I've practically sold it. On monday its new owner would come back with the money.

I am thinking of doing a quick 600km trip to my parents town just to see her, have a last ride and say goodbye... :\

fzs1000's ones are too long and awkward though

To get back to the main topic, the bar is 240mm between hole centres. I have an alluminium one on my bike that is the same length but not sure which Yamaha model it came from.

TRX's and Thunderace's are that lenght. I have one for sale by the way  :smokin

I was going by the Haynes manual, you trying to say they lied to me about this?

I thought Haynes was gospel and no one ever questioned it,
Like in order to change the rear wheel spindle the front fairing, headlight unit and carburettors must first be removed!

Everyone does that, right? I mean that's why it's £400 to change a rear tyre!

Apologies, I'd never questioned the history I'd read!

Haynes also has a wrong schematic picture for the fazer forks, from a different bike. Worse: the fork schematic of the 2000 Yamaha supplemetary manual misses a part.
The only place to find right a 2000- fazer fork is the parts catalogue  :rolleyes

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Sorting out forks
« on: 27 September 2013, 11:25:16 am »
The problem is that more preload will not make it exactly stiffer: the forks will have more travel when breaking and hitting bumps, but at the expense of having less travel when extending (when the wheel goes over a hole for example). As Anzacinexile said if springs were linear more preload would just change ride height. But as the springs are dual rate you will have less soft travel rate and more stiff travel the more you add preload. I do not know if I am explaining it well sorry.

Use 20 oil. There is little difference between 10 and 15, specially if they are from different brand they could be almost the same real viscosity.

I still think oem springs are decent, the problem is the lack of damping makes them seem too soft, and the dual rate is too soft and later too hard trying to mask that. My ace's springs are soft and the bike is 229kg and 86 myself, and they work perfectly. Maybe somebody changed them? I have to investigate it.

Yes try that first. On winter you will notice how dampened the fork will become, not good for big bumps though. On summer it will thin a lot: the higher the grade the more temperature sensitive it becomes. Having preload adjusters at max I'd go for stiffer springs but it will a pain as you said Serbian roads are bumpy? The solution would be mate kebab's emulators.

Use SAE20 fork oil and add a bit of preload, 1cm or so. Do not use gear oil, I have ridden a bike with that and it sucks. Fazers have almost no low speed compression damping. I have for sale a couple of very stiff springs but they will be too hard for your weight on the road, and 2002 preload adjusters and spacers for '98 bikes.

No, they haven't. I think even the swing arm is steel. They weigh almost as much as Aces because of it.

From magazines:
Cats have about 10hp more than fazer at dyno. Add some horses at high speed. But despite yamaha said, cats are about 10kg heavier than fazers.

I just was looking at this right now. Check the "first thing to do" for cats :lol . I am glad I went to the Fazer/Ace way! :

La gente este muy loca!    :)
Exam passed. That's from a silly disco song, isn't it? :)

send in the warships. we have had enough of those greasy gringos, all they do is moan.
muchus grasus penis, thanks a lot cock,

I'm lost now. Who are you calling the greasy gringos? Spaniards or British?
"Gringos" is how mexicans call yankees. Spaniards call North European people "guiris", specially when they are drunk or/and sunburnt ;)

Earache, it seems that everybody hates Barcelona police (Mossos d'Esquadra). They seem worse than the Guardia Civil that is at most of the rest od Spain. I am even afraid of going there with my new bike (old Madrid plate).

Lew600, once you get used to our roads I am pretty sure you will got less fines.

I've been always riding fast and doing a lot of filtering, forbidden turns, overtakes and more. But I've been considered a good driver by the DGT: I started with 12 points and now I have 15 (I could even "sell" some, they are highly priced :evil ).

Enjoy the country.

Which city it was?

I'm from Spain and I've never been fined for filtering, and only once for speeding  :woot . Filtering is a grey area that depends on how hard the city's council tries to get money, if it happens that somebody there hates or likes bikes and how dangerous the action seemed to the police. It is not a good idea to filter on a solid line anyway.

In cities like Madrid and Granada you have advanced motorcycle stoplines. I think that nobody is going to fine you if you filter to reach them if the cars are fully stopped and you do it slowly even if you do not leave the 1'5m.

Parking on the sidewalk is allowed in some cities and forbidden in others, so when you travel it seems you have to study each council's local rules. Radar where the speed sign changes are increasing. It is a theft. They mostly control speeding at the sorrounding of towns or at the end of descents. Never where the traffic is very light -no matter the accidents, according to the former chief's words-. The 50% discount is very embarrasing and for many law experts it is considered actually illegal.

Didn't your bike had an excessive long gearing? Told you it was better to have a 14t sprocket  :evil

67
The springs are already pretty short, specially those from the adjustable preload models. I read somewhere it is advisable they compress less than half its length, if you cut them they will be at their limit.

Moreover, if you end up with 0.95/1.4 springs they will be too hard, and the last part of their travel could be even harder than that as very compressed springs increase their rate quite randomly towards the end.

68
I would have been very interested, but I have taken an easier way and bought a bike with cartridge forks. It is remarkable how firm its compression damping is when braking hard, and how soft it is when hitting a bump.

Modifying the Fazer with higher viscosity oil (SAE 20) and linear springs (1 kg/mm) do help for spirited riding but reduce comfort and still feels springy. Still the Ace feels much firmer when braking even when it has just SAE 5 oil and 0.80 kg/mm springs and it is a heavier bike (fazer standard dual rate springs are 0.75/1.4!)

If those emulators do really work like cartridges, they are a must. My modding parts are for sale by the way.

I'm sorry, I did not remove them. I didn't find the original screws.

I have just updated prices and shipping costs. Make your offers as you like too. :)

After removing the items it took a ride as standard again except for firmer SAE20 fork oil. Much worse, springy and low like a rocking chair. After riding for a while a cartridge fork bike I realize Fazers do not only need my mods but Kebab19's compression damping mods indeed. Jack up kits are a must being so cheap.

Awful exhaust note now. Ace's standard can and Fazer's MIVV can with its baffle in it are quiet too but their sound is much nicer.

I cannot compete anymore though, I stopped being a foccer about a month ago. That was one of the reasons I moved to a sportier bike. I have to add that my bike was jacked up, so more credit to me  8) , and had improved suspension (and I am selling those bits at the "For sale" section by the way :rolleyes )
If you are going to lean a lot, do not fit crash bobbins. They touch the floor at the same time the pegs do. I had the centrestand removed too, and an oval can fitted.

Be careful mate.

I changed to 14t and 170 rear tyre -larger diameter, a tad longer gearing-. Faster acceleration, but had to fit a gear indicator as they were so close it could be confusing. The effective top speed remained the same, as I barely could find straights long enough to pass 220km/h with the standard gearing without the risk of being photographed. The mileage seemed to remain the same.
