FZ6 / Fazer / BoosterPlug
« on: 13 July 2022, 10:40:37 am »
To anyone thinking of going down the BoosterPlug route....read on.

I watched AndyManCam's YouTube video where he installed one on his FZ1 and thought I'd try and find one for the FZ6. Well, it turns out that they are £129 a go brand new.....but the internal gubbins on all models appears to be the same. Just the plugs at the ends are different for each motorcycle model.

So, my solution isn't quite plug'n'play but very close.

I picked up a BoosterPlug off Marketplace for £60 and then grabbed some no-strip wire connectors off Amazon for £8 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07DK7HBKR

It is as simple as it sounds - cut the female plug off the BoosterPlug (with a good 8cm of wire attached) and attach a connector at each cut end. Cut the female plug off the AIT sensor and swap 'em over whilst keeping the wire colours in the right orientation.

Works a treat! Much smoother acceleration and less jerkiness when opening up the throttle from idle in 2nd gear.

Still got half a tank of fuel so I'll fill up at some point and log the mileage for that full tank on Fuelly and see if mpg changes. By all accounts it doesn't change at all, but I'll find out for myself.

FZ6 / Fazer / CTEK USB
« on: 15 May 2022, 08:44:29 am »
I am a big fan of the CTEK battery chargers and conditioners and use them on my RX8s. The 231hp model particularly dislikes its battery going flat and as I have only one on the road at a time it makes sense to keep the other one on charge. The CTEK 'Comfort Cable' is a doddle to use and very convenient.

I stuck one on the FZ6 and reconditioned the battery and keep it on charge until that wonderful day when I pass the Mod 2 arrives. There are now three items attached to the terminals and so I have ordered longer terminal bolts but want a USB port as well. So, with a bit of cutting, soldering and heat shrinking I've combined these two items to create a bespoke USB charger that simply plugs into the CTEK Comfort plug.

FZ6 / Fazer / MT-07 Push Lever Assembly
« on: 08 May 2022, 03:16:49 pm »
Just been looking around and the well-known mini-mod of popping the MT-07 clutch push lever assembly on an FZ6 is on my radar. The part number is 1WS-16340-00 and is £32.58 from Fowler Parts. However, the same part for the Tracer 700 looks identical - part number BU3-E6340-00 and is £21.14 from Fowler Parts.

Can anyone confirm that these two parts are indeed identical?

Introduction / New Suffolker

Thought I'd get on this forum and try and learn from those far more experienced than me. YouTube has been my friend up until now....

Just gone back on two wheels after 35 years away and looking to do DAS in the next few weeks and grab a decent FZ6 S2 - not necessarily in that order. Had DT50MX and DT125LC back in the mid-to-late 80s but never progressed any further as I passed my driving test. Currently driving two Mazda RX8s (long story - I like pain) and being crippled more than usual by the price of fuel plus 18mpg. So did CBT, hopped on a Honda and doing 200 miles a week in town and around villages, and enjoying a fuel bill of £15 rather than £95.

Anyway, I've seen a fair few FZ6 for sale and have done a ton of reading around the subject. I am hoping that a member of this club is as picky about their own machine as I am about my RX8s and might be looking to sell their bike at some point in the future. I'd rather buy from an enthusiast who has kept the bike loved and in good order.
