The 'biting point' in the fazers' clutch with standard levers, which is within our range of adjustment is limited by the amount of free play in the lever. I.E. no play, instant bite. More play, a later bite & closer to the bars In the case of the OP if he loosens the cable the bite will be closer to the bars & hence a later bite. Adjustable levers will not alter the cable travel but because the levers can be set closer to the bars the stretch is less, the bite closer to the bars so most prefer it, including myself. Whenever I've replaced clutch cables I've always taken out just enough slack at the clutch end to allow a final adjustment (i.e. minor tweaking) at the lever to achieve a little free play. I am however, interested in learning in this case, how shortening the length of a cable can have a different effect depending upon which end is adjusted. Yeah, yeah, I most of you know this but sometimes ya gotta say it
Thanks for getting back to me Tommy. I read that through, but am a little worried that my ill informed twiddling may leave the clutch slightly engaged. That's why I was after a 1 - wind in / out the cable adjuster??? 2 - tighten / loosen the bottom end ?? 3 - check bite etc. 4 - if not correct, do this..... etc If I move the adjuster near the lever, will there be an effect elsewhere? Will I then have to compensate at the clutch end? I know it seems an easy job, reading your summary, but I don't want to damage anything. Thanks though

My clutch is the same, with a very wide span Can you tell me how to go about adjusting the span and the bite please?

In my opinion definitely, along with a set of cheap ebay hand guards for the coldest times of the year. In weather like we've got today they're useful, but when it hits 5 or under, the palms of your hands stay warm but the backs still freeze, hence the handguards. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Universal-7-8-22mm-Motorcycle-Bike-Handguards-Hand-Guards-Protectors-smoke-/301858464194?hash=item46482aa1c2:g:i8gAAOSwubRXNZJ7
Mr Self Destruct, old thread I know, but have you fitted those Universal handguards? Wondering, because if you have, I'd like too. Just got a new to me FZS1000, so looking to 'mod'. Got the heated grips, just looking at hand guard options Ian

Hi Noggy. You're spot on with your critique. It is a buyers market tbh. It's usually me thats done the mods and selling at a loss, so I can hold out for 'the one', knowing how it feels! I'll just plod around on my ZZR11 until then.... That black one does look pukka though, but there's a 30k miler 06' on Fleabay for £2250. Tried him at £2k, but no go. Figured the £500 I saved could go on some Ivanisingand maybe some springs etc

This is a beautiful bike, looks like brand new. Only trouble is the standard suspension I'm 17st so, nearly always have to mod suspension, but the suspension is about 'average' as standard anyways....

Hi all. Pleased to reintroduce myself. I'm in Plymouth and currently riding a 97' ZZR1100. Determined to get back into using the bike this year. Doing well so far, but the ZZR has reminded me of the bike I really want Originally joined the site in 2015, but been a lurker since. Didn't manage to afford a Gen 1 1000, but have been patiently waiting and biding my time and money... I'm now lucky enough to be in a buying position in May , so having looked through the site and it's links (again!), I've been reassured that it's still the bike for me. So,I'm in the market for an 'Ivanised' (F/M) Gen 1, with suspension mods too. I'll post in the wanted section asap.
