Hi people, I’m planning on installing 2 10watt LED running lights to my Gen 1 thou. I’ve read various threads on the forum regarding wiring. Some use a relay and a switch and some go straight from the battery. I’m wondering if I splice into my headlight dipped beam wire with both spotlights and then earth, (doing away with the need for a switch or relay) will I need to uprate the fuse for the lighting circuit? They are only 10w LED’s and although very bright I don’t think they draw much current.

Hi all, for those of us with a Gen 1 thou, the Certificate of conformity from Yamaha needed to exempt us from paying the ULEZ charge in London has now gone up from £60 to £75! Still cheaper than a garage test though. I applied for mine yesterday. A mate of mine recently got one for his Honda and his was free.

A couple of years ago I put a set of 2002 (RPW) R1 upside down forks on my old ‘03 Fazer thou. I now have a leaky fork seal so will be replacing them both very soon. But my question is what weight oil have others used when changing their fork oil with the Fazer/R1 set up?

Cheers B1k3rdude, I’m now back on the road thanks to Trebus offering me his spare front wheel at a good price, so haven’t gone down the brand new route. However if the council are paying for the repairs then I will defo be going down the “brand new” route, I’m already out of pocket for no other fault than theirs, so why shouldn’t they pay the full price? I’ve had no bike for work for nearly a week so had to take the wife’s car, what a nightmare that is, driving up and down into London in the rush hour. So fuck em, if they’re paying, I’m going brand new. Could’ve been a lot worse than just a wheel & tyre......

Hi people, I’m looking for a front wheel for my 03 Fazer thou. I was unfortunate enough to hit a massive pothole (more like a crater) on my way home from work yesterday and I’ve bent the front wheel rim and torn the tyre. I’ve spoken to the Highways Agency who said that “if I qualify” for a claim, they have 15 days to respond. Then they said I have to pay out for the parts which I then claim back from them afterwards. So I need a wheel for the short term, then I’m gonna go for a brand new one from Yamaha at £720, plus bearings, plus a tyre. I’ve attached pics of the pothole and my wheel. If anyone’s travelling on the A2 from London and comes off at Junction 1 for Rochester & Strood then be careful, I drove past in the car yesterday to get pics, I can’t believe how big & deep it actually is. If anyone has a wheel thats straight (not bothered about bearings, I’ll re use mine short term) and I can buy please let me know, I’m in Rainham Kent, so can collect if fairly local as I’d imagine postage would be horrendous for something that size & weight! Cheers Jon

I hope it’s just the NOx figures they’re after then, or we could all be doomed......!!

I’ve put the 2002 5PW front end on mine, no clearance issues at all.

Good find there Stinka, excellent videos. I particularly like the one showing the water pump installation, something which crops up on here from time to time.

Hi people, this is a copy of the reply I got from TFL.
Thank you for your enquiry received on 01 February 2019, regarding the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). If you believe that any information provided by our checker is incorrect, on receipt of evidence of the vehicles Euro standard, we would investigate further and where necessary amend our records to reflect the correct status of your vehicle. In order to investigate compliance status of your vehicle we advise you to provide us with vehicle registration document (V5C) that contains the Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) value and Particulate matter (PM) value (if diesel), we can confirm the compliance status of your vehicle. Please check that the NOx and if applicable the PM value is recorded on the V5c, usually these are detailed in sections V.3 and V.5 respectively. If these values are not recorded on the V5c you will need to provide a copy of the vehicle's Conformity Certificate which you can obtain from the vehicle manufacturer. Alternatively you may wish to contact the vehicle manufacturer's homologation department. They will need to provide you with a letter signed by a named individual from the homologation department which contains the following information (a letter from customer services or a dealer will not be accepted): - Vehicle registration mark (VRM) - Vehicle identification number (VIN) - Euro standard the vehicle was manufactured to - Fuel Type - Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) value and - Particulate matter (PM) value (if diesel) You can complete an online enquiry form and upload your proof at tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone. If you have any questions, please visit tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone or call us on 0343 222 2222 (textphone 0207 649 9123 if you have impaired hearing). Yours sincerely D. Milton

That’s excellent news, I had visions of having to sell the old Fazer, but now it appears I can keep her! Nice work, thanks for letting us know

No its not cracked, the oil seems to start appearing on the joint where the grey sealer is between the casings. I'm keeping an eye on it, its not pouring out but I don't want it to get worse.

Looks good. What's involved in a R1 USD front end swap please? Considering either this or a front fork rebuild / damper revalve. Ta.
There’s a fz1 forum with all the info from Mike on doing the R1 front end conversion, I did mine a year or so ago, the hardest part was trying to find someone to make up the spacers for the R1 yokes..... worth doing though, it’s transformed the way the bike looks and handles.

You can’t see the oil leak on the sealer here but this is the area and you can see some oil misting......

Hi all, I was cleaning behind the headers earlier (Gen 1) and spotted what looks like oil that has been misting out from between where the 2 crankcase halves are joined horizontally with the grey sealer. Was hoping it might be coolant but it definitely seems like oil. Anyone else had something similar? Looks like it could be a pig of a job to fix.

This is strange. Just got back from the Isle of Man, bike not missed a beat once. Pulled over for a break and after about 10 mins I noticed a brown oily petrol mix seeping out of carb no2 running down onto the generator cover. I rode another 300 odd miles since then, turning the fuel off every time I stopped (which was annoying). I've just taken the carbs off and found the float bowl rubber gasket split on no2 carb but, carbs are clean inside! So what was the brown stuff?? It felt like oil, so now confused!!

I had a Gen 1, sold that and got the Gen 2, 2012 model. Very quick, handle well look nice, but for me I was never 100% happy with the fuelling and throttle response, spent quite a bit in an attempt to smooth it out which it did to an extent but as I said I wasn't 100% happy with it. Gone back to a Gen 1 and I'm happy. I'm sure others are extremely happy with their Gen 2's but for me, spending the best part of 9 grand on a brand new bike and then having to spend even more trying to smooth it out started to piss me off. I didn't really notice it initially on the first test ride, but hey I was all excited and smitten with it! As others have said in this thread, go for a decent test ride and make up your own mind! Good luck, enjoy!
