Ivanised or not
« on: 07 July 2015, 01:14:13 pm »
Bought my first fazer 1000 last april 2014, never ridden a fazer before so had no idea of what to expect.
My mate has a same age fazer 1000 with 14k on the clock mine has 24k the only other diference is mines got a beowulf can on it and his is factory fitted, he had an opportunity to ride my bike at weekend and is reporting how much quicker mine is and he says its noticable big time. Could it be that something is wrong with his ie carbs not ballanced correctly or could i without knowing have bought a bike that has been ivanised. Is there a way of physically telling on the bike.

Thanks

F

Mikes info....

Quickest way to check is to remove one of the carb tops (#2 is easiest) and then take out the throttle slide and inspect the needle.

If it has SD-129 or SD-130 stamped around the top, it's a standard original needle.

Ivan's needles have 5 different taper angles ground into them, two of which are obvious to the naked eye.

There's a simpler way to tell. I found out after fitting my Ivan's kit that if you take it to just 3500 rpm in second and whack the throttle open, the front will start lifting at 4000....

Stock, it never used to do that!

Hi Ayjay
Bikes in for a respray at the moment my ocd could not cope with the few minor scratchs, but i will try that when i get it back its like lightening in 2nd and when you open it up you have to hold on like your on a wild horse it just wants to go,  going to have to ride my mates also to see this big difference he is talking about.

Another option is your mates bike is a French import,  these were restricted to 100 BHP.

Apart from the carb mods a bit of work goes into making the bike breathe better. Dead easy to find out. Take off tank and get you mouth really close to the airbox, shout Ivan and listen for the echo. If you hear Ivan,Ivan. Ivan, Iva, Iv, I it it means the mods have been done and your bike is Ivanised.

Dont ask me how you find out if yours has had a full monty.

Otherwise you could just ask Mike.

It's possibly easier to tell if the bike has had the Full Monty (jet kit plus airbox / intake stub mods) as you just need to remove the airbox lid to see if the intake snorkel has been cut away. The slip-on kit just involves carb mods so the only way to tell is by checking the carbs as per the info posted by brooker81.

Cheers for the replies, sorry bobdog i have a red one 52 plate year 2001 manufacture. The restricted to 100bhp is an interesting one and probably makes more sense, how could you tell its been restricted?

I think the restriction is done via inserts in the carbs. When I had my bike Ivanised by Mike I recall him saying that he had just worked on a bike and discovered that it was a restricted one, and that he had removed the inserts from the carbs, so the guy who didn't realise it was restricted ended up gaining ~34 BHP from Mikes work and was more than chuffed.

Unscrew the black plastic top off the carb, if there is a black mushroom shaped plastic stopper take it out and put the top back on the carb.....extra 25 bhp instantly
