It'll be the very last of the FZS's if it's on a 06 plate!
The gen 1 is a cracking bike, it'll do anything you could ask of it, and it'll do it well. Just make sure the exup valve isn't seized. Everything else should work as intended same as any other Jap bike really.

We'll I've not got my gen 2 any more so it's useless to me. Unless there's anyone else that you'd prefer a swap with you can have it with pleasure.
It's off a 2010 bike, not sure if there were any changes at all.

Christ, I feel like a baby on here! The smell of mothballs and linament oil is getting overwhelming!
Started riding at 30, which means I've only been riding 13 years, however I've done probably in excess of 1/4 million miles in that time. More than most do on two wheels in a lifetime.
I always said I'd never own the same machine, car or bike more than once unless it's exceptional. I've had 3 boxeyes, covering about 100k on them overall. It just goes to show that they are indeed exceptional! Also had a gen 1, and gen 2 thou which were good machines. Also had a dozen other bikes which have never been anywhere close to the Fazer.
I've always said about the Fazer 600 that it's the only bike you'll ever need, but not the only bike you'll ever want.

It works quite well afaik. I certainly knew the difference when I put a stumpy tail tidy on, my back ended up soaked in bad weather!

Been fitting my own tyres for the last 12 months now (I go through a few) and I just use a small car plug in type compressor. It's never failed either. Cost me about a tenner and had it years.

I used my 600's for long distance stuff, only really changing the screen and bars. Bought the gen1 thinking that would be better. Erm, no! Seat was appauling in comparison. Sold it and bought a tiger 1050 for two up touring. The 600 Fazer is plenty good enough for it.

I used them on my thou, they were actually very good. Better than the ones on my tiger!

Someone drilled my lads airbox on his bandit 400 and it ran like a bag of nails (it was a shitter anyway).
I just put a couple of layers of gaffer tape over the holes and it ran better. That gaffer tape stayed on there for the two years he was on his restricted licence.
So if it all goes wrong, gaffer tape!

It's a good looking bike for a modern retro. It'd have to be one for my 'millionaires garage' though.

A couple of near misses there! I would say they were future organ donors, but there'd be nothing left but red jelly if they piled in at that speed in denim and reeboks!
And you wouldn't want to do that speed on the UK hard shoulder with all the shite that's on them. :P

Interesting thread!
I drive rather fast for a living, often at twice the speed limit! If I hadn't done the advanced course with regular refresher and Re-assessments I have no doubt I'd have been in a serious if not fatal smash by now! For those of you that haven't done an advanced driving/riding course, well I'd suggest you put down the books, stop reading other peoples nonsense, stow away your own views and have a go at it. It's not all about sticking to the rigid system, or 'you must use this line on a bend', these are just tools and skills that are offered to you to use. And in reality, it's not a 'driving course', it's really an 'observation course' with some road usage tactic thrown in for you to consider. Don't get too hung up on the discipline of it all.
My instructor nailed it for me when I completed the course and he said "I've always driven fast cars, but I'd never driven cars fast until I did the advanced"

I've been a user of maxxis diamonds for the last couple of years. They're a great tyre, feel a bit odd at first, but I've never had one let go. Get slightly better mileage than other s/t tyres too.
