FZS600 Fazer / My bike is ticking...
« on: 07 October 2012, 04:07:44 pm »
Hi all, went to go out for a spin today (nice Sunday afternoons are rare) and as I started the bike there is a rather loud ticking coming from the engine. Now my first thought was maybe the cam-chain tensioner, but I would have expected this to come on gradually, not to all of a sudden appear. After that I suspected something lose in the front sprocket area so removed the cover to find everything fine. After that I figured I would ask you guys before doing any potential damage :( It sounded as if it got a bit better when it warmed a little, but not significantly.

FZS600 Fazer / Speedo Drive Sensor
« on: 10 August 2012, 02:27:34 pm »
Hi all, unfortunately my reliable Fazer has decided to no longer show me my speed. I tried looking through all the wiring and couldn't find anything wrong and all the cables are corrosion free, in the end its ended up at my local garage. They've gone through and found it needs a new Speedo Drive Sensor thingum which is quoted at £93  :'(

Obviously they suggested looking elsewhere to see if I could get hold of a second hand replacement so my question is has anyone had to try and find one and how much did it end up costing you?

Typically at the same time, my car has packed up (rear brake pipe exploded) so I have no transportation. I plan on trying to go to a breakers to see if they have anything and the usual fleabay searches but it seems to be quite a rare part. I don't suppose anyone here has one they wouldn't mind me purchasing?  :D

FZS600 Fazer / Seat
« on: 30 June 2012, 05:53:47 pm »
Does anyone have any recommendations for a more comfortable seat on the Fazer, or is it just me?

I find its fine for typical journeys, but longer ones that get to an hour and a half plus and my arse is about prepared to make me walk the rest of the journey...

Not sure if it is really relevant, but I have a '99 model so no front pre-load and I've had the rear on both the softest and hardest settings with no real difference.

FZS600 Fazer / Adjusting Foot Pegs
« on: 24 April 2012, 09:36:21 pm »
Are the foot pegs even adjustable? Tried looking but it doesn't seem like it. I've noticed that since I adjusted the rear suspension (went from softest to hardest - thank you previous owner  :rolleyes ) and now my left leg feels very cramped and squished. I do have quite large legs unfortunately...as well as stomach but thats a different matter entirely  :lol

FZS600 Fazer / Screen bolts
« on: 09 April 2012, 11:19:37 am »
Hi all,

Well for the second time in a week, my dad has decided he doesnt like my bike and tried to kill it...

Unfortunately, the second time he decided to use his car to reverse in to it  :'( Not too much damage as the house kind of broke its fall and only the wing mirror and front fairing took a beating. In the process though, the strain popped part of the screen off of the front fairing which sheered off several of the plastic bolts holding it on.

Does anyone have an idea on the specs of these bolts? I assume they are plastic to prevent the screen / fairing from shattering / snapping.

Thanks all :)

FZS600 Fazer / Won't Start :(
« on: 11 February 2012, 12:28:36 am »
Hey guys,

Basically I appear to be having issues with getting my bike to start ('99 FZS 600). It kicks over and has spluttered to life before the revs drop sharply and the engine cuts out. It appears that the cold has had an effect more than anything else but it seems like something else might be going on. Even during the day it takes an attempt or three before it will actually get going and even then I have to hold the revs up whilst the engine warms up before it will idle without stalling.

I've replaced the spark plugs last week, which was a nightmare in itself since whoever had the bike before me rounded off the thread for one of them (so a trip to a local mechanic was needed). The only other work recently is that I replaced the fuel tank this morning. Bike started up fine after id finished and it was snowing then so not exactly warm. I proceeded to go out in the evening (snow and ice had gone thankfully) and it did its usual take a couple of attempts before starting and I rode probably around 7 or 8 miles so im pretty damn sure I havent left the fuel tap off otherwise I never would have made it that far. When I attempted to ride home it just refused to get going as stated above and after a half hour or more ended up having to call on a friend to come pick me up and leave the bike locked up where it is.

Sorry for the essay but figured id give as much info as possible. All help greatly appreciated :)

FZS600 Fazer / Exhaust Can
« on: 18 October 2011, 04:39:35 pm »
Hi all,

Im interested in potentially changing the end can (silencer) on my '99 Fazer purely for a more impressive sound - the stock can, as most if not all of you are aware is pretty weak in terms of noise. I was hoping to get something with more bass and growl but have literally no idea where to start. Seems like a fair bit of information around in regards to the different manufacturers but its hard to gauge the exact noise from random YouTube videos.

Has anyone had any good experiences? Any advice? Also if anyone has had their end can replaced, how much did it cost?

Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / Knocking
« on: 13 October 2011, 10:02:37 am »
Hi there all - im very new to the world of motorcycling so forgive dumb questions ;)

Ive had my Fazer for about 2-3 weeks now (1st bike ever, passed my test about a week before I got the bike) and ive noticed a sort of knocking on the bike - it happens when pulling away slowly in 1st/2nd then when cruising in the other gears around 30-45mph. I can mostly feel it when cruising, as opposed to hearing it, on the left side foot peg (gear / chain side)

It seems to go away if I pull in the clutch or back off on the power and assume that I just dont notice it at higher speeds due to wind noise and that the chain/wheel is actually moving faster (kinda obvious :P)

I did check the chain tension and it seemed a little slack so tightened it (all based on the manual) but the problem still exists (if it is in fact a problem). It seems out of place but I dont know if this is in fact normal operation due to my limited experience.

I did notice a topic on here from someone else who had a similar problem and which ended up being fixed by replacing the chain and sprocket but im uncertain if this the exact same fault or if it could be something else. Plus any advice on mechanics in the Bristol area would be handy :)

Thanks for any replies
