For Sale & Wanted / Boardman Tk/20 push bike for sale.
« on: 15 September 2012, 12:54:08 am »
I don't know if there are any cycling enthusiasts amongst us, but if so then I have something rather special for sale. The bike is a Brand new and unused limited edition Boardman Tk/20, one of only 92 made worldwide. The bike will be numbered and hand signed by Chris Boardman who will also write a dedication on it to whoever I ask him to.

Obviously this is a specialist bit of kit, and will appeal to either a collector or a dedicated cyclist. The list price (should you still be able to obtain one) is £999.99 but I'm open to offers that represent a considerable saving on that.  Keen cyclists can click on the link below for pic's and more info.

General / Summer riding fix
« on: 21 August 2012, 12:19:51 pm »
My Favourite internet video of the moment. :)

Two German bikers riding through the twisty roads of Kesselberg Bavaria. Filmed from a Suzuki B-King. The sun is shining, the roads are smooth and grippy, and the soundtrack is a perfectly chosen chill out tune. I think watching this is the antidote to all the rain we've had this summer.

enjoy riding

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS Chain noise
« on: 10 August 2012, 10:13:03 am »
Is there a cure for it? The chain is in good condition and correctly lubed/adjusted but I still hear it rustle more than on other bikes I've owned.  I was wondering what effect going one tooth up on the rear sprocket might have? Or is the answer simply 'Earplugs'?  :lol

For Sale & Wanted / 2001 Gen 1 Fazer 1000 for sale.
« on: 30 July 2012, 09:42:40 am »

I may have to sell my Fazer so I'm listing it here as open to offers for it.  It's had  one previous owner to me and has been very well looked after by him with oil changed every 3k miles.  35k miles Summer use only, which were accrued in yearly 3k mile European tours, the bike was then serviced and put away in a heated garage until the following year.

There are small marks of use here and there as is to be expected but the bike looks very good for its age. Stock apart from a blue flame can, genuine Yamaha crash bungs and a belly pan, the bike rides A1. It's due a front tyre but otherwise good to go. Taxed till October (I think) and MOT'd until April or May next year. Sorry to be so vague but I can find out the exact details for interested parties.

I really don't want to part with this bike, but if I have to I thought it best to offer it here before ebay. PM and make me an offer if you are able to buy it cash.

Preston area.

Thanks

Having a garage clearout and found my Gen 1 FZS 1000 double bubble screen. It's in good nick - not full of scratches if anyone's interested.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / R1 shift mod.
« on: 19 July 2012, 06:22:12 pm »
I've just done the R1 shift mod to my gen1 and the difference is noticeable.  The lever is slightly firmer to operate and the gears now snick into place more positively so that's all well and good.  What is lost however, is the sense of fluidity to the change, it's now 'snick snick snick' whereas before I wasn't consciously aware of any mechanical action.  Admittedly I've only just fitted it and ridden some 20 odd miles to evaluate it but that's my first impression.  Everything is adjusted up correctly and all works hunky dory so I just wondered are there any different lengths of R1 shift arms to play with?

For me the perfect gearchange compromise possibly lies somewhere in between the length of the original shift arm and the R1 item that I have just fitted.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Who fits Ivan kits in addition to Mike?
« on: 02 June 2012, 08:36:09 pm »
I've spoken to Mike about Ivanising my FZS1000 but it's not looking like he can do it until next year. Does anyone else fit them?  I'm in the North west by the way but don't mind travelling a little if necessary.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / New owner 2001 FZS1000
« on: 31 May 2012, 09:05:42 am »
Hello all.

I'm using my first post to seek advice. :)

I recently acquired a 2001 Fazer 1000 which has done 34k miles. The bike is a one owner machine and is in very good condition. The previous owner has certainly looked after it, and the 34k mileage was accrued 2 weeks each summer on 3k mile European holidays, which I know to be true.

The service history is stamped up for the first 16k or so then the owner said he did it himself after that. Having asked what he meant by that he replied that oil was changed (fully synthetic) once a year - so every 3k miles, chain and sprockets air and oil filters etc all done by him. I took it from that to mean the valve clearances haven't been checked in this time.  The bike runs well however, with no untoward noises or rattles etc.

So on to my question.  I've ridden the bike for the last month or so and in that time have got a feel for it. I'm not a fast rider so for me the handling is still adequate, but I do suffer from a lot of high frequency vibration through the handlebars at 4-5k revs, so much so in fact that my hands get pins and needles after just 30 odd miles at around 80mph.  I'm sure there are a number of possibilities for this, not least the carbs may need balancing, but I've been shocked by the cost of a full service running at around £500.00  The gearbox is also very clattery when compared to my 1200 Suzuki Bandit.

Otherwise the bike is in such good condition I thought of it as a keeper, but now I'm unsure if spending £500 on a service for an eleven year old bike is wise? What do you guys think my options are?
