Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Advice please re front brake issue on Gen 1
« on: 30 January 2013, 03:52:58 pm »
I was going to do the same, but didn't, now I can't work out if it's the cyl or the unknown pads fitted by previous owner (probably cheapo shit)
I have plnety of pressure with 1 or 2 finger braking, but it just feels they aren't biting hard enough, hopefully crap compound and will be better once replaced.
I think if it needed the R1 cylinder, it would have found it's way on the bike during the production run?

Since this, I have replaced my front lines with braided ones. I was dreading the bleeding process, but after a chat with a bike mechanic I know, he advised to do it in conjunction with some other jobs and let gravity do most of the work for you.

I used 2 empty glass coffee jars, 2 lengths of car washer tubing and just filled the cylinder up, bled the master to the top bolt on the brake lines and then left the bleed nipples at on caliper open at a time.

Within about 10-15 minutes you start to see traces of fluid appear which you can help by tapping the lines wherever you can get to them. The start pumping the lever, re-filling the reservoir etc.

Works a treat.

LOVELY, I like a lot. There's one round here, looks and sounds the nuts.

Had a couple of Aprilias myself, great bikes, don't believe all the horror stories, as solid as a Honda!

Stop all this torque talk!

I think I miss my Daytona more than my SP-1 !  :'(

I think it's the torque curve and where the triple starts to really pull at comparitively low revs...

LOL, nice comments, you CANNOT beat that triple induction roar and exhaust note with a nice can on though.
I guess it's character and looks versus better versatility.
God, if I ever have a windfall, I'm gonna have a big fcuking garage full of bikes!

I have a bit of a thing for the Triple. I had a lovely 955i Daytona but like a tit I sold it as I shat myself at the cost of doing the rear bearings - £150 in parts.

But the engine noise, flexibility, torque and economy were great. I keep looking for another. Probably won't feel as "comfortable" and "liveable" as I thought it was then, aftert the Fazer.

I recently fell in love with the Sprint ST 1050 in blue...

Jeesus, that looks like an FJR with that on, but effective I would imagine.

I have a slight double bubble on mine. Seems a bit better, but it is hard to find a perfect crouch when it's windy out!

Don't they give a funny coloured light out?
I inherited something similar in a Triumph Daytona, nice orangey-blue light from the front but scary to ride behind!

I think unless you go for a touring or vario type screen you are going to get windblast, I have always had fully faired bikes and it is the thing I am most struggling to adapt to.

Anything over about a ton and you don't half feel it.

I guess that's a good thing for your licence really, but so many empty roads, so many horse power!

 :)

He could search for MRA vario or Yamaha touring screens.

Good ideas, money is a bit tight for now to get more panels, was thinking of maybe having some vinyl applied, but it's probably end up looking shit, I had thought of something like some white or silver sections above the lights and maybe a thick stripe through the middle of the tank and tailpiece.

Ha ha. Yeah, what to invisible? Surely she's too old for theives now, oh no, actually, with that ignition switch you could probably nick one with a long fingernail  :eek

Ha ha, well if you don't ask, you don't get.

I don't mind the colour, but always get misty eyed over the blue and silver and grey ones.

I only bought the Fazer as it was cheap, I never meant to get sucked into messing about, doing it up etc, but I have and I realise that sportsbike looks aren't everything, for the real world and UK roads, it is a bloody brilliant bike.

I would like to make it look nicer, or maybe buy a later one with a black engine and different colour panels.... Hmmm.

Mine is a candy red bike, anyone want to swap their panels and tank etc?

I fancy blue or grey.

Just the diameter would help mate, but I will have a look at home and see if it fell out while I was working. I have a patch of concrete out the back I work on.

Hopefully once I wind it up a bit more as required, it won't deck out the tyre totally.

It is worth it, rides so much better, can't wait til the weekend to do my favourite 60 mile loop!   :)

I need to wind the bike up a bit more as I still have a lot of sag (only measured by eye as yet) but the back wheel is very nearly on the floor while bike is on the centrestand. If I go more, I am worrying about the bike bloody rolling away while on the stand!
I may change the dogbones to give it a bit more clearance and make the front-end bias a little less extreme.

Off topic, sort of, but regarding the Renthals, how did you decide where to line them up, I have the 758s too and was confused with the 0, 1,2,3,4,5 marks.

Originally had the 0 in the centre of the bolts and it just felt bloody weird, then I tried to have it vertical,  but as I got them 2nd hand, I dunno what the markings are meant to be for..?

I'm getting there by trial and error

I tried a BMW fiche for the dimensions but it's not featured.... bloody inefficient krauts  :lol

Rich, can you do me a favour next time you are doing something to the bike?
Can you pop out the bolt that clamps the top spring adjuster, like a tit I left mine loose and it's fallen out somewhere outside the house!

 :rolleyes

Will try and find it but would be great if you could size it up for me please fella...

I used some car type abrasive sponges I had left over from spraying a mudguard and just used the remains of a bucket of normal wash and wax used for bodywork.

Rougher sponge then worked down to the smoothest one. Came up a treat, and they really were shit.!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Aftermarket Clocks
« on: 07 January 2013, 04:40:33 pm »
Surely the replacement ones are advanced enough to let it run fine, it's not like a Honda or many other more modern bikes where you have the immobiliser wired through them is it?

How about some R1 clocks etc - probably the thing here is getting the rev counter in synch?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: BMW S1000RR shock conversion question

Yeah, I did actually, nearly dropped the original one as I cupped my hand under it.

I like the fact the BMW one has the rod shrouded too, so it's protected.

Bonus, like the R6 one, having high & low speed adjustment. I probably won't bother going for the Honda spring, I've bust my bike budget for the moment now, with new tyres and this shock, plus the chain is looking tired so that is gonna need doing soon.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Tyres.........do ya or dontcha?
« on: 07 January 2013, 03:52:00 pm »
None of the 2 local tyre shops do bikes. My local bike shop want £20 a tyre to loose wheels. The nearest supply and fit is 20 miles away.
8k from a set of tyres. . . . . . . .In my dreams
if you get that from a set of tyres perhaps you should sell your bike to someone who will ride it properly and get a batavus gogo ;)
