as paying 1/6th of its original value on 1 sevice doesn't seem economic in comparison toliquidating the value and buying something that doesn't (yet) need that level of expenditure - the 'economic man' in me coming out I think! Hoever the anecdotal evidence seems to say that as long as oil and filters are looked after the valves seem to look after themselves.......at 3k v 500 I think I might take the risk.

Hmmm....didn't mean to touch a raw nerve but ok I understand that a substantial MINORITY of the people of Scotland feel that they want separation of their part of the UK but in fairness the Celtic parts of the UK have far more autonomy than the Anglo Saxon bits already -  there is no English Parliament at all so perhaps we should  be looking at a Federal Uk with a shared head of state (unfortunately not elected - yet!) with a federal national assembly or parliament in an indissoluble union.  I always felt uncomfortable that only slightly over HALF of some 5 million or so out of 60 million could decide to end the UK as an entity and that doesn't particularly look like democracy at its best to me - perhaps the Devo Max option is a way ahead that could be good for everyone?.
In any I certainly value what Scotland and the Scots bring to the nation as a whole so I hope that Alex Salmonds ploy of having Scottish votes for English laws as a way of furthering the separatist agenda (as per todays concise i Independent seems to imply) doesn't set us one against another.  I think we've achieved so much together that to give it all away for a narrower perhaps more 'tribal' view of life serves no one well...

And I said I wasn't going to get drawn into debates as they seldom change views!! - so this is my last word on the subject as i've no wish to rub anyone up the wrong way or offend even unintentionally - its just that I value our nation as it is - but it could stand some change to make it even better!

I'm not usually bothered by 'political' elements in threads as the last time anyone mind was changed by logical discussion was about never, we seem to have a view then look for evidence to support it and I think we all fall into that trap.....

However the level of almost hate of  the English in some quarters during the recent Scottish referendum with demonstration outside BBC studios because they dared to ask Alex Salmond question he didn'tlike/couldn't anwer had some pretty nasty undertones and I don't see Nicola Sturgeon saying that oil will solve all of Scotlands problems at $60 a barrel (BBC talks about the oil industry in scotland having all investment programmes cancelled as $60 p barrel make them all uneconomic and will result in thousands of job losses) the silence from NS is deafening......

Now is the time (I'd have thought) for the pro unionists to reinforce their view that we are all better off together - I certainly think (along with many others both in Scotland and the rest of the Nation) that the UK is greater than the sum of its parts and I seem to have liked most of the Scots that I've met - even the drunk Rugby fans (Have to say I was almost as tanked as they were!)  I think of us all  as British citizens with individual HISTORICAL heritages.  We've achieved far more togeher than we could have separately ask Napoleon, Kaiser Wilhelm,  Hitler etc as well as looking at the map of the English speaking world...    Well that's me done hope i haven't upset too many people - not my intention

Merry Xmas to all of us in the UK and to all discerning Fazer riders everywhere around the world !!
