2nd Bike
« on: 05 March 2014, 03:07:52 pm »
So today the missus pretty much said I could look for a 2nd bike. Something budget, something that inevitably needs work, but equally in roadworthy nick enough to get me to work and back. I'm looking for something that I can work on, but then use should the Fazer need work. My budget is £500 (or there abouts).

So, open to suggestions. I found this FZR400 which I reckon could be haggled on a bit - not a lot of info on the link though http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231134049688?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

What other options do I have?

ZZR600 is a very cheap and capable bike, certainly better and just as economical as the FZR400.

Also, it doesn't need to be that style of bike. Open to suggestions

I had a gs500 for work, it was a hoot to ride! 65+mpg too! Fired up every time, and just kept going rain, hail or shine.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

What's you're trip to work like?

When I was getting a bike I was looking at the CB500 before deciding on a fazer. Seem to be reliable from everything I read. I've even been planning to keep my old 125 for little trips where I'm mostly filtering.

Love that Secca, 4 days left though and can imagine it being a little over budget come close of play.

Still looking for ideas.... :)

An FZS600?  They are cheap, easy to work on, and can last for years.

But then I guess you probably already knew that.....!

Yeah, and to be fair I'm not going to have the second bike the same as the first. I want something a bit different too.

Hi Hightower

I bought a cb500 ten years ago which was ten years old then with 10k miles on for £800.

Ten years on it has 56k on the clock lives outside in all weathers and  has passed every MOT and apart from consumables the only thing i have done to it is put a starter motor from ebay at £40 on it.

It gives me no less than 55mpg and is great fun to ride.

Of course it is not the best looking but is like a flea bitten old dog and i love to bits.

It may not be your cup of tea but if you want something cheap very reliable it may offer what you are looking for.

Regards

Arfa

My wife will probably be flogging her old ZZR 400 soon. Just like ZZR600 but sleeved down. In reasonable nick, 20 years old, still good fun, probably only worth a few hundred quid.

That might be a possibility. Where you at, and how soon?

Are you sure? As the old (joke?) eBay "bike for sale" advert had it "Apparently 'do what the foc you want!'" didn't mean "buy a new bike" ;)
